Honestly IMO they sound like shit unless they are pushing a cranked tube amp. Tone knob 50% or less sounds best. Sustain knob depends on the strength of your pickups
@MGKraest i think i might have to agree with you man. Thinking about keeping mine and using it as my distortion type pedal, i have a cival war muff clone that sounds twice as good as this as a fuzz pedal
There are a few different Muffs around that are really good and transparent sounding -- some of them are very pricey original vintage pedals and some are clones of these pedals.
The basic rundown for good sounding Muffs to play Pink Floyd is this:
Late 60s-Early 70s Triangle (Gilmour used early-on and in On an Island) - $600-800
Early 70s Ram's Head (Gilmour used from Animals to MLOR) - $500-600
Early 90s Civil War - (Gilmour used on Pulse) $400-500
@MGKraest Thanks for the info. I'm planning to get a new Muff at some point in the near future, as I am becoming less and less attached to my NYC Reissue. I can barely scrape a serviceable tone out of by driving it with my Wylde Overdrive. (Best example of my tone is my newest Final Cut solo cover)
The Cornish pedals are very pricey modified clones of the Muffs (P-1, P-2, G-2) $700-1200 per pedal.
The Large Beaver that I have is based around the Ram's Head Muff but has an EQ on it that flattens and boosts the mids -- also a tone knob (wicker Muff) bypass.
recommend any decent settings? I cant seem to nail the fuzzy tone that i want owt of mine

@MGKraest have you ever checked out stomp under foot? he makes great muff clones.

@marvelboy04
I've checked them out, but decided to go with this one because it's so versatile with the built-in selectable EQ.

How does this compare to the other Big Muffs available, and how much does this cost in relation to them?

Some clones are great -- some are crap.

Large Beaver EQ knob:
Position 1 = Regular Scooped Muff Mids
Pos. 2 = Flatter mids like the Russians
Pos. 3 = Humped Mids like an MXR Distortion+
Pos. 4 = Tone Bypass
