  • You know, half-way through this, I can only think, "THEN LET THE FUCKING BIRDS GO!!!"

  • The only thing I dislike about this song is the vibrato, it irritates me, but otherwise my second favourite song!

  • My favourite Sweeney Todd track. The change from minor (sad) to major (happy) scale at the beginning, the emulation of birds' sounds using woodwind section. And the modulation (change of scale) at 1:11 and the massive sounding orchestra at 1:03. It gives me series of never-ending goosebumps every time!

  • Her voice is so perfect for this song. i've heard so many other versions and their voices are too strong and hers is so soft and innocent but beautiful at the same time. She was born to play Johanna I swear...

  • this is my audition song for my high school's musical this spring... and two days before my audition is a vocal competition, so my vocal teacher won't let me work on this song as much :P even though it's the hardest... ah well. I hope I can do well anyways.. :/

  • @wonderstar711 good luck x

  • AnnaLunaTts - captain obvious being obvious.

  • So beautiful, and sad...

  • Does anyone have the sheet music to this?

  • @naritchi I DOooooOo

  • Someone should this for a talent show.

  • I always picture Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas singing this. She and Johannah are so alike--both prisoners in their own homes. Tim Burton, get out of my head!

  • This and by the sea are the only movie versions I prefer to the originals.

  • I can sing this... easily

  • Good looks and a nice voice run in the Barker family. :D

  • i played Johanna for Alevel Practical :) fav song ever <3

  • :'3

  • she's has a very pretty voice :) it doesn't sound strong but still it's innocent and sweet. like Joanna :3

  • Most beautiful soprano voice I've ever heard.

  • @mrsaah7 Better than snowwhite?!

  • I always get goosebumps at 0:27-0:30

  • This song is a mixture of creepy and innocent. It's beautiful :) I love it.

  • Her voice is so gorgeous! The only thing really is that she doesn't have a very strong vibrato. But whatever! It's still lovely!

  • Her voice sounds sooo familiar!! But I just can't place where I've heard it before.

  • @kanoagirl1 I'm pretty sure she was the best friend in the movie version of the Phantom of The Opera.

  • @dittoroxursox1o1 That was Jennifer Ellison who played meg.

  • @dittoroxursox1o1

Was she really?! The blonde girl right?

  • @kanoagirl1 no, she wasn't. Looks like her, and sounds like her. But the girl who plays Joanna is too young to be the friend from The Phantom of The Opera remake.

  • @MysticMydsummerMoon

Ooooh, okayy. Do you have any idea who she is??

  • @kanoagirl1 Her name is Jayne Wisener. Go to IMDB to check her list of movie credits.

  • I will fall for any girl who can sings like this. ughhhhhh enchanted~!

  • @Alcrece lol really?

  • By far the most beautiful and melancholy song in all of Sweeney Todd. Jayne Wisener performed her role as Johanna Barker flawlessly. And her singing? Sure this may sound cliche, but she seriously has the voice of an angel.

  • You don't need to fly because you can SING! Bella!

  • Gotta love the violins.

  • Unfortunately, this isn't the "Full Song" as labeled. It's the movie version, which is missing the original middle stanza...

  • Oy, if I tried to sing this in the same key and pitch, I would pro'bly pop a vocal cord or something. XP

  • beautiful :3

  • this girl at my school sang this song for our school play and she sounded like snow freakin white...she sounds just as good as this and it was literally like amazing. out loud I was just like ....holyyy shitt!

  • @TheKAKASHInaruto Actually, now that I think about it, she's probably a dramatic soprano, sorry =]

  • @Kozzi42 hehe ok thanks :)

  • @Kozzi42 I think you have it mixed up, a dramatic soprano is closer to a mezzo-soprano because of the tessitura of a dramatic soprano is heavier and robust, but can execute high notes more comfortably than a mezzo-soprano. I say she's a lyrical since her tessitura is youthful, but not weak.

  • Her crescendo vibrato is a little annoying, and her voice does get a tiny bit shrill, but otherwise, yes, she is really good.

