Not sure if I like the original cadenza and it feels as though those right hand high notes could be a little more stable. If you choose to play it that fast, you gotta be able to keep them stable and constant (though it seemed to have gotten better the further in). Everything else with, including the length of silence between chords in the beginning, are excellent and that is exactly how I would play them (perhaps with a SLIGHTLY shorter space (but that's just being overly picky, isn't it)).
WoW very good performance! I know 11 pages out of 18 from this piece, and I play them with a very fast on my keyboard, I wish I had a piano :P, I LOVE THIS piece, RIP Liszt
@WarperBlade if you begin thinking that way, indeed your hopes are doomed.
It has to be a motivation for you. I'm sure Paolo Marzocchi would be disapointed if he learnt his amaising skills doomed someone's hopes.
by the way, Liszt's are some of the most difficult ones ever created.
I personally play piano for only 4 years, I know I won't even be able to play it in 10-15 years, but never give up music. keep hope and play other pieces. train your technique, and years later... play!

The only word that comes to mind is brilliant. He is not only feeling the music but so obviously enjoying playing it as well, a small detail that is missing in so many performers who simply play it because it is a job. That emotion carries over in the watching of this video.
I also enjoyed his twist at the end. Not to mention he starts out with that slight hold on the notes at the beginning which in my opinion either makes or breaks the piece. Some may like the short cut off version but not me.
So I'm not a trained musician at all. Don't piano players usually have sheet music they look at? I'm not seeing it so he is doing this all by memory? Sweet lord...
I recognized where the cadenza came in but I do not understand what you mean by "original" liszt left it up for individual pianists to improvise did he not? Did he actually write an original cadenza?
@nobull89 AHHH of course, god what a brain fart moment haha. I was so confused because this cadenza might be the best I've heard and yet I have never heard any other pianists play it.
