  • love the way emma smiles

  • I love harriet she looks like taylor swift and may I ask what is the tunes name of the first dance

  • I love knightley <3 I just clapped my hands when he asked her to dance harriet <3

  • love way she has fun with frank

  • Traditional European dances are so wonderful... I had the opportunity to participate in one when I visited France on foreign exchange and it was really fun, even though I had no idea how it went. :)

  • I wonder when they learn these dances.... Is it part of school curriculum? because they are so many of them, i would have trouble remembering the steps to one of the pretty dances.

  • @XxForTheKillerIsMexX I assume one was taught to dance from early childhood or in adolescence. Back in these days people learnt to dance in a variety of ways; it was accustomed to know these things when attending social gatherings. It was how they socialised. Today we don't which can be said, is a pity if you ask me.

  • haha hourray to Wikipedia!

  • this is one of the few books I haven't yet read and this is so suspenseful for me - I want the two of them togetherr...

  • mmmm this looks like fun, this dance

  • is she too much or WHAT... :) love her

  • I've always wondered, how do they know what to dance next? How do they know what dance move follows next?

  • the third dance is so pretty ! the way they hold hands make them look like swans

  • Emma reminds me of Blair Waldorf. I know.... I shoundn't compare these two but still... I can't help it :)

  • It was really a nice dance. So sweet.... as their soulds bounced together! Beautiful couple :)

  • Mr Knightly, reaaaaly a Knight! Adore him!!!

  • Every good love story is accompanied with a dance scene where the two in love realize they are in love ;)

  • She really must have been completely blind that she didn't realize her feeling flustered and blushing was because she is in love with Mr. Knightley. She didn't look that way with Frank at all while they were dancing or in any scene with Frank.

  • I love how Knightley looks at Emma's lips for just a second while they're dancing like he's wondering about kissing her at 6:27...

  • omg i just realised the dance scene is also in clueless when josh (knightly) asks tai (harriet) to dance!!

  • Always liked Mr. Knightly; such a great guy!! Hes only #2 on My Austin men list; Federick is #1!! :) If you've watched him from the beginning; you would have noticed every time he says; "Dear Emma"; he ALWAYS says it THAT way!! I like that when they dance its a romantic dance. OMG why didn't she realize it there; u can tell shes flustered around him; and is almost blushing. There you go; if thats doesn't prove he is Mr. Dixon I dont know what does!!

  • I love how relieved he seems at 3:57 ...

I wonder what secret he thought her to mean ;)

  • what is the name of that playing song? im guessing its a traditional dance song and its beautiful...

  • i love how in those olden times women wore decent clothes and were much more respected and cared for...

  • Frank is so so so handsome. =) Loving the chemistry between Knightley and Emma.

  • Is it just me or do you not get a warm fuzzy kind of feeling watching them dance? You can tell she is taken aback how she feels dancing with him and she quite enjoys it. I love how they stare into each other's eyes and when he is so close to her he looks as if he wants to kiss her right there. So sweet.

  • @ 2:29 Go Knightley, GO!

  • LOL Poor Mr. E! Can't seem to find a dancing partner...

  • What is this sort of dance called?

  • His face when she says, "Your secret is out" is absolute perfection. He thinks she's found out he loves her. I love this version!!

  • Oh my goodness, I adore how Frank dismounts from his horse at 8:40. Quite the gymnast he is.

  • @twilighter3000

Haha. I never noticed before. I had to go back and watch it again. Yeah that was something else, lol.

  • Mrs. Elton and Mr. Elton disliked this video :P

  • Sweet and funny moment- Knightley comes to Harriet's rescue and then he has to pull her back from rushing out to the dance floor at the wrong time. "whoa"! LOL

  • this is my favourite adaptation, particularly because they get the spirited and emotional underlay of the ball - the scene where elton slights harriet smith is perfect! and knightley swooping in and being a true gentleman. :)

  • so magical... :)

  • such great actors!!!

  • Favorite part is how you see him look at Emma and realizes how upset she feels over no one dancing with Harriet, so he basically does it for the both of them.

  • I love Emma's dress!! and the music, so romantic!

  • Does anyone know the song they danced too? It's so beautiful!

