Awesome vid. you have turned me on to casting :) i hand load my 303 with sierra match. i love the casting part of the vid. what is the bronze colored fluid you bathe the fresh cast pills in?
Very nice video. These were commercial cases I am assuming. Which brand? Any Mil-surp boxer primed available? Or are they all Berdan? Have you tried to re-load the Berdan primed European cases?
Just wanted to ask, how long does it take you to recast 100 bullets (I'm going with the rough standard infantry issue for .303 rounds). Thoroughly enjoyed watching this, I happen to have a Longbranch No4 myself, although never fired it as its de-activated, though would love to fire one of the Lee Enfields sometime. Also, I noticed at the end you picked the cartridge out from the rifle from firing, did you do any work on the extractor so it doesn't fling it away after bringing the bolt back?
@ColdFusion0 Any particular reasons, or is it just because it'll gunk it up? I'm just curious, I've read that on modern rifles, the rifling can't cope with black powder, so I was just wondering how this would cope, since the 303 was initially BP propelled. That is unless Enfield have updated the rifling over years...
@ColdFusion0 i tried that with my lee dies and the decapping rod( not sure on its official name) got stuck in the case, lost 4 cases that way because i had to cut it out, so i started to neck size only.
Loved every bit of your video. Got the gear to start for myself and I think i'm really gonna enjoy the hands on part of all applications. Thanks for the tutorial.
1: The lead you used was somewhat "dirty" doesn't these impurities affect the (future) bullet ballistic?
2: Same question about when you "lube" the bullet. They are simply place in a bucket and shaken. Is the lead resistant enough not to dent and deform the bullets?
Bear in mind I'm not a shooter, I'm just someone who stumbled on one of your video and is impress my such dedication and work you put into this ! And seeing how accurate the result was I guess there's margin.

@LongRifle100 - The brass is Remington. I had never try to reload Berdan brass. I don't have decapping die for Berdan primers.

Been thinking about the tumbler/dry media cleaning option...right now I do the old soapy/vinegary liquid wash...works, but kind of a pain.

i see u got the delux lee kit.. why dont you just neck size the brass?
bak1911 1 month ago
@bak1911 - I like neck sizing but this brass has not been fired from this barrel.

Is it much cheaper to cast your own bullets or just buy them? Also do you resize you bullets or not?
MrMapex2010 3 months ago
@MrMapex2010 - Yes, the lead is free. I don't resize this time because the mold is exactly same diamenter as the barrel.

excellent loading of .303 brit. What powder are you using? I assume that was 215gr cast projectile? (I use IMR 4064 myself)...
RabbitusMaximus 1 year ago
@RabbitusMaximus - Thanks. The bullets are 314 Diameter- 200 Grain Round Nose Gas Check. The powder is 40 grains of IMR 4350.

@godzilla74114 - When you full size the brass must be lube.

@ColdFusion0 i did, ample lube.

I've been reloading for about 20 years. This is an excellent video. It gave me some ideas for some different ways of loading the .303
Good job Cold Fusion

at 6:52 is that one way to make a bullet head?
cleosimble 1 year ago
@ 6:52 is lubricating the bullets so they don't lead the barrel.

After the lead is melted you can scoop the impurity on top with a spoon.
Lead bullets don`t dent when you shake them because of the lube.
Lead bullets are great choice for old worn out barrels because they form easier than jacket bullets.
