  • <D

    Down Below The Street

    i was just a kid

  • whoa, i literally haven't seen this in years, and randomly found it just now, but it feels like i just saw it last week. aahh, early 90s childhood...

  • I'm 22 years old, haven't seen Sesame Street in two decades, and while in the process of packing to move this song randomly popped into my head and I have no idea WHY after all these years, surprised I even remembered it let alone had i pop into my head, so I had to come find it! LOL I miss these silly songs

  • This is Force MD's if I'm not mistaken.

  • @leoconvoy : Thanks for the info. I knew they looked familiar but I could never put my finger on who they were.

  • wow...i'm 27 and this song brings nothing but a big smile of nostalgia to my face, lol. whenever I come to watch this video, i ALWAYS play it at least 3 times haha, i'm such a big kid, but i miss those times

  • Down below the street...

Can you dig the steady beat, it's a SUUUUBWAAAAY!

  • (: Good Times! :)

  • WHAT.NEVER MIND THATS NOT TAKE SIX

  • wow.IS THAT TAKE SIX?

  • wow.IS THET TAKE SIX?

  • What a wonderful way to learn what's below the street:)

  • One of my kids heard this when he was three and went crazy about "down b'wow wheet". We couldn't walk past a grating or water meter without his taking a look, and he went crazy when he saw a crew working on a manhole. Once I said, "You could have that job when you grow up", and one of the crew said, "The last time someone pointed me out to their kid, it was to say, 'Study hard or you'll wind up like him'." I told him we respect the people who keep civilization going at our house.

  • @doctorpsycho1960 people like you are really the only ones that give me any hope in humanity... there are so many people out there who take waste workers, window washers, painters, custodians, construction workers, landscapers etc. for granted even though they're the ones who work really hard for our needs/conveniences. Great to know some people out there still actually appreciate the HARD work they do!

  • @ZenDeividdo

I would say that the lesson that you spelled out for us was very well demonstrated in "Animal Farm"! Any thoughts anyone?

  • @Smartboy8877 Whoa... I haven't read that book in ages; thanks for the excellent observation! Now that I think of it, what I posted reminds me of when Major said his dying words at the very beginning. I wasn't even thinkin' about that at the time. I gotta see if I still have my copy of it; it was such an excellent read (even though it's super-short.)

  • @ZenDeividdo

You are right about "Animal Farm" being super-short! It is less than a hundred pages. In any event, thank you for your insightful response!

  • i don't mean to bring race into it, but one of the things that i really appreciate was that soooo many talented and respected black people have appeared on the program thus children grow up with a balanced view of other ethnic groups. this show reached an international audience in a way other programs dont...all kids programs today could follow sesame streets example.

  • @Alliworks So true. People are quick to say that minority kids need to have role models who "look like them", but I think it's actually a bigger benefit to children of the dominant group to learn, from an early age, to take it for granted that talented and authoritative people might be of any race or background.

  • this guys would sound awesome if they sung "Come and go with me" by the Del Vikings

  • 8-year old Stephanie Tsoflias used to watch Sesame Street.

  • It's not Take 6. It is not their style, it's harmonically far less complex and it's 5 people, none of whom are members of Take 6.

  • @philcornwell Three words for you: 14 Karat Soul.

  • I always had, and always will love that number! That song was one of my favorites!

  • I remember finding this so boring because they'd repeat it so much,.. but it's so memorable XD

  • When I first saw this skit when I was very young, in the beginning of the skit, I thought all five of them were going to fall down into the open sewer because I thought they were just taking a walk and not watching where they were going, and all of a sudden, I thought they were going to fall down into the open sewer and get hurt.

  • Comment removed

  • So if these guys are not take 6, as you say. Then tell me, who are they?

  • Well clearly they are not Take 6 because there is only five guys..duh!

  • But there's only 5 of them.

  • Hmm, I think one of the member is probely absent. I remember seeing the information on The Sesame Street Lyrics Archive. BTW, Catchy tune. And I give it five stars.

  • Take 6 wore more dignified clothing, these guys are wearing hip, street clothes.

  • @jonnytbirdzback It really isn't Take 6. It's not their style, it's harmonically far less complex and none of the 5 members of this group are in Take 6. It's still pretty cool though

  • @BuddyBoy600 Thats definitely not Take6. Its not their style of arrangement and none of their members are in the video

  • this song is da bomb!! haven't heard it since i was sooo little. i love it.

  • I wonder if this would've been better with music.

  • This is so crazy I have to share it - when I was a toddler, I had a whole ritual based on this song: My mom would dry me off after a bath while singing "Baby of mine" from Dumbo, whereupon i would ask as if I didn't know, "Where does the water go??", to which she would over-enthusiastically reply, "DOWN, DOWN, BELOW THE STREET!!!" and shake me around like a snow globe. Yes, EVERY SINGLE TIME. Crazy, but true. And the fact that my parents indulged me made me who I am....whatever THAT means....

  • Cute story!!

  • I have to agree with Evertide05.

I've been lookin for this song for effing EVER! God, I love it!

  • So glad that this has finally been uploaded. I still know most of the lyrics..lol