  • @NowBaptized NVM I got it : )

  • 2 years later and i still come back <333

  • @xelmolavenderx I think it was just the part of good education, to know basic dances. this is one more thing I miss nowadays, when you go to the party most of the people moves like a gigant worms, without any charm and routine.

  • the dance was magical

  • @tierraecho I SO agree!! It was so lovely and really well done!

  • gosh Harriet's just SO pretty

  • Best Emma couple so far..

  • what happened to harriet´s friend after they where robbed?

  • I love their dance, particularly the music they danced to...

  • Notice how Emma stops giggling after she began dancing with Mr Knightley. With Frank she was always laughing, but with Mr Knightley, it is as if she realised that this not a mere dance with a mere friend! Something more, something very, very serious... indeed!

  • @RushTheSilver hum I don't agree, I think it's mostly because the dance is calm, whereas the other were village dances, she still laughs a lot during all the dance while everybody is being more serious

  • Who the HELL are the five people who disliked this video?

  • I love this moment in 3:55, when he thinks, that Emma found out about his attachment to her.

I love this version of Emma!

  • harriet should keep her damn pants on. third time? -_-

  • i'm very curious as to how the folks all know the particular steps of each dance, when to change partners, where to step etc...do their mums teach them or something?

  • @sgsegar

you will notice they are only doing about five different things over and over again; the way the scene was shot kind of disguised it, but there it is.

A beautiful scene, a fantastic rendition of an amazing classing.

  • seriously? i want a ball where i can dance like that

  • @XxLevynxX So much better than school dances...

  • anyone know the name of the song Emma plays aruond 7:30 to 7:50?

  • omg i would feel like an idiot dooing those dances :/ but if you think about it, our dances today are even stupider so.

  • i love this dance! what is the name of this dance? i've seen in it all adaptations of pride and prejudice and on some period dramas before.

  • I wish my man of my dreams would save me

    Like tha ;D

  • emma's and knightley's dance was so beautiful! love the background music!

  • emma's daydream about mr. churchill rescuing harriet is hilarious.

  • you can see Mr. Knightley's suspicions of Frank Churchill and Jane at 3.34-3.44. genius idea to put those subtle hints in the movie. BBC rocks!

  • I've lost three hours of sleep on a school night to Emma, and I don't regret it one bit. <3

  • @herheartbeatfaster same, same

  • So, i guess that's where the storyline from "Clueless" came from... silly me, how come i never realized that before? ...

  • I love the little head jerk Mr. Knightly does at 3:13 to let Harriette know which way they are about to go. I also love the jealous way he's watching Frank...and his laugh at 4:18...and the long stare he gives Emma when she says she'll dance with him...and the way he says "Dear Emma."...and pretty much everything else about him as well =)

  • Comment removed

  • @rcbpiccolo I know; u can tell hes jealous. Mr. Knightly is SOO sweet and a gentlemen. Shows who is good man and whos not; with the whole Harriet situation.

  • 2:46 and the award goes to Mr Knightley for being the nicest, kindest, amazing (and any other synonyms for the word perfect and kind) man in the whole world!!!

  • Your secret is out! Ouch, he thinks she found aboout his love!!!

  • its sooooo sweet when knightly dances with harriet :) and it looks like such a fun dance, and of course we save the most romantic dance for knightly and emma and how romantic it is the way theyre looking at each other :)

  • Mrs. Weston knows it all the time...Knightley's secret.

  • Mr. Knightley is an all around great guy. he is so sweet to everyone and calls Emma out when she is in the wrong.

Also... i love it when they dance I had to play it over and over again! it is so sweet! they're so adorable

  • pausing this to let it load....the beginning frame is soooo funny!

  • Isn't the dance that Knightly and Emma dance together the same that Edmund and Fanny danced when JLM was Edmund in Mansfield park?????

  • At 3:54.. Mr. Knightley's face.. priceless!! Like he has been caught!! All the more important coz he does hold a secret... :-)

  • I love the dance; one of the most romantic moments in any movie I've ever seen. Why hasn't the soundtrack been released? And why is Mr Elton looking so sweaty?!

  • I love Mrs. Weston's face at 2:06 after Elton says that he won't dance with Harriet. she is thinking, what a jerk! too high to dance with her!

