South Africa actually allows full gay marriage. Full marriage equality was rushed in after Apartheid was got rid of. However, it's a case in point that a country's legislation doesn't necessarily reflect the culture of a country.

I think some people don't really understand the reason of some gays don't want to come out. Some parents, family, friends accept you as you are, but that doesn't mean that it happens to everybody... I hope you (William) can find a way to live true to yourself. Parents sometimes act like their children have to be what they determine they will be. We only have to be ourselves. Even if you love your parents, they can't be allowed to define who you are. One day you may need to deal with their rejection. Please don't be so afraid of that that you hurt yourself. i lucked out- never had to deal with coming out- was always allowed to be who / what i was.

still.. i saw too many people go through what william is dealing with..

and some of them just couldn't cope.. either giving up or numbing themselves with drugs to the point of being empty shells..

This is always a horrible horrible problem. There is a lifetime movie called "prayers for bobby" that focuses on a issue similar to this. It is a good movie and kind of shocking.
