I got 3 black bears and 1 grizzly under my belt. Hoping to shoot my fourth black near this spring. Its funny to see how the big scary bears hit the ground so hard just from one bullet from my rifle. Just goes to show that theyre not as tough as everyone thinks. Happy huntin!
@AdventuresOfRedBeard Why do you hunt? What for? Bears are just like us. What would you do if bears were the ones that hunted you? I'm sorry but I hate that you said 'Happy Huntin!' it just sounds so cruel.
@PurpleHoodieGal Well missy, I hunt for the fun of it. When I see the life being drained from an animal, it makes me feel alive. Good day to you, young lass! :)
@AdventuresOfRedBeard You hunt for the fun of it? Don't you feel bad for those bears?? You've just proved that hunters don't have a good reason to hunt. Put yourself in their place...
@PurpleHoodieGal Of course hunters don't need a good reason to hunt. If I had to look for a good reason every time I wanted to shoot me a nice whitetail buck, my feature wall wouldn't be filled with the stuffed heads of trophy animals! It's a sport, missy, kinda like football or that ballerina stuff. It's all in good fun :)
@AdventuresOfRedBeard 'It's all in good fun'? I may not know a lot about hunting, but I know for sure that KILLING animals is wrong and they don't deserve that. Because of hunters, a lot of creatures are becoming extinct, don't you care about that?
@PurpleHoodieGal Now see here, missy! If killin' animals was wrong, that there government would put a stop to it. And aint you never read the bible? It says that animals aren't important, and that they are here for our amusement. I don't know where you get your facts missy, but I'll tell you one thing: they're dead wrong. Good day to you
You know that just because people hunt, doesn't mean they don't respect the animals or enviroment. There are people that Hunt to eat. Ones that hunt for sport... that i am unsure about.
Don't worry though, im sure that people will worry more about other animals instead of themselves. WE ARE ANIMALS TOO!. At the rate we are going, we are De-Evolving.
I wish that hunters would just realize that bears are just like us, humans. They have a family to care for, they a life to live and they need to stay alive.
Every animal has a life to live and they deserve to live, why must they suffer? I wish that hunters would give us a proper reason to why they kill creatures - but, i don't think they have one.
Bears are the most beautiful splendid animals in the animal kingdom. I LOVE BEARS!! These videos are so beautiful to watch; I "favved" all the sweet bear videos.
I'd love to be beside bears in their den; I'd cuddle with them! No kidding! Please protect bears and their habitats.
Black bears are wonderful animals. Like orcas, I am fascinated by their relationships with humans, which are generally peaceful and non-violent even though they have the strength to kill humans easily. I believe both species carry the same genetic/behavioural elements that dogs possess, which is why these distant cousins of man's best friend instinctively behave in comparable ways. If only we could treat these species (and others) a little better.
Black bears may be portrayed to a lot of people as vicious killers but actually they aren't. I love bears which is why I try to protect them. Animal Protectors Conservation is trying to spread the word about the proposed Lookout Expansion. Black bears live there and we need help trying to get them not to let it pass. For more info type in Stop the Lookout Expansion.
Black Bears in NJ really need your help. Big Trophy hunt to go down December 6th. You can call Governor Chris Christie (609-292-6000) wherever you are to ask for a humane alternative. He can stop it on a dime. Vid on my page gives some insight as to what is about to happen straight from the source.
SaveTheBearsCampaign I think trophy hunters are disgusting underdeveloped humans. Just be intelligent enough to see that their IQ's are far below normal. Think them like if they were Hiennas hunting to survive, altought hunters don't need to hunt. Also true plans are not shouted into public untill they are fulfilled, they are only yours.
Very interesting thing about black bear, is that they carry the recessive gene of getting the white coat happening very rare (without getting into albinism) I learned 3 weeks ago in Genetic Engineering class. That is why they are important !
The BBC has a very well-deserved reputation for good science documentaries. However, the statement that the bears hibernate for 7 months without passing waste or eating is simply untrue. All hibernating animals wake up from time to time to pass waste. Additionally, most wildlife biologists would argue that the small decline in body temperature seen in bears is not true hiberation.
@jsmallwood2007 Yes, that's what I said. Please read my comment again. What bears do is "not true hibernation." It is better to call it torpor. Hibernation is a drastic fall in body temperature for an extended period of time. Bears don't show that.
Black bears, are the gentlest type of bear, with Grizzlies being the most vicious. Black bears are portrayed wrongly, when in fact they are quite gentle, and over 89% of attacks are down to fear.
I can't believe that people can be so cruel in hunting the bears. I think it's disgusting, and very unnecessary. It's so upsetting. To think that, people kill bears, not for food, not for produce but for a trophy.
