My wife of 29 years was diagnosed with early onset Azheimers a week ago. We have more testing to do but the specialist is sure. She is 49 years old. She is a sweet gentle person who does not deserve this. Watching the love of my life slip away bit by bit each day is breaking my heart. She has had symptoms for a while now but like so many people we did not take them seriously until they got really noticable.I dont know what to do and Im so scared for her( and myself) .
Just to clear things up about early onset Alzheimers. There is no proof that Alzheimers is hereditary! Just because your parents have Alzheimers dose not mean you will automatically develop it! No one knows yet what causes Alzheimers. I know we all begin to wonder if we will get this terrible illness caring for someone with dementia as we can become stressed, depressed caring for them and there for become forgetful and begin to wonder if we are developing Alzheimers It's a natural thing 2think
@simonmonty Not ALL Alzheimer's is hereditary, but the form that is in my family is. My family is part of a study to help cure Alzheimer's. My cousins and aunt were on NBC nightly news to speak about it and you can find the videos on the msnbc website.
The titles of the videos are:
"We're being part of the cure" and
"We'd go anywhere and do anything to help cure Alzheimer's" if you would like to look them up.
@Shmoo06 Sounds scary. have you ever looked into 1072nm infrared helmets for alzheimers or the new drug being developed in australia called the pbt2 drug being studied by a company called prana ?
Hi, I just lost my mother to EOA, she was diagnosed at 58. Terrible disease! The long goodbye is what it is. Hope you and your family are hanging in there!
Thank you for sharing your story. I have my mom living with me and my sister. We've learned that mom is in early stage of Alzheimer's. She is 63 which is still young for Alzheimer's. I have been watching a lot of the video's uploaded here on youtube. I am cherishing every moment i have with my mom.
I know you must be having a hard time...I have a grandmother who has alzhimers but the rest of the family either dont know. about it or are in denial about it. I have heard its hereditary... I think the hardest thing is..is the personality changes..my grandmother is so angry all the time..im not a doctor ..but i have heard that heavy metals and toxins inflame the brian..and supposedly cause alzhimers. ive heard that a raw food diet helps elimiate this or at least helps...thx for posting this :)
now I'm really freaking out....I was looking on youtube about Alzheimer's because my 88 year old mother has it........so now I am finding out that you can get this in your 40s????????
@Shmoo06 You can get early onset Alzheimer's two ways... Firstly, you can inherit it - if your mother or father has it, you have a 50/50 chance of getting it. If they both have it, you have nearly a 100% chance. You can also get it sporadically without inheriting it. I know this because my father has early onset Alzheimer's disease.
I'm 14 and my dad is 50 and he has alzheimer's disease, and its hard when no one really understands what its about. Its not hard to understand but no one besides my mum can relate to it.
hey thamks for this video ur an insparation!!!! my mom got diagnosed at 49 and its a really really hard disease to understand and deal with but i will keep you in my prayers and hopefuly you can keep us in yours....my name is anne carmen herrera and if u wanna facebook me id love to be your friend
thanks for posting...it does suck...my mom passed away in 2001 she was 54 with early onset and my sister was just diagnosed with early onset last year - she's 40! my mom's sisters both have it and her brother passed away a few years ago, and her parents both had Alzheimer's - not early onset - but there is a strong genetic link. thank you for sharing, I was 26 when my mom passed away and didn't really understand to appreciate my time with her. you have a good attitude, thanks.
