  • How do I put cover art with my movies on the server? and can I stream movies from mediasmart server to my samsung tv that is connected to the same network

  • 9:18 pissed off Blum.

  • I have a question, if i have 4 TB in this server and i set it that it duplicate the files will it duplicate on every hard drive? Or can i set it so it only duplicate the files from disk A to disk B or how does it work? Can i set it so it only duplicate every file once so i only have 2 tb of storage from the 4 tb?

Thx best review i found !!!

  • @LauwereysM The default setting is that there will be two copies of each thing on two different drives. It picks the drives on its own.

  • I have always hated HP.

    Horrible company in my opinion.

  • Can you steam videos remotely? For instance, let say i am at my friends house and we want to watch video from my WHS. So is it possible for the server to steam the movie instead of me downloading the video first on my friend's pc?

  • @822437 yes

  • What is the advantage of this verses my 3 computers running through a router? Thanks

  • @nictycaram This is not a replacement for a router. It's a server with centralized storage for the computers on your network.

  • @sciguy14 Thanks for the reply, sounds good.

  • Please help.

I run a website, and I want people to upload files to this website.

Is this used for that? Can I link the upload form to this server?

  • If you run a website, you must have webspace... Have people upload to that. This is a HOME server, it won't work to well for remote uploads, especially if you have a dynamic IP.

  • Ok, thank you.

Do you have any ones that are good for remote uploads, that you would recommend?

  • @Reqrezentin godaddy and 1and1 both offer cheap hosting plans

  • do you know if you can pull the stock drive and put 4 2tb drives in it? can you do that? i think it wood a grate way to store Bluerays so u can watch them on your home network.

  • Yes, you can replace the drives.

  • I have the first MediaSmart Server (EX475)...It does the job, is it worth it to upgrade to a EX495? If so, Why? Thanks...

  • Don't Upgrade, the Steep price won't get you too much more. But consider buying more RAM for your 475.

  • @sciguy14

    Thanks...

  • Hi I've got a question about the HP Home server; I'm thinking about purchasing one but I'm mainly wanting to use it to run a gaming server on it, can you access the server via Remote Desktop Control on Windows? and so when you connect to it can you run .exe applications on it? Hope you'll reply.

  • yes and yes. It is based on Windows Server 2003

  • yes

  • This is an excellent review. I think it's about time microsoft came out with something good. The best feature I like about the home server is the ability to add and remove drives on the fly. HP really hit it on the nail when they added Mac features like iTunes and time machine integration. That's what sold me right there. Thanks for the info.

  • You can't use a mac to setup the device.

  • I really need a media solution. I have two external hard drives (500gb and 120gb) that I use to store lots of movie and music files. I access them through my laptop with only 2 usb ports. So whenever I want to connect, I have to get up and plug in cords all the time. I also use my content on my ps3, I watch my movies through it. But I have to go back and forth hooking things up that way too. Not to mention I need more hard drive space. How do you think this product could help me?

  • Store all your media on a server like this one. It should stream to your PS3.

  • Wait...

    No VGA or DVI ports?

How do i go about purging the windows filth and installing linux instead?!

  • Do it over the network.

  • im sorry i don't know anything about servers, what does it do?

  • Backups your computers, file repository, serves media...

  • Are you guy's brothers. Damn I didn't notice.

  • I think this is what I'm looking for. Instead of going with the more expensive servers like kaliedescape or fusion the hp server seems to fit the bill. I want to store all of my dvd videos on the server. Also, I would like to stream the dvds to for televisions. Is it possible? What media recievers (upnp) are best for this. I would like for each family member to watch movies independantly ex. daughter in room watching brats movie, son in his room watching spiderman.

  • I use the Xbox as a media extender and it works well.

  • those guys look fucking identical im scared

  • Nice job with the review. You guys do a great job!

  • I bet you guys have to fight the women away with a stick?

  • Whats wrong with you people this is a good comment!

  • Women love smart guys these days. That is why I was telling my pals that I bet they get tons of women.

  • the biggest single HDD is 2TB this days so with 4 thats only 8TB? you said this supports 9TB max?

  • There is an e-sata port on the back of the device.

  • ernie and bert., lol.

  • Nice review. I like the bloopers.

  • as u may know we are all not intelligently gifted like me, ssoooooooooo , wtf is a homeserver?

    ps: "oh $hit its ex487"

  • Its a central repository for all the backups and media in your home.

  • I can't abide "double finger pointing".

I like this Padawan learner video.

    You guys are

  • Nice, such a server would simplify my life, instead of just turning my aging computer into a server when I build my next computer :).

  • its working out nicely...

  • are u twins

  • I'm three years older.

  • lol,,, which one lmao, , , same with my bro lol, im 3 yrs older, , , how do u like ur server so far, ,

  • The server is great, I'm Jeremy, the older one.

  • "Will you please stop wasting my film." ...lol nice review & you guys do look very similar.

  • Great review!

  • why not just get 2x samsung spinpoint f1 1tb that cost £66

  • lol because samsung HDDS are terrible. Also because you don't have an option of what HDDS to use it comes with them than if you want you can swap them out or add more. But, Segate barracudas are some of the best HDDS out there.

  • Because the samsung hard drives suck. What I have found by experience is that the best brands of hard drives are Western Digital and Seagate. Beware with the seagate 1TB+ hard drives though, with some reviews on other sites I have seen that they have a firmware bug that went uncorrected for quite a while.

  • are they twins?

  • awesome hair

  • Awesomesauce.

  • twins much

  • do we really look that similar?

  • yes.

  • lol blocks

  • racoons?

  • I had the same response...

  • exactly

  • lolz those are some good bloopers xD

  • your review is to much like 3DGAMEMAN. i can see your going for that but it might not be a good thing

  • just because we are reviewing a product doesn't mean it is like 3DGAMEMAN's. We're just trying to show all the features.

  • Ur Right

  • 3DGAMEBrothers! LuLS Im just Kidding xD

  • TWINS!!

  • too bad i don't need a server =]
