  • I've been swindled!!!

that was the same dance from the one where the rabbit sings " I wear my green fedora",

he even has same facial expressions,, this is a great cartoon, wonderfull!!!

  • Them Slap Happy Boys, sheesh how anoying. Even the guy with the fan was glad they were shot!

  • This cartoon probably isn't considered politically correct or acceptable nowadays for obvious reasons. But it has some pretty good animation and visual gags. Sadly, there aren't many cartoons nowadays that have this much effort or quality into them.

  • ah I love this song

  • Eh, in hindsight, maybe making the Genie look black was not the smartest of choices...

  • osama bin laden got candy beans and has been angry ever since lol

  • Hollywood's portrayal of the Middle East during those days might have been showy and cool (even I thought the 1924 version of the Thief of Baghdad was awesome) was complete and utter orientalist fantasy

  • "POLICEMAN!!" LOL@1:38

  • Long before the two Gulf Wars and Saddam Hussein, the REAL Bagdad!!!

  • @ENACODNOM Hollywood's portrayal of the Middle East during those days might have been showy and cool (even I thought the 1924 version of the Thief of Baghdad was awesome) was complete and utter orientalist fantasy.

  • This was one of the two Merrie Melodies to have black stereotypes that CN had no problem airing. (Malibu Beach Party was the other)

  • This is taken from a Cartoon Network Toonheads broadcast

  • 4:04 is freaking hilarious!

  • The opening is sort of a mix of the 1937 rings and the 1938 music (closing music still 1937), and it has an updated "That's all Folks!" script. The only cartoons known to have this is "A-Lad-in Bagdad" and "Cracked Ice" (both 1938).

  • Here's the complete list of shorts with the1938 music in the 1937 rings:

*The Major Lied 'til Dawn (rel. 08/13/1938)

*A-Lad-In Bagdad (rel. 08/27/1938) (this short)

*Cracked Ice (rel. 09/10/1938) (slightly different opening theme)

*A Feud There Was (rel. 09/24/1938) (reissued 1954)

*Little Pancho Vanilla (rel. 10/08/1938) (reissued 1948)

*Johnny Smith and Poker-Huntas (rel. 10/22/1938) (reissued 1946)

  • WHat about "Jungle Jitters" (1938).

  • No, that was released February 19, 1938. The new opening theme music was used starting in August, and continued use in the following green rings title shorts:

    *You're an Education (rel. 11/05/1938) (reissued 1947)

*The Night Watchman (rel. 11/19/1938) (reissued 1946)

*Daffy Duck in Hollywood (rel. 12/03/1938)

    *Count Me Out (rel. 12/17/1938)

*The Mice Will Play (rel. 12/31/1938) (reissued 1950)

*Dog Gone Modern (rel. 01/14/1939) (reissued 1947)

  • Caracature of Jerry Colonna as the Sultan. the use of "Bei Mir Bist du Schoen" at 5:10 originally based on a Hebrew Melody in an Arab (Moslem) setting is pretty humerous, tho' it was a song that was top of the pop charts i 1938 w/Andrews Sisters.

  • Egghead's dance from 4:12 to 4:43 was used before in "The Woods Are Full Of Cuckoos" (1937).

  • That was Bei Mir Bist du Schoen, a very popular song at the time this was made.

  • Oy! What' s the title of that song EggHead-Aladdin is singing (5:13. . .). Anyone, pray tell. Thanx!

  • Who did the voice of Egg Head? He's freakin' hilarious!!

  • This was first released in August 1938; hence, the caricature of the movies' #1 handsome leading man at the time, "Robert Taylor", at 7:28...

  • Did that dude shoot those singers!!??

  • Egghead behaving in his most Joe Penner-ish mode. Incidently, the two "howdoyoudo" performers were the Interwoven Pair (aka the Happiness Boys), singing radio commercial performers for Interwoven Socks...singing commercials were considered the lowest form of music in the 30's, hence the pistol shots.

  • wow, that's pretty mature.

  • Heh no it's not P.C. at all,

But that ending was a bit of a suprise.

  • long live iraq

  • Now I know for sure why I've never seen this one as a child-a black genie and Arab stereotypes too! Thanks for uploading this one
