I remember sitting in a parking lot at the headwaters of the Mississippi River in Minnesota. I was looking at the thin stand of groundcover on the planted islands in the lot. I was puzzled about the type of mulch they were using. When I got out of the car to check I discovered the mulch was actually nothing but cigarette butts.

Yeah, nothing like a nice stroll along the beach with a pack o' smokes, a pre-package sandwich, and a plastic bottle of soda to get in tune with nature...too bad the "lazy S.O.B.s" are also so self-involved that they could care less about even trying to keep the beach clean for others.

i can't even begin to explain how frustrating it is dealing with these lazy SOBs. we've even distributed donated empty film cannisters for the neaderthals to use. but its not about throwing them out while using the beach. people who just toss their cig, often still lit, on the sidewalk/road, ignorant of how they eventually wind up on our beaches. force your elected officials to make law enforcement actually enforce the no littering laws and fine the guilty $100. talk about instant revenue.
