Here in Brazil, some people call this kind of penalty kick the "Djalminha". But Panenka was the 1st!

@FalconPunch14 How old are you? It's Djalminha, named after the player. He played for Guarani, Palmeiras, Valencia, Seleção etc, and used to kick penaltys just like Panenka. The name "cavadinha" has also became popular for this type of kick in the last years. But, back in the 90's everybody used to call it the "Djalminha kick".

And I agree with you about his kick style in penaltys, but Djalminha kick was a weak shot in the middle, independently if it was in the high or in the low part of the goal... Today, everybody call it cavadinha. But I was wrong about asking where did you heard it, because it really was called that in the 90's.

@nuevatic1986 Someone must have kicked it like that before him but he had perfected the style for two years in the domestic league and then used it in the most important kick of his life. So I think it is fair to say he´s the father of this penalty. He was unlucky to have been born in communism. The players were not allowed to play abroad before the age of 33 years. I was a little boy when he moved from Bohemians Praha to Rapid Vienna - the two clubs played a friendly game in prague i was there

Odpovědět na toto video... I was crying coz he was leaving the club. Two years later in 1983 the club won its only title in history of Czech/czechoslovak league. The coach (Tomáš Pospíchal, he passed ball to Masopust in the World Cup Final in 1962 to give Czechoslovakia 1-0 lead for about one minute before Brazil equalized) said they could n´t win the title with Panenka. Panenka was a poet, an artist in his soul but the club needed fighters. If he were born in the west he ´d make fortune.

he goes around the country to talk about his life and the penalty and he needs the money. Not that he would be poor, but he definitely is not rich. Today, young talents they make more money just for signing a contractn with a German or Italian club than Panenka did in his lifetime. He scored a lot of goals for a midfielder. A very slow midfielder who couldn´t head the ball. He scored 17 goals in 59 games for national team. Nedved scored 18 in 91 games. But the two couldn´t be more different

In a book about his life he says he told to Ivo Viktor - the czech goalkeeper - he would do his penalty against germans if the match ends in draw. Viktor begged him not to do it! Nobody liked the idea but he was totally sure, he always says, he didn´t have a doubt. Imagine he wouldn ´t score, the people would make his life hellish. if he was English, they would call him Sir Antonín for scoring the decisive penalty in such a unique against the biggest rival of all. For me the kick is art

@PSNpod I am sure there were players who did it before Panenka. Did Postiga score it in the final? i am sure he didn´t coz i wanted the final to Portugal vs. Czech Rep. We had the best team in history, probably. They didn´t win or make it to the final but until the semis we won all games in qualification (except one draw in Holland) and all four games at the Euro: I was in Perú and the local people actually were supporting Czechs. Before the Euro every day they were printing a poster of a team

Other travellers also cheered for czechs, it was so nice, i felt so proud. We were just unlucky. We scored 10 goals in the for games at Euro before the semis but rosicky hit the post in the third minute, Nedved injured himself in 20th, Koller missed chances and they scored in the last minute of the first extra time-a new experimental rule

at euro 1996 we lost the final due to golden goal rule-it was also UEFA´s experiment. Greece never tried to cross the half line the whole 90 minutes. In extra time they started to play a bit. Zero shots on goal. They beat France by a header,then Czechs and Portugal the same way-1:0 scoring by header after corner kick. I was hoping for good attacking game Czechs vs. Portugal. But the final was bad. Portuguese were different that day.I don´t remember you guys having chances even thou you had time

we had zero time to make it 1:1. The coach wanted to change two players and decide in the 2nd extra time not wanting to risk penaltieS. iT WAS such a shock, one corner and scored. 2004 was for Czech fans a miracle, the team played to win and to dictate. You know usually people support underdogs but in 2004 no one supported Greece. So there are many differences between Panenka and Postiga´s penaties. Panenka was the first, he had the idea and the balls. Originality. and it won the GOLD :-)
