Cluster bombs should still be used, but only in highly specific circumstances and only once they have been refined to produce 99% - 100% detonation of all bomblets. All old and unreliable stockpiles should be destroyed or recycled for materials. Regulations should be in place wherein cluster bombs are only usable X number of miles away from civilian populated areas. Perhaps some sort of other bomb or sonic field could be projected upon the target area afterwards to detonate any leftovers.
Imagine if you can, 10 Americans going into a foreign country and destroying a building full of people because they think they're way of life is evil. The next day, 50,000 troops from that country are now occupying yours, bombing and killing your friends and family, because of the acts of those 10 men. Where is the logic in that?

In today's age of technology and with all the wealth industrialized countries have, there is no reason not to use an alternative and more precise ordinance such as smart bombs, to ensure that military targets are destroyed effectively while minimizing the loss of innocent civilian life. Agree that is inhuman. The problem that such weapon is in use is that international community does'nt have influence needed to stop war when it happens. My country has such weapons in arsenal and I think it is only option. Because of no county will do nothing when someone uses it. So the treaty is useless since smaller counties will have no protection when bigger will attack . My country also has landmines banned but after war in georgia it looks like, we must step out from that treaty also.

It's unreasonable to think we could live in a world without weapons, but can't we live without weapons that that cause more harm than good? These bombs cover a large area, so I'm confused to as why countries would use them in areas with a lot of innocent people? Couldn't they use something more, accurate?

Cluster bombs should still be used, but only in highly specific circumstances and only once they have been refined to produce 99% - 100% detonation of all bomblets. All old and unreliable stockpiles should be destroyed or recycled for materials. Regulations should be in place wherein cluster bombs are only usable X number of miles away from civilian populated areas. Perhaps some sort of other bomb or sonic field could be projected upon the target area afterwards to detonate any leftovers.

In today's age of technology and with all the wealth industrialized countries have, there is no reason not to use an alternative and more precise ordinance such as smart bombs, to ensure that military targets are destroyed effectively while minimizing the loss of innocent civilian life. Besides, if you're trying to win "hearts and minds" turning your enemies country into a dangerous minefield is not in your best interest. It just helps the terrorists cause and gives people reason to join them.

Wars should be fought as humanly as possible with certain rules, regulations, responsibility and accountability. I believe that abolishing the use of cluster bombs is a good idea. This video has proven that to me. Roughly 30% of these ordinance fail to explode on impact, which turns the designated target area into a minefield. Killing and maiming innocent children and other people decades after a war is over. Maybe even one of you while you're visiting on holiday. It is just wrong.

Agree that is inhuman. The problem that such weapon is in use is that international community does'nt have influence needed to stop war when it happens. My country has such weapons in arsenal and I think it is only option. Because of no county will do nothing when someone uses it. So the treaty is useless since smaller counties will have no protection when bigger will attack . My country also has landmines banned but after war in georgia it looks like, we must step out from that treaty also.

@Jackle61 ok so heres the thing im in the air force so i build these things, as an ammo troop we love these things, back in iraq in 2003 our marines came up against two enemy tank fleets we had mostly hummers and our tanks were out numbered. one cluster bomb was dropped and took out over a hundred enemy tanks at once. the second wave of enemy tanks surrendered immediately and the marines never fired a shot. make no mistake about it we need cluster bombs. I personally believe the UNSC should come together and implement a Grade "A" weapons list of the most destructive weapons and to implement a resolution that at the very least will call upon countries NEVER to use these weapons except as last resort e.g nuclear weapons is an example.

We should ban cluster bombs from people who would use them in populated areas, however, the U.S. does not use cluster bombs in civilian locations, they have whole different rules of engagement just for using cluster bombs, and how far they have to be from ANY civilian area.

Not the point. The point is that a significant number of the bomblets are known not to go off, and that these will later pose a serious threat to civilian life. That's the issue; the INTENDED targets of these weapons aren't.

I much admired Princess Diana because these mines and bombs were a main crusade for her. I hope things will change when Bush/Cheney are ran out of office and we can have a change in Washington. Maybe we can, I don't give up hope.