I am now 14, and I promise by the time I am 30, bear hunting will be illegal. Promise.
Im going to be brutally honest here, with all respect "savethebearscampaign" hunting will never come to an end, anywhere you go, seeing as killing to survive is not an issue in our lifetime, hunters will not continue to do what they want, if its population control or merely just for kicks. Its something that cannot be outlawed.
@SaveTheBearsCampaign wow, ur 14? im 15 and im for shooting of bears. By the time im 29 this world will be going on a one way ticket to helll... oh, and i see nothing wrong for the hunting of bears, they are just like any other animal and will be eaten for the meat.
@MrAnon95 While I'm not certain how I feel about hunting a killing bears, if you hunt them for food and take only what you need, I think that's fine. I do have a problem with trophy hunters and hunters who kill a bear just to take the gall bladder. But our ancestors hunted bears and as long as you respect the animal, no reason why we can't do the same.
@Averagebum2 That is an opinion... and who said hunting is a "game?" Also, give me one source that says that bear meat is not edible. Bear meat is edible (may not be that great) and my uncle shot and killed a bear once. It stands on a mount at our deer camp as happy as can be. If shot right, the bear (like all other animals) will go down very quickly, if not immediately.
@MrAnon95 So your uncle neither ate the bear's meat, nor sold it to be eaten. What then was the purpose of killing the bear? It stands happily on your camp? Are u deluded or something?
Just because it goes down quickly, justifies its killing?
@Averagebum2 First off, i don't track what happened to the bear meat... but my uncle isn't selfish and will donate if he can. He is a trophy hunter and also a "give-back" hunter. And before you go around trying to insult me, have you ever gone hunting? And HELL NO, you must not understand what it means by "going down quickly," when i say that i mean it has stopped moving, breathing, etc. I have shot animals which don't move at all after i have shot it. My family and i have been raised to respect
@Averagebum2 Well, my apologies if i have insulted you also. My belief is that Trophy hunting is a reward after a good days hunt for food. We may shoot that prized buck for meat, but also lets value it for its horns too. This is how my family works and you should honestly try hunting. Even if you don't want to shoot then at least relax in the tent (you will be there for hours lol) its a great experience... and once you find that deer... you get the biggest adrenaline rush in all of your life!
@Averagebum2 Because they are abundant and by shooting one will not cause serious damage to the ecosystem. So my response to your question is why not? The fur is beautiful, the meat will be eaten on way or another, its a great piece in your house, and a thrilling experience.
@jasonsitu oh, aren't you just funny... don't play dumb. Well you seem like the unintelligent one, i think you should be the one to be shot (natural selection). Plus do you even know how to handle a gun?
@SaveTheBearsCampaign I have no problem with trophy hunters because whatever they don't eat, they will usually donate to organisations or make the vultures and coyotes real happy.
@SaveTheBearsCampaign ; Don't be an idiot kid, bears, just like anything need to be managed. If we don't keep the numbers in check It will lead to more problems than you can imagine. How would you like to see bears roaming through your playground at school?.... sound cool I bet... now imagine that same bear, toothless and unhealthy and mange covered at age 25 (that's really old for a bear) scavenging through town in broad daylight with no fear of man and an appetite for fourteen year old boys.
@bill218mn- Then instead of killing them, why not find ways to domesticate them? Hey it worked for the wolves and coyotes. Thats where the dog comes from. Just a thought.
@bill218mn- Actually yes. LOL but not just about the life size teddy bear part. More about the part of alot of their mothers have been shot by bear hunters and/or the horny male black bears killing off the cubs so that the mother can go back into heat. The latter part is another reason why there are people who adopt and hand raise the cubs then release them into the wild once they are grown. If they domesticate them, they could become lifetime pets just like dogs and cats.
I hope that people won't hunt endangered bears, but some states rely upon bear hunting to fund their conservation departments. I certainly hope all bear hunting doesn't disappear.
@SaveTheBearsCampaign I hunt bears #1 for the meat (yes i do actually like black bear meat) #2 for the hides, and skulls. #3 too help the deer population since i am also a deer hunter. I will never waste meat, nor will i make the animal suffer. I think that bears are some of the most amazing creatures on Gods great planet. Growing up in alaska i see bears very often, they are way over populated. like 2 per square mile, the ratio of bears to humans is like 1 bear per 5 people where i live anyways

You are correct that black bears rarely attack people. The brown/grizzly species (Ursus arctos) is more likely to attack people.
However, brown bears are more likely to attack people because of fear or protecting their cubs.
Black bear attacks- although very rare-- are more likely to happen as a result of predatory behavior.
Stephen Herrero's book Bear Attacks and Their Avoidance shows that 90 percent of black bear attacks happen because the bear wants to eat the person.
