It doesn't matter who you love, who you are, where you are, as long as you know that you are special. You are an individual and nobody can ever take that away from you. Life can sometimes deal you a difficult hand but if you keep playing it right, eventually all the cards will just fall into place :)
@ImaZombeh actually thats not true at all... i have no idea where ur getting ur information. Their main goal was to eliminate hate crimes on gay people all over the world and to make sure that everyone including gay people are treated equally go on their website UN.org
I think its a special thing when a person can provide such comfort and stability to a persons life, through a video. Your helping a lot of people :) all the best
"Get over it already. Everyone else already has." Sorry to report but everyone else most definitely has not. The right wing conservatives have not, the military has not, many many people have not. While I listened to your video and appreciate the information you convey, your title is a bit harsh and could be articulated a bit better if the intention of it is to help people, not scold them. Just saying editing the title to match the style of the info in the video (loving & helpful) is a +.
South Africa actually allows full gay marriage. Full marriage equality was rushed in after Apartheid was got rid of. However, it's a case in point that a country's legislation doesn't necessarily reflect the culture of a country.
Careful, William! You are on YouTube, thus you are "out" in a very international way. All the best, buddy. My Mom said something similar to me when I was 13! I am walking with you in your hurt.
I think some people don't really understand the reason of some gays don't want to come out. Some parents, family, friends accept you as you are, but that doesn't mean that it happens to everybody... I really thing william's life could get worse if he had told his parents when he was 19.....John: it's an amazing and very very important work that you're doing, don't stop!!
To William: Do you think your life could get any worse if you came out? You're facing a life of stress and shame, and probably health problems resulting from that. Time to do something.
have you been paying attention to the dang video? being gay isnt a choice, its just how life created you as. so i am guessing only ugly people are allowed to be gay or lesbian? sry for the little attack but it annoys me how small minded some people are...
why the fuck do you like being gay, i bet you could bang lots of hot chicks, you are better looking than a lot guys, what the fuck i just don't get why someone prefers being gay, than hot girls, you have lot of potential dude, it baffles me why so many guys are gay
Gay guys are attracted to men.Straight guys are attracted to women. If you tell a straight guy to go bang another guy(a hot one),he'll say "WTF?Why would I want to bang another guy?"
Same thing with gay guys,THEY'RE NOT ATTRACTED TO WOMEN,no matter how hot they look.
It baffles me why there are still so many ignorant people in this world who refuse to open their minds.
i can really relate myself to William's situation. I am really glad that i did not chose to commit suicide when i was struggling with my sex orientation. Life is definitely better now. And i am sure it will be even better in future. Just wait, you will see :)
Come on William, stop thinking about others, love yourself more!
"... my mother told me she would kick me out, that she could not afford to have a gay kid, and that she would feel frustrated and a failure as a parent if that was the case... listen very well to this: you don't have to sacrifice your happiness or your freedom, in order to protect or maintain others status quo or peace of mind... I am not encouraging you to go tell them in their faces, but just to learn to live with it, you don't need anyone's approval to be yourself."
I feel what william is going through. (Or gone through) I am a similar case my mom said she would feel embaresed and disgraced. Mighty selfish if you ask me.
i wouldnt come out to my parents knowing they would disown me, i really dont advise people to either, its better to until you are stable and have a route you can take without your families support. you cant just walk out, where would you go, what would you do.
my sexuality and feeling so alone and seperated for so long has caused me to become depressed and selfharm, ive recently got out of selfharm, and im trying to move past everything else. when you have a stable path to take, disown THEM.
I was taught once that although we have blood relatives and all that, when it really comes down to it, family is those around us who love and care for us.
The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself.
John, a heartfelt thanks for making this video. To William, I'll write. William, contact me any time; I'm out, intend to keep my faith, want to help in any small way.
very good video i just wish people would just get over this discrimination thing for just being yourself its pathetic! when its your own family it must be awful
Wow, hearing that almost made me cry. Perhaps if William's parents seen this Vlog, they might be a lot more caring towards William's feeling and what he's going through.
not only do you make peple smile and be comfortable. i think you have this ability to make us FEEL. and consequently want to act. thanks for taking up this question. Very relevant. this video is so sad....and its good cuz it REAL. thanks...lots.
because you can educate those who think begin gay makes society look bad per say, but how do you educate those who prosecute, and praise the prosecution of gays.
and that is what scares me because I'm uncertain as to how exactly you reach across oceans, country, where its a crime and not a social stain to be gay.
I have to say this video is very inspirational, but unfortunately it misses some reality and Please understand im not trying to hate, because I like your videos. I just want to point a different side of the view which is its not as easy to be gay to some esp. in some middle eastern region where being gay is punishable by imprisonment, lashings, and sometimes death. The question we should be asking ourselves, is what can we do to not just help our local community region, but to help everyone
WHAT!!! Christians not feeling guilty, that is the corner stone of their faith. Anyway, I think Williams parents are hate filled religious NUT JOBs, why else would they say that to their child, closet be damned.
Beautifully said. =) People are...well I'm not going to say b/c you know. But I just came here to say I admire that your willing to help and do all this for someone you don't even know. While I was watching this video I noticed that a part of me was living through you in a sense...and I'm happy theirs a gay man out there who is vlogging to ppl that are in need while I use the alternative root....one-on-one or phone =/ can be overwhelming but I know the feeling afterwords =) Your awesome!
When I hear stories like this one, it brings home to me how lucky I was to have my parents. My "coming out" to them was a total non-event. Just the way it should be for everyone.
Hi William, I don´t know if you´ll ever read this, but anyway, I just wanted to say that I´m hoping that everything will turn out to the best for you and that you somehow will find a way to live the life that you want. Lots of Greets ! Hugs to you, John ! XOXOX
very important video. faved. life IS worth living, as a gay person. i believe in changing ones perspective, choose NOT to accept societys version of you. You can create your own reality & world by starting to focus on loving urself, Then surround urself with people like you & understanding people who are willing to accept you. you will find peace, you always had it in you, just had to believe in urself. Im glad you wrote to john, sometimes we just need to be heard. 1 LIFE

