@hopkins4545 I in no way support polygamy and pedophilia. However, cheating on spouses is very wide-spread in our society, and no one goes after the cheaters and calls them all kinds of names. Pedophilia is always sick and wrong, and it, too, is very wide-spread in our society. It seems what is happening with this group is no worse than in our society in general, so why attack them as if other people were not perpetrators of the same evils?
Odd that one girl complains & the troops move in - what about the thousands/houndreds? of throw away boys who are forced out on the streets becouse there are too many boys.
Str- you're EXTREMELY misinformed re: flds-only dealing w/ what was shown on tv- FAR from whole story. after @ 3500 hours research, I assure you, you have shallow view of this- what happens in flds, amount of shocking evidence seen, heard by cps, police, others, so great they did a by=the-book sweep of most vulnerable. Authorities held @ gate for hours before getting in. Sister-you're another misinformed bleeding heart. VAST # of ex-flds THRILLED @ raid, want more intervention!
I see where you're coming from but honestly I really don't agree with you. Are you by any chance a supporter of NAMBLA? That wouldn't surprise me. It makes sense to accept all races, cultures, religions (no matter how idiotic and superstitious), etc. as long as people are not being hurt. However, when over 400 children are brought into this world and raised in a community in which practices of polygamy and statutory rape are occurring. Some laws don't make sense, but laws against polygamy do.
Polygamy and statutory rape are two different things. I think when anything is forced, then it should be dealt with. If the young girls CHOOSE to be mothers and wives then it's fine. Although, you couldn't know what goes on there.
Amen. The legal system has so little sensitivity to family issues, and the default responses tend to one of 2 extremes: Ignore it and pretend not to notice, or invade like warriors and yank everything apart. If they would involve practicioners with family psychology experience, they could better determine some gentler course of action, and perhaps individually tailored per family.
The investigations into Waco did not show fire bombing. The Branch Davidians were opening gunfire on the police too, don't forget that. The fire appeared to have started from the inside and they were an apocolyptic sect....
Militaristic is a very good word for what happened. The propaganda tactics used against these people by CPS and Media are almost Hitler like. They wanted to take the children because they fully intended to break up this religion they don't approve of. It's actually frightening, if the authorities can treat these people that way then we are all in danger.
I would take exception with your statement that the children are not in "better places" and the implication foster homes are not a good place. Texas, on the whole, has excellent foster homes. The system is extremely broken and needs, not of repair, but reinvention.
What has been done to these children is a travesty. After having been sharply rebuked by the apellate court the state is now appealing says they are more concerned about covering their flank than what is best for the children.
It's very refreshing to hear such a thoughtful take on what "we" are doing to those kids. Most people I talk to can't get past "they're polygamists" or "they're brainwashed" or "they talk funny". I worked out some figures earlier today. The national teen pregnancy rate for 15-17 year-olds was about 0.08% in 2002. Based on the new numbers from court, the FLDS rate is only 0.02%. If "we" weren't so busy being as xenophobic as "they" are, we might actually be able to see things in perspective.
imjinc2k, you seem to have some percentages although how many of the national teen pregnancy rate girls are forced into these pregnancies with old men and to there uncle george or cousin larry? Im not saying your wrong, Im saing there might be more to your facts to look at. Thanks
I'm afraid the only way we as Americans can stop supporting this militaristic abuse is a regime change. 9/11 was an inside job, involving the military, media, and government officials and it was to frighten people into submitting to the destruction of the constitution. It was a silent coup over the USA. We all need to stop paying taxes until they run out of money to fund their military. Did you see the armoured tank that said "Sheriff" when they took the kids? Now the police are military?
I 100% agree w/you except for an alternative is to arrest the dads. That`s not a solution. We can`t go in & arrest the men based on a phony phone call. Kids need both their moms & dads & from what I heard on Larry King yesterday underage marriage isn`t the norm in this group so not everyone there is guilty yet everyone there even the innocent are being horribly punished in a very Nazi style fashion. Babies that are just being born are being taken away w/out the mom even being given a chance.
You are right: I did not mean all the men, but find out who the men are who are taking the young girls as their mates, and prosecute them according to the law.
