I always felt the message of the movie itself was neither capitalist nor anarchist. The workers are horribly repressed, but when they "let the machines die" it unleashes horrible destruction. The author felt that mediation between the rulers and workers was the best option.
Where is the description of this video from? Did you write it, or is it from somewhere else? I love how it is written. I wish everyone could read it because I think it's a message that is in the back of all of our minds.
The text is from several Situationist/Anarchist sources. I just pieced it together with some editing and rewriting to make it flow better. See: Situationist International, CrimethInc, Ken Knabb
There is no audio. I have used various audio in the past from Music to Voice Over, but I decided to post this with no audio. You can always add your own. ;-)
Self help and motivational films are subtle propaganda. They mean, work harder at suceeding, but it has the pre-suposition that working harder within capitalism will bring benefits for society. We now know this is not true
Has anyone noticed we're getting an exceptionally large number of "believe in yourself and you can make it" films lately? I'm thinking of the new Will Smith movie. Are the workers not producing enough? Seriously though, with the torrent of spectacular diarrhea advertising itself as rebellious individualism today, the ideas of situationism are more relevant than ever. Sadly, consumershit capitalism's here to stay, but you don't need a crowd for radical practice. Make noise, create yourself
Yeah exactly, the propaganda system feeds us bullshit fantasies of becoming successful if we just do our duty and don't expect anything. The reason for it is clear in my opinion, Marx showed clearly that under the wage system every ounce of surplus labor is translated directly into profits for the ruling class. So naturally the bourgeoisie has to put it into our heads that working too hard for no benefit=good and noble.
Well regardless, the result is pretty good. It's quite refreshing to unexpectedly bump into such postings in here especially since the situationists seem to be a rare breed nowdays. A great surprise. Thank you.
No more than the video is "mine". Most of the text is taken from various situationist writings and reworded/edited by myself. I guess you could say I used the same means to produce the text as I did to produce the video.
These sort of videos are great when working on an essay about the American Dream.
