What is is that gives the WRX that unique sound? They almost sound like the timing is off, but obviously, that's not it. Either way, it's my second favorite sound behind a GM 60* V6.
@mgospeed31 Unequal Length headers (UEL). The driver side port wraps around the front of the oil pan to join with the passenger side port then to the turbo. The N/A Subies have an aftermarket one that runs the complete opposite (have one and love it!) then to the cat. The JDM V8's have Equal length that sounds like ass IMO. BTW the 2.8's did have a unique sound too. My sonoma has 2.8 V6 a 2.5 exhaust w/ a flowmaster on it. Sounds good but it will sound better after a LSX swap.
@xCaptainAroniousx: its a shorter pipe dude,. instead of a longer pipe that goes under the passenger right wheel . the pipe is shorter plus the filter can breath better. what vehicle do you drive.
@splicerslayer129 Subaru technology uses a boxer engine in all of their vehicles. If you upgrade the exhaust this sound is what you would consider "Boxer Rumble"
how is the drone with this exhaust?? just got an 04 STI and want to do a TBE and I don't mind loud cause this engine sounds amazing but drone pisses me off........how is it and can you keep this exhaust quiet during normal driving and highway driving?
@lilstahlly22 Well with my 07 TR, I have a catless 4in downpipe, gutted hi flo cat, and 3in custom midpipe with no axle back (cannot decide if I want a cannon or straight pipe yet) and it drones pretty bad around 2000k when I'm cruising in 4th. It kinda hurts my temples honestly. Other than that, I NEVER have a drone problem. I have a vid or two of my subbies exhaust if you wanna check it out.
yea i had to take out a pretty good loan for this one, but the exhaust is fully catless and resonatorless... and i almost got a bugeye wagon (5spd) at one point but i didnt have the money and taking a loan out didnt even cross my mind
It's an excellent sounding exhaust, but I do agree that the fart cannon look is kinda put-offish.

So, I like how Evo's look more (03-06 models), but Sti's sound insanely more beastly and amazing. The boxer rumble is nasty!