Who care about the religious preferance , the real issues is over 400 children and now traumatized . Were anyone of these specific children abused all i seen was a spotless home with extremely well behaved intelligent children eating good meals and being loved by their mothers and siblings , perhaps their way of life we cant understand but the children were well cared for prove the abuse ,now thses children are placed in abroken system wwhere more sexual abuse happens daily then out of care
The reason they took the children is because they could have been in more danger if left there. There are suspicions of child abuse, rape and verbal and physical abuse. I don't think any judgments should be made yet because we don't know everything that went on at the ranch. If it turns out the government was wrong then they'll pay for it. Does it not seem like a good idea to remove children when any possibilty of harm could come to them?
pastel, we can`t remove children based on suspicions. Removing children is a lifetime, emotionally scarring experience for a child. It`s horrific so if we care about children we can`t treat them like that. We need solid facts before removing any child. How can the government pay back the damage they`ve done to these lives? It`s not that whimsical and simple. Lives have been traumatized & all security has been removed from these children`s lives. Siblings have been separated and scatterd.
What happened was immoral, illegal and unconstitutional.
When I think of those young women who are pregnant and being forced to give birth away from their own mothers and supports systems, I cry for them. How can we justify such actions?
It's nothing short of the age-old state-fostered crime of religious persecution.
Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
This is what America has become: a slave-making nation that imprisons more people than any other nation in the world -- a hateful nation that takes children away from loving families and puts them in a failed foster care system -- a repressive nation with standing armies of police who beat and kill people and get away with it.
I am most concerned about the desacration of the temple. I do not condone the reported sexual activity of the group, however, once we turn our heads to one temple invasion our own sanctuaries became unsafe.
So you are saying that the state should have left it unsearched simply because it holds regligious significance? Rigghhht, then you are going to have child molesters hiding behind the shield of religion...
Oh wait thats a little late...
Catholic priests and FLDS followers... if anything these incidences dictate that religious edifices should be held to a higher standard, and if they have nothing to hide what does it matter if an officer pokes around?
our own sanctuaries are open to everyone who would wish to come in - that's the difference - there is no need to keep anything a secret - aka the bed in which girls were forced to have sex with their adult husbands while being watched by another to make sure the act happened - or is it so that it was done in front of God...?
As much as you might state that the women are victims, they are also continuing the cycle of abuse. If the state had allowed the women to remain with the children, the mothers would have just coached the children to lie to CPS and nothing would be found out. Also due to the lack of Birth and marriage certificates at this time the state does not have enough together to press charges against the men. So the only option was taking the children into custody- WITHOUT their mothers.
In the sense that they agreed to the whole arrangement of giving the young girls to the older men as "wives", yes. But in terms of who benefited from those arrangements, the women were likely as much victims as their children. Should they therefore agree to allowing their children to be victimized, too? Ideally, no. But they truly did believe it was right and that they had no rights to say no. It is all a sad situation.
with this argument you can argue that if a pedifile was abused as a child it's not their fault so therefore their children should be returned to them. Abuse is abuse is abuse you even said that they "agreed to the whole arrangement" therefore they were agreeing with the abuse - who's to say if you left them with their mothers they wouldn't teach them the same values and continue the cycle of abuse? your logic here is flawed
I agree that abuse is abuse, and adults who allow others to abuse children carry culpability too. And we also need to see that taking the children in this manner is another form of abuse, this time done by the state. Any which way, the kids get the raw end of the deal. And how much more abuse will they suffer in foster care? The stats are not good...
tiss true abouse IS abuse and the state of texas is the number one abuser in my book.....terrorizing over four hundred children and their mother goes beyound any abuse I have witnessed.....
Yes arrest the men but the government knows better than that. These men WORK , they are highly skilled, and pay a lot of taxes. now they are going to pay more, after all, they can not use the kids as deductions. They pay close to a million dollars in real estate taxes alone. Did you know that these men have construction companies, and even military contracts? (precision wheels and brakes) There is money to be made in raids for kids, not men.

Please take the time to learn what a pedophile is. They have no interest in children past puberty, so that isn't what is going on here.