  • Harriet's hair is so incredibly horrendous and flattering

  • Knightley is amazing!

  • my favorite adaptation of Emma, Thank you cat4fab for posting it.

  • i love mr eltons envious looks, what a stupid dude!

  • remarkable actors

  • That dance between Emma and Mr. Knightley was so magical and romantic...two people so in tune with each other. :-)

The music for their dance is a slower version of the theme, isn't it?

  • I love this adaptation,

it's the first time Emma has really been brought to life.

  • Mr. Knightley to the rescue! Why can't there be more Mr. Knightley's today? hmmmm<3

  • @xmindframesafetyx I know. What I wouldn't give to have someone like Mr.Knightly. ^ ^ Not enough of him today.

  • @Shinozka How fervently I agree with you. JLM is not bad himself, he makes a good Mr. Knightley <3

  • I love the dancing part between Emma and Knightley. More importantly, I love the music they picked.. It's really good! But.. ya.. Randomn ass piano in the middle... Pretty confusing.. :P

  • @BeeVan19 I loved the music, too. I think it's because it's more of a slower dance then the rest so it's more romantic.

  • I have added this part to my favorites so I could quit searching for it, I Love Mr. Knightley saving Miss Smith and I LOVE LOVE the dance Emma and he share... Oh my.

  • How utterly beautiful Knightley and Emma's dance was.. it gave me chills but in a good way.. *sighing deeply as I type*... Simply wonderful.. You can see the love blossoming.. :0)x

  • Every other adaption completely skips over the importance of Emma and Mr. Knightley dancing. This adaption does an amazing job. thanks for uploading!

  • OMG! That song and that dance they picked for Emma and Knightly to dance to was PERFECT! You could really see them falling in love with each other! :D Granted, the piano came out of nowhere, since there's no piano in that room, but what the hey. Still perfect.

  • What the hell happened to the girl that was walking with Harriet?!

  • @HangTheDJ16 I know, really! Just forget about the poor little side character. No one cares what happens to *her*!

  • I love that, because its a country dance, they are way more relaxed than in a lot of the period films. they had both kinds of dancing at these country balls: the refined kind that you usually see, and, of course, this

  • Just danced the Ship's Cook this evening. A very fun and lively English dance.

  • I love how mr. Knightley looks all exited, happy an nervous. He can barely smile!

Who wouldn't want to have that effect on a man like him!

    Lucky Emma.

  • I wonder if Mrs Elton's problem with Emma stems from the insecurity bred from the fact that her husband was once extremely enamoured of Emma. And still might be for all she knows.

  • god!my heart hurts every time I see emma n knighley's dance

  • i wish they would just get together =) they are so prefect for each other

  • The Last dance by Samuel Sim, very beautiful music indeed...

  • Emma and Knightly look so happy dancing together.

  • I adore the way Mrs. Weston looks at Mr. Elton after he refuses to dance with Harriet. Simply perfect!

  • a love triangle, emma good luck

  • Mr Elton you're so horrible! @ 1.51

  • Loved the chemistry between Emma and Mr Knightley when they danced! Wonderful!

  • Beautiful dance. Simple and elegant. Absolutely charming!

  • best emma's cast ever

  • Not sure about best cast comment. I will need to rewatch others. But most definitely, remarkable cast. Bravo!

  • Ha ha! Love the look on his face when he's clapping after the dance. Kind of like "Get yourself together now Knightley"

    So flustered! So cute!

  • this dance looks like a lot fun.

  • I would like to be able to attend a ball in that era for once in my life. Their dance choreography is so childlike, it's lovely. *wistful sigh*

  • Actually, I think JASNA (Jane Austen Society of North America) throws balls every year or something where you can dance like this!

  • i wish i was born at that time too

  • They have them in Bath every autumn, so if you ever come to England, you should go :)

  • @mrstilney

could you tell me where it is?

  • @rainflorest Do you mean Bath? It's in the south-west and the festival takes place for a whole week througout Bath. Try googling Jane Austen Bath festival :)

  • This is as of now, my favorite version!!

  • Beautiful dancing scene!

  • oh i love the music in this!

