First I would like to say nice video, but has anyone else noticed that all of the video editing tutorials is being narrated by a guy with a hot accent? Yeah, no? Just me? :) hahaha but seriously - I have not seen a single video editing tutorial without hot accent narrator :P

Forgot they were the first NLE out. Everything else came after. They have a 30 day trial if any wants to try it. works on Mac or PC and you can bounce the project around between the 2 platforms.

Avid was used to edit Transformers, Spiderman, The Wrestlers, 2012, and a lot more movies that are out. Not to mention many of the big networks used to cut for tv shows. They have a youtube channel. If you looking to get into the business then Avid and FCP is the way to go.

LOL you really don't know what you are talking about. Those are 2 different programs designed to do 2 different things. After Effects is a EFFECTS program. Avid is a editing software like Adobe Premiere. FCP, Sony Vegas. No one edits a full movie on AE, you can but you know how long that would take. Read up and learn

I am currently teaching myself how to use all the main industry programs. At the moment I am learning 3ds Max, Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and Sony Vegas.

I know Vegas completely, really good program, but I understand it is not the top of the range. Both Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro are rated higher from what I know.

However, I have only just heard of Avid, and don't quite know what it is? Is it used throughout hollywood? I always assumed final cut pro was?

Yes Avid is the standard of Hollywood and the BBC while FCP is more indie films and low to mid range production companies because of its ease of use and cheaper price tag.

Both are very close to each other performance wise but from my experience and experts I've spoken to, Avid is difficult to master but ultimately more powerful(though marginal to FCP).

Although Avid is expensive the student discount is cheaper than FCP! Absolute steal if you are a student

Thanks for the info mate. Obviously as Avid is an editor, what is the industry standard compositor? For basic visual post production I would assume it is After Effects, and obviously that has huge integration with 3d software such as 3ds max.

Is AE and 3D Max the standard for actual visual effects and 3d work?

Avid is the most commonly used film editor for theatrical movies. So I'm guessing Avid is way better.

Yeah Avid is now an industry standard at many production companies. I just listened to an interview with the girl who has done movies like austen powers, how to lose a guy in ten days, and many more. She uses avid.

dont buy this program!!!!! it blows!!!! if you are going to buy a piece of editing software, wait a couple months. Adobe is coming out with a new program that blows avid and final cut pro out of the water. If you need one now, Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere Pro is the way to go.

Yes, but Avid is also a very powerful editing system. There is a reason why the industry has adopted Avid as their standard system for TV editing. It is geared for the industry professional, not the hobbyist.

Thanks for posting stuff like this, I want to learn better editing. All I have right now is Roxio 8, camera defaulted to quicktime so Windows Movie Maker doesn't accept the vids. I'll be checking out tour stuff, may sub to you, let me know your thoughts. 3c
