  • Welcome to my world.

Guilt upon accusation; ill-conceived legislation rushed into law in the name of protection; punitive 3 strikes frenzy. It all sounds familiar.

I hope the Activists use their brief reprieve until 27 March constructively.

In the meantime I stumbled on this groups_layout?name=UTB a YT group called Under The Bridge that says they are anti-censorship. So maybe you could put them to the test and post this video there.

Is that Stephen Fry the English actor you're talking about?

  • Indeed it is Stephen Fry. I don't think I really do anything in this video that would test ani-censorship principles do I?

  • Well that's impressive that the issue has spread so far beyond the shores of the Land of the Long White Cloud. I'll add another notch to my Fry admiration broom-handle.

I think your video challenges the propose censorship law - obviously.

Sorry, I did not express myself clearly. What I meant (with my limited knowledge of what a YouTube group does) was that you could test if your video would fit in there amongst their other censorship related concerns. Hopefully it wouldn't be a difficult test.

  • that weird noise is a car burn-out( tire squeel and then the reving)

i will check out the page JUST because i wanna save puppies!!!

no but seriously, that really sux...hard

i am tempted to do a little nelson (from simpsons) and say HA ha while pointing and commenting on that sort of thing being the downside of first world countries but my country is fucked with or without net banning so i wont...XD

  • There are measures people can take, and doubtless the nefarious and enterprising among the citizenry will do so. But it's a sad state of affairs when creatives wanting to operate on a c21st level are forced to skulk in the shadows and rub shoulders with no-goodniks in order to function.

Also, it's not even about whether or not one has Internet access so much as whether one lives in a country in which possible criminals are presumed innocent and judged by their peers.

  • I completely understand you. i even felt like disappointment in your words...

we all would want to live in a state that's near perfection and created by our imaginations just tell me where to sign if it were that easy : )

  • Would that I lived in the wild and free frontier Mexico of my imagination!

  • just stay away from imagining the northern border of Juarez where the police chief was forced to resign after the demand of the criminal threat to kill a policeman every 48 hours worked its way into the week.

I know someone who recommends Cancun. I'm imagining my way there now. I'm just having trouble dreaming up the proper attire.

  • How are wasps these days? In the same mag I referred to earlier, there was a big cull of these creatures around Golden Bay. It would seem they too have problems with government restrictions although other species will no doubt be relieved.

  • You know my thoughts here, Phili4p. All God's creatures are worthy of respect and dignity except the wasp. Even Reagan would have agreed Government is allowed to infringe on the right of the wasp.

  • Totally on board with this. I just heard about the new law yesterday after arriving back in NZ, and it sickened me. I was chatting to my brother (who works for an ISP) about it, and the truth is that if you are clever enough, you can still download and avoid losing your internet. I would explain in more detail, but I only have 500 characters, so I guess it ends with that.

  • Yeah, but I'd hate for "a discussion on how to reform the law" to turn into "a discussion on how to break the law", so we best talk about other things.

I've been enjoying your Twitters from parts distant. I hope returning to NZ isn't too much of a culture shock.

  • You are right, better to amend a shit law than to break it.

The return has not been so much a culture shock as a weather shock. It's so hot!

  • Like most laws which are rushed in without fair democratic debate, Guilt Upon Accusation Laws are the result of so called 'function creep'. What will our governments do next if we the people do not make a stand and say 'enough is enough.' Young people out there, I say it is not good enough to say "Oh i can't be bothered to vote because politics is boring and all parties are as bad as each other anyway." Use your vote or lose it!

  • Excellently said, sir!

  • i agree with your eloquence!

  • I recently read in an Australia & New Zealand magazine that NZ's political system very much mirrors that of England. If that is so God help you because here in England our civil liberties and freedom of speech are being relentlessly curtailed by a government which appears hell-bent on thought control and the power of snoop.

  • I noticed the blackout on twitter a few days ago , but then everone seemed to forget about it, ( the teenagers) which I found sad, I honestly didn't see what my blackout picture would do to help.

  • Yeah, that's why I didn't join in. I agreed with the message but the medium seemed really faddy.
