Why are there people trying their hardest not to give Bobby Caldwell credit for doing this song first?? He and Alfons wrote the song and its on Caldwell's first album. That was in 78. There are no versions of this before 78. I dont get what the problem is....
"What You Won't Do for Love" is a popular quiet storm single written by Alfons Kettner along with musician and singer Bobby Caldwell which he recorded for his debut album of the same name, released in 1978 on the TK Records label. So its not a remake for Bobby, beautiful song
sure did..One of the best gems form the 80s unknowns/lesser knowns...Classic..This song always gives u one of those feelings man...Timeless, priceless classic.
It's always difficult comparing originals to re-makes, however, Go West has done as masterful of a job with their work as I've heard yet. They're terrific.
@bootseybuddy I agree, it is hard to do a cover, esp. when there is some one like me who is emotionally attahed to the original. But there are exceptions. I do love this version and Bobby's version. Even Bobby redid a version on a "greatest hits" cd he put out called Timeline: The Anthology, Pt.1. It is a great version also. Example of songs I hatte redone is Staind's version of Black by Pearl Jam. I love Nickelback's version of Saturday Night Alright For Fighting.
hate to tell everyone but the orgianl version of this song was done Buy Natalie Cole and Peabo Bryson. Not bobby Caldwell. Sorry everyone. Bobby Caldwell did a remake as well.
@LucianRaidijiu you are wrong. Bobby wrote and recorded the song in the late 70s. Natalie and Peabo did a cover version of it in about 1980. It's so easy to check facts. You should give it a shot.
Oh how I love this song. Unfortunately I don't know too many others that do or even know the song to begin with. I first discovered this song(or Go West's version) on the back of the King of Wishfull thinking single. How time flies. This song still makes me want to get a bottle of wine and the right person and have a sultry evening. (^-^)
@dal4018 Bobby had a lot of session guys on his album so I don't know who exactly. He also plays keys, guitar and bass so he may have played it himself
I totally love Go West's take on Bobby Caldwell's classic song. This version has a funky, danceable groove. And Peter Cox's smoky, soulful singing is A-plus!
@dal4018 I equally enjoy Bobby Caldwell's original version and Go West's version. Caldwell's version is moodier and a little melancholy, which is how you can feel when "you try everything" for love. Go West's version feels more upbeat and hopeful. That's why "you won't give up" finding real love.
@DaddyTre65 Caldwell version is much more moodier than GO WEST and the bass player is a tad more noticeable than the guy on GO WEST but not by much.Caldwell has a background in jazz singing that's why he's got more vocal range.

This song is the song that I always play when I feel broken hearted after being left by my girlfriend.
