I was at the cajun zydeco fest at hardrock hollywood and a older creole lady visitin fla. Said if i like the music here i should take a listen to rosie ledet Must say she was right ur good like the way u rock that accordian.keep up the good work
Saw Rosie @ the Trinidaddio Blues Fest in Trinidad Colorado this past Summer. She was really good! She had the crowd dancing & jumpin! Really wailin on that accordion, they know how to work a crowd! Had never heard much Zydeco music before that show, but now I am a fan. Rosie does some naughty lyrics in some of her songs but it's all in good fun! I was very impressed with her and her band. They kicked a**!
I don't think any of the videos do her or the band justice...I just saw her at the Green River Festival...they literally brought down the house...they all got in a real tight groove and just kept everybody dancing hard for over an hour!!
Haven't taken the time to read anyone else's comment yet... she is great, her band is un-tight. I recommend they practice with a metronome, and take bass lessons.
I don't think anyone has said: with zydeco the music isn't the thing.....if you have a good dancer draped over you for this you would wish the two chords would go on forever.....my .02
The genre of Zydeco is rather "the same" so wishing it were different is akin to saying that one doesn't like the genre at all...which is alright. But to wish it were other than it's own genre because it doesn't sound like other music...ridiculous.
Instrumental technicians should not confuse themselves for musicians. Yes, sometimes, one can be both. It takes a certain amount of musical maturity to pull off a true performance. I've seen folk strummers shame jazz acrobats off the stage within a few measures. It's important to keep your ego out of the way of the music. A performance should set up an atmosphere that everyone can breathe and participate in on a higher level.
Some music is meant to entertain and some music is meant to celebrate the incredible complexity of harmonic possiblilities. I just value the later enough to study it for a lifetime and to be told by casual listeners who have not spent 40 years studying music that I dont know what I'm talking about does nothing but help me emphasize my original point. But what would I know, I'm just a novice.
And for the record, I never attacted her personally. Truth be known, she's a really good singer. I would just like more interesting harmony behind her good voice. As a musician, I am watching music get more rudamentary with every generation and it is frustrating me. I am entitled to my opinion.
Greg Record companies have NO money for people who don't swear use the N word or act ghetto.....maybe if we promoted some diversity in the music today...she and other zydeco bands can spend all their time making more great kick ass funky music,
this IS NOT Zydeco, this is fucking R &B...they may herein UTILIZE some of the instruments that Zydeco is consistent of, but that doesnt make it Zydeco...She's doing basically what a beginner on guitar does when they play a non-chord that has a decent sound and they keep repeating it because it sounds cool, they might as well just have a loop machine going for what she's playing. Holding that accordian isnt fooling anyone who can go to town on one..
man i saw her afew weeks ago... now im going to new orleans. sadly im going to miss her there by two days. still she is soooooo fine and her band was so good that i came home and booked a flight....no joke..rosie is the real thing
This woman rocks!! Who care if she only plays one cord, hell maybe she's faking the whole thing, but she's got what it takes to rock the the place! There's thousands of folks out there that can play the hell out of something but they couldn't rock the place it it was on fire! Rosieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@GregWorzel Have you listened to Zydeco before or are you just "dumb" to it. Perhaps you are what is wrong with America. Don't insult a genre before looking it up.
@GregWorzel You obviously don't understand zydeco music. Zydeco and cajun music are meant for dancing, so naturally it is very repetitive. I'm from Louisiana and that was my main grievance against the genre, but I've recently started listening to it and trying to keep in touch with my heritage. You don't have to like it, but criticisms are unnecessary.
GregWorzel, I remember reading an article that said William Shakespeare only used 10,000 words in all of his writings. The author added, "Amazing how he traveled so far on so few."
@GregWorzel I agree. most of her songs are like that.the same two minor chords in different keys with no verse or bridge.sonds like she makes her songs up as she goes along.what a rip-off.
@GregWorzel I agree. most of her songs are like that.the same two minor chords in different keys with no verse or bridge.sounds like she makes her songs up as she goes along.what a rip-off.
@GregWorzel How many chords does a song have to have to make it valid, in your opinion? Sometimes minimalism is a good thing... Not everything has to be complex and impart a deep, serious, message. You would probably hate trance or electronica...
@GregWorzel shes africian americian so you haft to claim its good. everything they do is better than any white person can do. don't you understand that. we are a minority now. and yes i agree two chords. my grandpa plays a 120 bass and i play a cajun. and my 5 year old can out do her by a long shot.
@GregWorzel Ha - you have no clue what this music is all about. Those who can dance zydeco understand. It puts you in a trance. It's like sex, standing up (hmmm - trust me - it's better than that sounds...). You want chords - go to a jazz club... and go home alone!
That's a very minimalist arrangement, but it works. Let's her voice and the solos stand out more. Even people who aren't into zydeco can get into that.
It would have made for a great live recording for a CD release.
@lunchcountersitin - Exactly! That's what a lot of people love about Rosie. Even if you aren't a dancer you can sit and listen to good music and enjoy a great performance.
Cant hear the lead, but she is good, nice sound, nice voice, where was this, what state? I hope she keeps going, very very good. God Bless her, kick butt girl
This is groove rock. And it's hot!! I'm a musician myself and I love her music.
