  • Somewhere . . . at some time . . . Peter Brook somehow lost the essential thread of things.

    Hard to say now whether he was never really capable of realizing it . . . or whether he betrayed that capability.

    The "essential thread" is just the nature of what underlies our everyday experience and connects it to its ultimate source, purpose, and meaning.

    Sometimes in his career . . . Brook seems to be intentionally cultivating that inner source.

    But other times . . . he seems to be distracted by outer forms that are only superficially & remotely connected to it.

    He doesn't appear to have the capacity to tell the difference. He doesn't seem to know what he's doing . . .