Thumbs up - My Grandmother have Alzheimer's. She is getting harder and harder to tell and speak with us. 2 weeks ago, she could do anything. but now, she have 2 helpers on a day. Helping her with food, clothes. Please people! Love you familly when you still got it! Even if you hate them, they are still your familly. Care them, love them. And please, say " I love you " to them. Couse maybe, it's the last chance you'll ever get.....and.. she have a car, wich she thinks, she can drive, but, she can't
If you ever suffer from Alzheimers or have a loved one who does, there is hope. If you want to know more detail about Nita Scoggan's story you can got nitascoggan.comand hear her story, hope this helps:)
I just turned 49 on Dec27th 2010. My mom got Alzheimers in her early 50's. She passed away at 66 yr's. I really feel your pain in every way. During her last 8-10 years she didn't know who I was. Her youngest child. She has six kids and she did recognize me her baby. It is very confusing to our minds to even try to comprehend that your Mom doesn't know you. Your so right that you just have to deal with it and make those times when she was in the early stages, I called them Windows. You were lu
Thank you for this. It's honestly the hardest thing to deal with. I don't want to deal with it, but I have to because someone in my family was just diagnosed. While watching your video I burst into tears. This is the most I've cried in a long time. Thank you for letting me know I'm not alone. It makes me feel a little bit better. And I'm sorry for your loss. I'm sure your dad was a wonderful man. xo
Aw, thank you for posting this. I emailed it to my youngest sister because she was 15 when our dad was diagnosed with early onset dementia at the age of 54.....9 years ago. It was devastating, as you know. My youngest sister has had a especially rough time dealing with it because she felt so alone, like no one understood. I know she will really feel comforted by your kind words. I hope you have a Merry Christmas....Laurel
Thank you Schmoo06. What a powerful video. We'll post it as a favorite and I hope more young people find it and get some comfort from your message. You sounds like a very brave and excellent daughter. Your family is very lucky.
Thanks for the video. It did help. I have a sister that was diagnosed last year at the age of 54. I can relate. She has two children in their early 20's. It is very hard to accept. My mom also died of Alzheimer's but she was 80 when she passed away. It is hard to accept anytime but especially when they are so young. My thoughts and prayers are being sent to you and your family.
Thank you so much for your video. It's important that sons & daughters have someone like you so they know they aren't alone and that others are out there dealing with the same thing. YourTube is such a great way to voice your feelings such as this. Your video is heartfelt and educational. God Bless you sweetie and your family. Take care.
I have my husband who has this terrible illnees my kids have had a rough ride watching him disapear, its just like you said the person you love becomes a shell with a stranger inside. I cry myself to sleep each night as I am not all that clever to understand whats happening. To be honest I don't know everything I will deal with whatever comes but god knows its hard. I went on facebook to find someone to talk too but had no joy. I feel so alone my life will be worth nothing without him
Thank you so much for your video. Very, very heartfelt exuding the warmth we all need. I'm older than your Dad and my Mom has Alzheimer's. Like your Dad and you, she and I have always been close. Hurt is there for all ages, but I think more pronounced for the young. I'm sorry you must go through such a thing.
I am 24 and my dad has early onset Alzheimer's. He is 59 years old. He has had it for four years now. We recently had to put him into a nursing home. He is pretty far advanced in his disease. I can't tell you how much this video helped me. I thought I was the only one going through this. I have a lot of support around me but no one knows what it is like to loose your father to this disease at such a young age unless they have been through it. I feel your pain soo much!!!
My husband's sister has early onset and I can see how difficult your situation is because we also have watched her deterioration over the last few years. I thank you for sharing your story and please know that there are people out there who are with you all the way. You are a very bright, compassionate person.
I am 49 and was told of early onset 18months ago approx.
married with 3 children and not a very nice future i guess. no, i have gone through being cross and upset. i take each day as it comes and try not to think about it to seriously. i try to keep as positive as i can and that really works for me. if i forget stuff so what, if i get confused so what, i just try to carry on as normal as i can. all i can say is keep strong and as upbeat as you can for as long as you can, and god bless us
I won't reiterate what others have posted, but you are an incredible young woman to share your story. You must have lovely parents to have produced you! Keep up on advances in this disease...the researchers are finding a link between AD and cholesterol. Do what you can to eat a diet low in cholesterol now. There will be a cure...it really is so close at hand. Your life will be good.
clinical trials r going on right now , Im sorry they won't help yr dad. but those trials r for u so that u wont have to suffer your self! so rest assured that there r dr's working day & night So u live a healthy long & prosperous life, Don't put off med school They will find a cure in time for u your kids will live into their 80s with memories to tell their grandbabys!
My friends son is 21, his dad has early onset . He is in a trial for his kids & for u "You are not alone"
I am 16 years old and my 58 year old mother has been diagnosed with frontel lobe dementia for almost 2 years. I have experienced this disease before from my late grandparents having alzheimer's (which this is a branch of) and it was hard but with my mom having this... it is a lot to have to deal with. But yeah, anyways it's like you said ut won't get any easier, it will get worse through time. Which makes it that much tougher.
That will be how i remember her. I completly agree that few young people seem to understand unless they've had someone close who has it. Its 1 of the most difficult diseases to cope with and i admire your strength and courage :) thanks for making this