Honestly... you need to make sure that you are happy. Don't live your life trying to make others happy!! You only live life once, enjoy it being out and proud. When the time is right you will come out too
I don't know if you guys followed Seejohnswim's channel, but he had an awesome channel (much like Couver) and because people in his hometown (he was out of state for University) found his channel and were harrassing his family he felt the need to delete his account and all his videos and leave all of his subscribers so that his family wouldn't have to deal with that.
It's disgusting. He's a smart, mature, sincere 20 year old who can't even friggin' youtube anymore just cuz he's gay....unfair
You do a very good job here on YT, thank you in behalf of all young gay men who are in trouble with themselves. For the few months I am here, I have read the most terrible messages... young men without one single friend to talk to... aw there still is a lot of work to do. Well you are doing what needs to be done. Thank you for that. Please don't stop.
OMG i was actually near to crying! I guess i had it easy when i came out as my parents just said "yeh i know!" so it wassnt a biggy. I hope William realises the truth in everything you said, even though im not sure EVERYONE already has?
Can i also say, if people were more open minded and accepting, it wouldnt be so hard or people to come out, and be the people they are afraid to be. The only people making it hard on gay people is straight people who cant understand how hard it is.
Can i just say, you are a really great guy for doing all these videos, ive found it really helpful. Peoples stories like william are so sad, and other peoples comments make it even better knowing we not alone. Im only 13, and confused, but people dont seem to realise, i dont know about worldwide, but in my country (it was even on TV),nearly 10% of the population is gay, and a lot more bisexual, , and people arent accepting are just narrow minded to think everybody is the same.
That was very sad to hear. William if you see this, just know you are not alone in this world and there are millions of guys just like you. Just know that without being true to yourself and who you are....you will have a life with your family but it won't be a REAL life. And it will just hurt even more. I know it takes time, and keep in mind to take baby step. Maybe start by telling a sibling or a really close friend who might understand.
It's true - South Africa is pretty crappy. Just because South Africa has legalised same-sex marriage does not mean that bigotry is dead. Bigotry is alive and well there. Black gays and lesbians suffer the most due to religious and sexual taboos taught by white missionaries who brought that "delightful" faith to Africa.
OMG John, you truely are an amazing person, just for reading that out, shows alot about who you are. keep up the good videos, I always look out for them when i log into my account :-D
I hope you (William) can find a way to live true to yourself. Parents sometimes act like their children have to be what they determine they will be. We only have to be ourselves. Even if you love your parents, they can't be allowed to define who you are. One day you may need to deal with their rejection. Please don't be so afraid of that that you hurt yourself. You're stronger than you think you are. Losing your family, if it comes to that, is hard, but it's not harder than losing yourself.
this comment made me smile. Gay people do not think that women are "that bad" either. Most Gay guys love women...in a different way.
Also, I wish it were that easy. Even if it paints the right picture for Mom and Dad, it is unfair to the woman and torture to the guy who is not being true to himself.
Thank you for sharing that message. The greatest gift of Youtube has been to let kids all over the world know they are not alone. The same feelings, fears, and challenges are experienced by anyone who is gay. Thank you for what you do. There is hope and life out there which is loving and fulfilling. LIve, get an education, become successful and independent...the best tool against homophobic attitudes and laws. Peace.
Fortunately South Africa is slowly moving away from its racist, homophobic, fundamentalist past. The ANC has introduced better gay equality laws than any in the USA. The black South African Archbishop and Nobel Prize winner, Desmond Tutu, is an outspoken campaigner for LGBT equality in the churches and more widely. He said:
"homophobia is a crime against humanity and every bit unjust as apartheid."
This is always a horrible horrible problem. There is a lifetime movie called "prayers for bobby" that focuses on a issue similar to this. It is a good movie and kind of shocking. It is a shame that people are so homophobic-- it is even more of a shame that some of those homophobic people father or mother gay children.
great video. feels nice to know that other people are going thru the same situation i am facing.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
my advice to him is to...just go with women in the meantime, they arent that bad
Pr4dat0r 2 years ago
this comment made me smile.

He said:
"homophobia is a crime against humanity and every bit unjust as apartheid."

this is why you're so important john!
i lucked out- never had to deal with coming out- was always allowed to be who / what i was.
still.. i saw too many people go through what william is dealing with..
and some of them just couldn't cope.. either giving up or numbing themselves with drugs to the point of being empty shells..
it breaks my heart.. literally!
i don't think i'm a good enough to give advice, i'm just a reliable friend..
i'm glad someone like you is out there doing what you do!
peace

This is always a horrible horrible problem. There is a lifetime movie called "prayers for bobby" that focuses on a issue similar to this. It is a good movie and kind of shocking. It is a shame that people are so homophobic-- it is even more of a shame that some of those homophobic people father or mother gay children.
