The show was an intentional throwback to classic scare comedies that the Three Stooges and Abbott & Costello used to do. Tucker & Storch were as good a team as ever, and Bob Burns' "Tracey" was great.
Dear God, what nostalgic memories this brings back! I watched this as a kid back in 1975 (I was 6 years old). Yeah, sure, as an adult I can see how people say how cheesy it is. But back as a 6 year old kid, this really appealed to me. I loved how it starred Larry Storch and Forrest Tucker from F Troop (another one of my favorite sitcoms, then and now), the gorilla, the old car they drove around in, the ghost busting theme of the show (as I loved ghost stories), and the overall comedy. Fun show!
i loved this show when i was a kid. loved shazam and isis too.loved the kroftt supershow too.wished theyd bring back stuff like this or at least rerun it.
To jesup25: And that's why you're a total idiot and your mother has disowned you, and whatever kids you've convinced to call you "Dad". This came out in 1975 and your precious movie came out over five years later. Go snuggle up with a photo of Bill Murray, and please don't smudge it too much.
hahaha my dad used to have a vhs box set of this when I was wwaay little, I barely remembered it but I remember this one! thought I was nuts thinking it was ghostbusters but it was!
@Mattleycrue66 Yeah I remember it but I think it was when the boys went up to "that big castle on the other side of town" where the ghosts always lived later on in this episode.
I love the old comedians...but this stilted gag has been done much better before and not dragged out so long...I just happen to think Larry Storch is funnier in "F-Troop".
if i were you i would try to snap this and any of the other filmation titles because in december, bci eclipse went out of business and so all of the filmation titles including the ghost busters are now out of print.
OH MY GOD...I am really showing my age. I remember watching this on saturday mornings along with "Ark II", "Captain Marvel", and "Speed Buggy". Those were the days...3 Full Hours of B Bunny also. Thanks for sharing.

I went to a video store that had a bunch of moldy old VHS tapes that looked like they'd been there since 1986. I saw this TV show on the shelf. I was confused as all hell and only kinda understood because I remember the Ghostbusters cartoon with the gorilla from my childhood. But I didn't know that cartoon was based on this show.
Anyways, this show sucks worse that anything you can imagine. Even the special effects are the worst. DO NOT EVEWR BUY THIS SHOW!! I'm warning you. It's BAD!
They were not "ripped off". Ramis, Akryod, and Murray paid them the rights to use the Ghostbusters title for the film. When the film was a smash hit, filmation made that horrid Ghostbusters cartoon, which is why the ghost busting series made in honor of the movie was called "The Real Ghostbusters".
I think that was their idea of a joke. The gorilla wasn't called Kong as you would obviously expect and the game given to one of the human characters. What does "Spencer Tracy" have to do with King Kong I'll never know.
Okay, so this has (As MST3K called him) the guy who reminds the trees to tuck in their shirts, the guy from "G-Spot"...wait, I mean "F-Troop" and Bob Burns in a gorilla suit yet again. And it's Vaudeville Phantom? Man, the seventies were crazy...
I remember Bob Burns ALWAYS being in a gorilla suit, so him being Tracy shouldn't surprise anyone, but hey, the man is a legend and a natural treasure.
Actually, remember when he had a segment on a Sci-Fi channel newsmagazine called "Bob's Basement" where he would show off his collection? I remember him most from that, actually. :)
i loved this show all the time. Even the fact that they went to the same castle every week made me laugh. And I loooooved Tracy the gorilla! Hilarious!
The files scene in the movie must've been an homage. I'll watch the movie closely next time I see it for more. (Maybe a photo of actor Spencer Tracy?) Hey, Gozer was acting like King KONG wasn't he???
Gee! I remember this! It was Spencer's eternal battle with those archives! Thank you for posting this!

Filmations Ghost (space bar) Busters , would make a great video game...
Padata3000 11 months ago
Columbia Pictures paid a licensing fee to Filmation to use the name "GhostBusters" for their 1984 movie. Just to clear that up.
That said, wow, this show is pretty cheesy, even by 70s standards. Like...
ctrabs74 1 year ago
@ctrabs74 Well, it was a show for young children, so either the cheesiness was intentional, or the writers were really bored. ;-)

yeah that's why the movie ghostbusters is known by a WHOLE lot more people than this rip off
jesup25 2 years ago
I remember this when it was all new, it was not a bad idea or cast, they simply lacked money so it came across as a televised Vaudville skit.
MrGarath 2 years ago 2
would you post more pls? i loved this as a kid!

I love Larry Storch but man is the material here bad. "F-Troop" this is not.

This is classic vaudeville routines. I take it you don't like many of the old comedians.