  • mrs.weston's face at 2:05 LOL

  • I love how you can see the changes in the character's emotions when Emma and Mr. Knightley dance. the shift in where they are in their relationship and the realisation of "the something more". :) i love this version the best.

  • Kudos to the actors and actresses. Very proficient in their art.

  • @FaustianDreams I know! You can tell how much she cares for him/loves him as she plays the piano and smiles. :) <3

  • I love how when Mr. Knightley asks Harriet to dance, she wants to jump right in and he has to hold her back to wait for the right timing. haha. :)

  • It's little details like that that mark the ingenious quality in the directorship.

  • i've watched the dance scene 5 times it's so wonderful! i think it's my favorite ever in an austen adaptation, there's just so much conveyed by the two of them. made up for the brother/sister line being cut out

  • I just love how back in the day people barely even touched when they danced but could still make it so sexy, and sensual, and romantic, SOOO CUTE!!

  • When I first saw the ad for this miniseries (I live in Canada, by the way), I thought, "Hey.. that's the guy from Trainspotting!" I just don't see him in a romantic role at all. It would be like Alan Rickman as Col. Brandon. But no, actually he fits the role, and I really love his version of Mr. Knightley - a true gentleman, but have no clue how to woo women haha..!

  • "Will you dance with me, dear Emma?"

    *thud*

  • LOL LOL LOL

  • mr k is brilliant!!!!

  • great acting on the part of mr. elton. love the part where he refuses to dance with harriet, yet tapping his foot at the same time!

  • Wow...loved Mr. Knightley's performance! When she said, "Your secret's out." and his head whipped around afraid she knew his real secret...priceless!!!!

  • @singdancelady23 I thought the same thing!

  • How Mr Knightly analyzes everyone- Love it !!and so well done-

  • I want a Mr. Knightley!!

  • I love the color of emma's dress. But, what in the heck did they do to the back of it. It looks caught some where not so nice.

  • Ok, Knightley has completely melted my heart!

  • That was a.. beautiful dismount by Frank :) <3

  • This is my favorite portrayal of Knightly now..... Mark Strong is a wonderful actor and Jeremy Northam is hot hot hot, but this guy.... he just GETS the character. He manages to make Knightly believably more mature than Emma, but still absolutely clear as to why he finds her attractive, aided by Romola's performance as well. Well done, BBC!

  • churchill is supposed to break up the gypsies, not make them run away.......

  • Comment removed

  • harriets fainting sight is sooo cool XD

  • this is some of the liveliest dancing i've ever seen in an austen adaptation! it's the regency period gone wild.

  • Mr. Knightley is such a wonderful man.

  • What a pompous ass that Mr. Elton is fortunately the adoring Mr. Knightley came to Harriet's rescue !

  • This is my favorite dancing scene I've seen so far from a Jane Austen inspired movie. I love the musical piece they chose...it's very sweet and fitting to the actors.

  • Oh, and funny how Mrs. Elton request's the Ship's Cook dance, yet refuses to dance with her husband for it!

  • @DiscoLemonade11 Yeah, I thought Mrs. Elton was gonna dance too.

She seemed so eager to when she requested Ship's Cook. So I thought she was announcing that the sheep's cooked or sth. lol

  • I love how the Eltons look so miserable together....

  • lol. I know! I do like this version though :)

  • Home run, BBC....and that is from an American who adores period dramas... I love the costuming and the dance with Mr. Knightley!

  • I love this ship's dance or whatever it is called....my daughters would love to see it too!

  • whats with Mrs. Elton's nastiness towards Emma?

  • Have you not been watching the movie?

  • and what is with emma"s nastiness towards miss fairfax

  • @musicaltrees I think mrs. elton figures out that her husband held a torch for her once....indeed he still pays a little too much attention to her. Also, Emma won't submit to Mrs. Elton's trying to take over. This is from reading the book and watching the whole movie.

  • lol. I don't see that.... but, I have actually seen ALL three versions before (the whole movies), Anyways I do feel sorry for Harriet and Jane, and glad that Emma befriends Jane later.

  • I read the book too, and I think it's because Mrs. Elton feels she's superior than everybody in Highbury, and she wants to "lead" the society - but Emma doesn't allow that.

  • The Ship's Cook dance seems to be a dance of a lower class, don't you think? But I like the melody :)
