@spartan4461000 Early in the war infantry wore OD green fatigues while LRRPs and Special Forces guys wore the Tiger Stripe pattern. The ERDL pattern camouflage (Woodland camo wasn't until 1981) was being regularly issued to all soldiers by the end of the war.
In Vietnam, the troops almost never had all tje same type of gear. You'd have old style mag pouches, nylon suspenders, sometimes, if you got in country late, WWII canteen covers.
@TechnoMan985 They will work fine, but if you want to be correct to the period then you would want to use the older H-style cotton or nylon suspenders.
just so you know the compression bandage goes on your offhand shouldre im guessing left and the knife should be in you belt. it looks more "rambo" but if you had ever been en cqb you would know not to have it there
@SgtMcCullin in wwII everyone carried a colt. those who served since korea and WWII into vietnam kept thier pistols. the new recruits/draftees just got the bare minimum when it comes to equipment.
@AwokenDemon Where do you get that fact from? There is no way in hell the US govt issued a 1911 to EVERY soldier. The cost would have been staggering for a piece of gear that wouldn't have made a big enough impact on the battle. All weapons are strictly controlled... soldiers aren't allowed to just "keep" a weapon and carry it when they want to. I wasn't alive in WWII, Korea, or Nam, and I'm not saying I can't be wrong... but I am 99.9% sure that you statement is incorrect.
@lancebaker155 i didnt mean "keep" keep as it take it home i ment those who were issued them befor nam held on to them during the new conflict. they weren't necissarily issued to the draftees was the point because as you said, it would be too expensive.
@SgtMcCullin Grunt's carried what ever they could get their hands on. It's not likely that they had one, but it's not an outlandish idea that one could've carried an M1911.
my dad was infantry rifleman in 1969 he was in south vietnam and he never wore a helm. his hole divition just wore boonie hats so ppl you dont need to spend a shit load on a heavy helmet just pay like $6 on a boonie hat
Where Did you find all this gear and how much dide you spend. i need to know this because im trying to make a Vietnam War movie and i want it to look as real as possible
@TheShopRatsGear sorry i guess my comment was pretty vague, I'm trying to tigthen the belt part that goes around your waist, I was told you have to unhook the clips or something but I cant figure out how to do it?
@oldschoolcommy the WWII version will have an one adjustable side, the Vietnam ones have both ends adjustable, just unhook the metal end piece from the middle row of grommets and shorten it to desired length, then put the hook back into the grommet, and put one of the keepers at the end so it doesnt come undone
@Roguesoldier678 They've got some fantastic stuff for sale, even the rarest of Vietnam militaria. A very cool fact is that they've helped supply gear to many movies like X-Men: First Class andTropic Thunder.
@INORT12 well we have no MP's around here...and we only have like 2 cops that work like one day a week, and why would i want to walk around in the street with this stuff in the first place?
@TheShopRatsGear nice gear man. I have an almost full Vietnam war u.s. infantry uniform, except for the flack vest I hope to get one for Christmas, but I have a question. my m1 helmet is extremely loose. I understand that its not supposed to fit snug, but mine is extremely loose, so do you have any suggestions to help it sit up higher on my head and fit better?
@DigitalDXG well to help it sit up on your head higher i believe the suspension is adjustable.. im away right now so i cant look at mine, but try that, and the sweatband is also adjustable, so unless your a small kid or just have a tiny head you should have no problem adjusting it
@INORT12 If you don't have a BB gun there is no reason at all you can't walk around in it. Worst that'll happen is a cop stops and talks to you but you're not breaking any laws. If you have an airsoft gun your local airsoft gun laws might get you into trouble...
other than the liner is the ww2 m1 helmet basicly the same as the vietnam version? it looked smaller but idk. like i mean size wise and weight and look
@Airsoft3tc no offense to you airsoft3tcno, FOR THE MILLIONTH TIME TO YOU PEOPLE WHO ASK WHERE IT COMES FROM, ITS EITHER EBAY OR THE BRIMFIELD FLEA MARKET, OR SOME RANDOM ARMY & NAVY STORE I WENT TO
@TheShopRatsGear dude calm down. Not many people look through the comments and they are asking because they clearly like your loadout and are courious.
As someone else said this would be good for survival gear.. Probably as it is but with different equipment like first aid kits and stuff.. but nice vid.
@MSKreenacting33 it came as a set on ebay, there not cheap, this is a post nam, but i got this for christmas, dad paid $48, got another one thats a real vietnam one for $45 at a flea market
@TheShopRatsGear Well, you seem to be the expert, but i can never find sets. I also have trouble finding flak vests and helmets, any good vendors that you know of?
@MSKreenacting33 dont really know any vendors, if your having trouble finding stuff on ebay, just try searching every possible name for it, you might come up with something
1st off, take off that 3d Universal pouch, never never never worn that way!!, 2nd that nylon canteen cover is an ALICE one, even though it has the correct style, it has the metal grometts. 3d the buttpack is a nylon post war one along with your helmet cover and uou have a 1974 style chin strap, and lose the MK II handgrenade, a lemon or base ball would be more appropriate! ya need to fix those things, :)
@pwmiraldi67 yeah, i got a new butt pack, the m61, and i got rid of the third pouch, and swapped the knife on my shoulder with the first aid pouch, less weight and its not as bulky, i actually like it better, pretty sure its an m67 canteen, its dated 69, and ALICE was adopted in 73.
@FlyinMonkeysFTW i rarely buy off the internet. (pm sent about rest)
craigslist is a good place for cheap gear, mostly in groupings. i got a nam poncho, alice pack, sleeping bag, fatigues, belt, and two waterproof pack bags for $35. usually you can get some good scores there. next i would check out army and navy stores, big ones are ok, but the smaller ones tend to have more vintage stuff, but know more about the items, and prices can be higher,
@FlyinMonkeysFTW where at the big ones, they might not know what they have and you can get it cheap. then ebay would be last, usually you can find good stuff, but its almost always top dollar
@BlitzKreigFilms thanks man, I just got a new vietnam M1 helmet, 73 dated, i have a late 70's one, thought i could use a period one, check it out on the forum