  • @TheKAKASHInaruto She's most likely a coloratura. (I'm one, too!) Johanna is supposed to be played by a lyric soprano or higher (next being dramatic and then coloratura).

  • when ever I hear this song I can't help but wonder if it's the chimpmunk version... seriously how the hell is it possibly to hit that note?!

  • She's not really asking to be taught to sing, I think. I think the real meaning is more that she wants to know how the birds can keep singing when they're locked up and she wants to know the secret of how they can keep singing when all she can think of is getting out.

  • @AnnaLunaTtS

You have one the internet! Congrats! *thumbs up*

  • @evidpeed1

    won*

  • @AnnaLunaTtS Yes. It's exactly that. She's wondering, "You're locked up and can't go anywhere. But you are not miserable because you are singing joyfully. How do you do it? Because if I never get out of here, then I want to know how to make myself happy as you do for youself." It's a beautiful song. :)

  • @AnnaLunaTtS

lol, the birds could take a lesson or two from her singing :D

  • @AnnaLunaTtS hit the nail on the head there :) also I love the fact that very basically the song is in admiration of nature. A birds song is something we link very closely to the natural world as well as innocence . Johanna admires the bird for its song, showing she appreciates these things. Where as Judge Turpin in contrast values very crooked and immoral human constructs, such as wealth and in those days the legal system. Not really a point to be made just a nice thought I think :)

  • @AnnaLunaTtS The irony is that she sings it :)

  • @DrBob66 well when she means singing it's a metaphor for how they can remain cheerful and happy.

  • wow so high!:O

  • yeah she has that high soprano voice that sort of pinched, but its a good sounding voice. shes really good.

  • If I cannot fly let me siiiiiing :)

  • sounds just like the bird, i love that effect. <3

  • No bird needs to teach her how to sing... shes amazing.

  • sheeee is AMAZINGGGG!!!!

  • I love this song

  • I think her vibrato is that way because it is as if she's singing like the birds.

  • her voice is so amazing!

  • such an amazing voice this girl has. Gives me goosebumps listening to her sing!!

  • i reely like her voice. in my opinion, she controlled the vibratto very well. u all must understand she had to sound like a 15 year old girl so how she sings represents how young and innocent she is.

  • I accualy agree with this.

One of the first things I noticed was how forced her vibrato sounded.

but I do think this is still a great song though.

  • thank you! at least one person here is intelligent enough to realize when singing is bad. we must be the only people with ears here.

  • boooo!!!!

  • I don't really think there's any need to put other peoples opinions down in such a way. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion. As I point out, I don't totally agree with you either, I still do like the song.

  • OMG I love this so much!!!!! Johnny Depp is sooooooooooo hot and this movie is the bom diggity dog

  • @CaptainChocolatte absolutely reminds me of Disney's Snow White, especially at 1:36-1:41

  • She has such an amazing voice!

  • I've been listening to other singer try out this song and so far, they havn't touched her. Shes beyond talented!

  • Flawless o.o

I consider even hearing such a genuinly pure voice like that a blessing.

    *_*

  • shes a beautiful enchanting singer...wow

  • Just curious . . .what song was it that you sang in class, because I came close to singing Have a little Priest in church.

  • I love this song.. it gives me goose bumps :)

  • how can she hit that pitch, it is amazing! she sings this song beautifully.

  • "Green finch and linnet bird, nightingale, blackbird. How is it you sing?" That part is stuck in my head and I keep singing it! lol I love this song!

  • I KNOW!!!! All the songs are stuck in my head. I almost started sing "Perelli's Miracle Elixer" in class the other day. It was kinda sad. This movie is too good, that's the problem!!!!

  • You were lucky. I DID sing it while I was in class.

  • Wow. Bet you got some weird looks for that one. :) I know if I did that, my teacher would tell me to shut up.

  • I started singing this on the bus. XD Luckily no one could hear me. o3o

...Then I sang Epiphany because I actually know that one. XD Kind of sad, really. *shot*

  • i wish i was a soprano. :(
