It was outside so the smell dissipated, they had no visual evidence of anything inside the house or around the property, and they couldnt speak with anyone, and youre right about marijuana being less of a deal than 10-20 years ago, so they werent going to bother wasting their time.

When I went out to AZ earlier this year, I brought an oz with me and EVERYONE was tripping on me trying to tell me how risky it is going anywhere with weed.

@intecrisis yes its illegal in public, unless u smoke and ride ur bike inside ur private property where no one can see you. But otherwise its the same thing as if u were drinking a bottle of vodka while riding your bike in the park or on the beach or w/e...

Basically those are the only places you can't smoke MEDICAL MARIJUANA per California State Law. Now when prop 19 passes it could be a different story.

Too bad you guys are wrong. I personally have medicated at the State Capitol. CHP just gave me a talking to and even gave me my pipe back. Hell I smoked a joint in front of the federal court house and put it on youtube.

As a patient myself, I can say that this is a gray area. According to the actual text in the written law SB420, I can't smoke "in no smoking zones, within 1000 feet of a school or youth center except in private residences; on school buses, in a motor vehicle that is being operated, or while operating a boat. Patients are advised to be discreet or consume oral preparations in public." I've smoked in public places, but I've always been discreet. I don't flaunt it.

What about the clinics that have smoke lounges, or the Hash bar in Venice? I've smoked in them as casual as can be, although I'm aware that somehow its probably 100% illegal, but what's the grey area on that one?
