Wow. That looks nothing like Douglas Sills! It sounds like him, but I would have no idea! He looks totally different than he does in "Little Shop" and "Scarlet Pimpernel"!
Hey, Emily and Haley here. We love to sing! We are a fan of The Who, The Beatles, as well as more contemporary music. Please check out our channel and videos, comment, and subscribe! Thanks!
The best You Tube video of this song is from the Rio de Janiero production. It's in Portuguese, but the singing and orchestra in this fellow's parody is terrific. Plus, the parody is appropriately funny!
I tried to post the URL, but it bounced the post, so look up:
Partly because Eleanor Parker (her other song -- "No Way To Stop It" was cut too) was not a singer, and also because Robert Wise wanted a song for Maria to sing on the way to the Von Trapp villa to open up the story for the screen. "An Ordinary Couple" was also cut and replaced with "Something Good" for some unexplicable reason.
I play Max Detweiler in my High School's production coming up in a few months, and he changed the lyrics a bit. Max's part is the whole "In all the famous love affairs", and Elsa Schraeder pops in with "No little shack does he share with me." and from there, they switch back and forth. Otherwise, Mr. Sills is excelent.
yeahh mr sills does this because he does not have another person to duet with. if he had someone else to sing with, im sure she would take elsa's part and he would do max's part.
The Captain is on stage during the song, but Max and Elsa sing it. As it appears in the play, the song is done tongue-in-cheek, but it also serves as a foreshadowing that the Captain and Elsa's romance will not survive.
For some reason, Doug reminds me of David Thewlis as Remus in this video. Only better. He would've been good for the movie, he's more how I imagined Remus. Thanks for putting this up!
I had the honor of seeing a true prodigy of musical theater perform this.

An abbreviated duet sung (or should I say "talked") solo.
Nope.

Great number. Omitted from the movie, maybe because the actors weren't singers.
Good to see Britain has returned this song to the West End production plus 'No Way to Stop it'. Nice work, Douglas Sills.
