Thank you for posting this series. Quite a task. I've not seen it since first aired. A ghastly history. Politics and religion, the curse of humanity. Monotheism really seems to be of something Evil if one looks at its fruits.
@globalman - You go from bad to worse, hypocrite. Hindus are not monotheists, you ignoramus. The reasons for the massacres were more political than religious and much was down to the arrogance of agnostic Left Winger, the fame-seeking Lord Mountbatten. But let us not forget that your atheist friends were the worst mass-murderers in history: Stalin, Mao and Pol pot mass-murdered many more innocents than did the Indians. There are no more evil fruits than those of atheism.
The final is very moving and beautiful. It's very dramatic how Hari Kumar is filmed writing and the scene becomes a photo like the others, part of the history of India.
It's monstrous how some of the most heinous acts were committed in the name of religion. The English lady sleeps on the train and Peabody sits there drinking tea, oblivious to the suffering of wounded. Sarah and Guy seem to be the only British with real empathy for the Indians.
@mannixisle - This series is a great one but only a fool bases his understanding of the British raj in India only on one film series. The story is far more complex and interesting than your facile analysis allows. Most of the massacres were committed in the name of politics, not religion and let us not forget that the worst mass-murderers in history were atheists: Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot for starters.
Thank you for a wonderful experience.
