how long do i have to do all three previous exercises until i can do the power exercise? and how long do I have to do the power exercise for the best results?
hey question about the lunges if its displayed for example 1/2/3 so you do one long one shallow (R&L) then move onto the next number? sorry about posting on both not sure which you reply to :)
hey i'm 5'9, 13 yrs old 59kg 130lbs. I'm from singapore, some people say that the rims in the country arent really 10 ft high. I'm able to touch the back board with quite a small thrust, similar to the amount of the basic squat you were talking about in the strength video. i got really low hang time, and it seems like i can just go up touch the board and then come down almost like immediately. as in 0.01 sec just back down onto the floor. what is the correct way to bent down and then explode up?
@AshGhiassi1 Both guys have Verts over 40". Chris is an excellent basketball and volleyball player; Taylor is an excellent basketball player and track (long jump and triple jump) star!
@exchamelot check out the Vertical Series on the Shot Science channel and use the "Dynamic Stretching Package." Then again, I'm sure you're already on that one by now!
Hi chase, i'm david. i need a little help well i'm 5'8 and a half and weighs about 195 lbs.
is it ok to play basketball at that condition or should i first lose weight and what can i do to lose? weight and still involves about basketball, because for me basketball is my life.
oh by the way chase I can do? 50 push-ups and 12 suicides and then i get tired. I'm 14 years old.
@AAA2T David, If you would like to lose weight it is much more dependent on what you eat than how much basketball you play. The physical activity of playing basketball definitely plays a role in your weight, but for a quick comparison. A meal at a fast food restaurant could easily be 1500-2500 calories. To burn 2500 calories you would need to play basketball at a high intensity for about 4 hours with no breaks.
Hey Chase, would it be possible for a person of my height (5'7) to dunk from doing these exercises? Also I would like to ask if genetic really affects the height of your offspring? I'm still growing, but I'm already 15. I think I will,at most, get up to 5'8~5'9 at most 'cause my dad is 5'7 and my mom is only 5'1.
@WtfItzHuy It really all depends on your muscle build and genetics. You can improve your vertical jump by a lot, but only within the limits of your own genetic. Yes your height is BASED on your genetics, but not totally dependent upon them. There are many other factors that determine your height, but genetics is #1.
@R4PTORSDYNASTY: We have had some real problems up-loading this video to YT. We have consulted with them and we have no answer yet. We are working on it. Sorry for the delay. It's frustrating for us too. We think the video is too large for YT to handle. Stay tuned, as we will get it up soon.
@Iverson0603: Taylor is 17 and 6'2". His vertical is about 40". He will do the Triple Jump in the California State Track meet June 5th. His best jump is 47'8".
Thank you very much Chase, but I feel ashamed, I am 6' 6" and I can only get about half my hand over the rim without the ball and not more. I am a bit sturdy (220 lbs) with a medium amount of muscles but I dammit, I am the height of Kobe, Michael Jordan and Vince Carter... I should a least get a simple dunk done, right? Is there anything technical I can try (jump off? speed?)? From a standing position I can jump ~15" high (approximately). If you answer is longer feel free to send a pm. Thx!!
@Xialiet: You do not need to these exercises for long periods of time. They are meant mostly just to teach the body how to perform specific movements more efficiently. So, do each exercise until you feel fatigue.
can you please make vids about passing??? coz i'm a point guard and my team is counting on me to distribute the ball to other players, but i'm scared that i might screw up
@LiLAbdi97 It is likely because you overloaded your body before it was ready and caused injury or you have become less flexible or stable causes a decrease in your vertical. We will have our full length vertical video out very soon.
@13Kryptonite Hard to make a general statement its different for everyone. Some will see immediate results with flexibility and stability exercises, but for real strength gains it take at least 4-6 weeks to see even the slightest changes.
Hey Chase, how are you doing man? I'm doing squats with a MEDICINE BALL. I'm planning to do the 5-5-5 squats. 1st set - normal speed. 2nd set - quick down, slow up. 3rd set - slow down slow up. And i will also be doing Lunge Matrix to train my lower body strength. But while doing it, i will be carrying 2 dumbells, each at one hand at the same time. Do you think these exercises are good to increase my vertical? Even if it is, will they stunt my growth? Hope to hear from you soon!
@comecomecome11 I would focus on making sure you can perform these exercises perfectly without weight, meaning your ankle knee hip are always perfectly in line and you are perfectly balanced. If you are younger than 14 or 15 I wouldnt use any weights you can do plenty without the weights and you likely cannot do these movements without some error and the weights only increase the risk of injury
Does anybody have suggestions on what they would like the next set of videos to cover from a training perspective?? The downloadable vertical leap video should be out very soon, but if you have ideas on other content (speed training, power in the post, lateral movement, etc) please suggest them!!
@mambaized hey chase...i have a weird problem. I just started playing basketball and im a freshman in highschool. The people i play with are like, simply amazing, including a 5'5 kid who can dunk lmao. They like never miss and they tried teaching me how to do a jumpshot, however, my accuracy goes way down when i jump. I dont understand this as i am a decent shooter standing still
@chasecurtiss passing pls coz i'm a point guard and my team is counting on me to distribute the ball to other players, but i'm afraid that i might screw up
@mambaized: It has had some good results, but also a lot of injuries because they do not address common jumping mechanical issues with corrective exercises unique to each individual. Much better program than some that choose to use devices like jump soles. My opinion is that it too quickly advances the athlete into loaded movements before the athlete may be ready.
nice! I love yr 4 criteria. Just a lil' bit lack of further explanation, i love jump manual Jacob Hiller. check it out or you might teach us somethin' about his programme. thx, looking forward to yr full version.
@kb826062871 There is further explanation and exercises to work on each of the four areas coming out in the full length downloadable. The 4 part series was meant to give viewers a guideline for how to structure their own training program.
