  • Once I went to the center of my mind. After a few minutes I just had to get the hell outta there !!

  • THE BASS PLAYER IS OFF THE CHAIN.......

  • This lead singer had a great voice. Fit perfect with the music

  • Was Ted Nugent so naive at the time ,.that he didn't know That JOurney to the center of your Mind is about taking LSD?

  • ted didnt like drug takers?what about some of his band members here.

  • @shaftsbury94 That's probably why he left the band

  • @Django5198 Have you heard how loud Nugents' solo material Is?

This is loud,,but his solo work has more volume to it

  • @shaftsbury94 In my case.... this would be a great song to use for meditation

  • Astonishingly bad band other than Nugent. Of course he makes up for a lot.

  • Get hold of the whole album Journey to the centre of a mind. This is just a snippet of what they could do.

Well worth a listen of anyone's ears

  • Great lead. A modern 1990s type lead done in the late 60s....very good. Too bad Nugent grew up to be such a jerky teabagger type.

  • I wish I could hear a live '67 version.always lip sync'd. cool footage though..thanks for sharing.

  • This song is timeless. Real music.

  • from the audience's perspective, ted is on the right

  • tasty lead

  • On the left playing the guitar

  • who of this ones is ted?

  • They really had a great band.

  • john drakes looks so stoned in this video. look at his eyes!

  • Tape echo..cHo co co ococo co

  • @daoist- clever and eloquent as usual, daoist 123

  • @lunchmind at least i know my head from my ass

  • @daoist23 THat shouldn't be too hard, in your case they're one in the same

  • @lunchmind i know you think i'm your mirror but i'm not. i could never be. forcing my beliefs on others out of ignorance, i couldn't live with myself

  • How come nobody cares if the music sounds absolutely great? I'm lovin' it!

My only complaint is that almost no psychedelic rock hit records can be reproduced in a live performance very well at all, though this one is lip-synched with pretty faithful guitar-fingering so it looks more convincingly "live performance" than most.

I love the planet and hate guns, but who cares? As long as Ted plays music, let's listen and enjoy.

  • While this whole tune is great, the key to experiencing full awesomeness is to play 1:40 to 1:54 at EXTREMELY HIGH VOLUME.

  • Recognize this fella on the Gibson?

  • classic

  • My God, you're a genius...

  • I have an idea for a game; let's try to figure out what drugs each of the band members are on in this video.

  • Where's the go go girls ?

  • I guess this is before Teddy walked around with crap in his pants for a few weeks to give the impression that he was nuts, in order to avoid the draft. What a hypocrite.

  • @leftchicago he claimed that was just a story; he had a deferrment because he was a community college student. He is also loved by the military...he does a lot for them.

  • @leftchicago, and to all of you claiming Ted was a draft dodger... I had the High Times issue that had the interview, and it was obviously even then that Ted was scamming the interviewer. As it turns out, the High Times 'journalist' showed up stoned, fired up a spliff, and made the mistake of offering it to Ted, whereupon the Whackmaster spun the stoner an over the top tale. All the idiots at HT bought it hook, line, and sinker. Apparently, 40 years later, morons still do.

  • @KayakMike1963 Morons? I guess it depends upon which end of the tall tale you are sitting at, eh?

  • @deaddoc If you are implying Ted was a moron for spinning a tall tale to a stoned out moron who worked for a bunch of stoned out morons who then published the story without vetting it (his deferment was already public knowledge at the time Ted fried the fool), well, we have a difference of opinion. If we really want to discuss someone who lied about Vietnam with consequence, we could speak of John Kerry...

  • @KayakMike1963 You sir, are an idiot. You KayakMike1963 You are a complete idiot for saying that about John Kerry. Look at WHY he went to Vietnam. No scandals in his life. Even his ex-wife still loves him. He is a boring speaker, but a hell of a windsurfer at 62 !!! FOX NEWS ARE ALL LIES!!! Tell a friend.

  • @lladnar69, I'd post a detailed retort, but I have to say that you've done an admirable job of doing it for me.

  • I love the way the singer lip synchs the echo at the end... Mind mind mind mind mind... hilarious.

  • @enigmadroid Thats an echoplex [ tapeloop] on the record he didnt actually sing that ted has said that he doesnt relate to this song he has a drug abuse prevention hot line and he supports mothers against drunk driving

  • Arch-top with fuzz-tone...cool

  • Back when Ted Nugent was a draft-dodger.

  • Psychedelic Ted had better solos than Cat Scratch Fever era Ted. lol.

  • @ MrGergen,Yes I am a vegetarian and you're right about the processed factory-farmed stuff. It's just that Nugent has been most contemptuous of the idea of aniaml rights. I don't demonize meat -eaters per se. But his attitude sucks.

  • @lunchmind

Lacto-veg here for 40 years. Nugent plays great guitar, but he hasn't a clue, does he.

  • @Krisesakes 'He sure hasn't

  • @lunchmind, I've been a vegetarian for 30+ years, and I'll tell you this: Ted is right-animals HAVE no rights. We humans DO, however, have a responsibility to manage the wildlife of this planet... a responsibility we earned by being at the top of the food chain, and by decisions we have made that have altered the natural balance of the food chain. If there are too many animals in an area, they get sick, starve, and die. Hunting and trapping are the most humane methods of fixing the problem.

  • @KayakMike1963 There's a nice bullet for you, how do you like it? Your leg stuck in a bear trap, nice and humane feeling isn't it? It's a bogus argument for false mitigation of the real issue. Some people think the rush of killing animals is better than drugs. That's why Nugent hunts and that is why all hunters kill for sport. Animal control is a bogus argument. Killing animals for the primitive rush of the kill is not a path to enlightenment. But doing drugs isn't either

  • @deaddoc I find it intriguing that although I've been a vegetarian for over 30 years, I know that Ted is telling the truth, and that your argument is spurious and insulting to a behavior that you disagree with. Were I a better long gun shot, I'd be participating in the hog eradication hunts here in Florida, wherein feral non-native hogs are removed from the wild and food is distributed to the poor (look up how much meat Ted has donated, BTW). You misunderstand the 'rush' completely.

  • @lunchmind You need to understand the "Law of Identity"... "A is A" ...

An animal doesn't have rights because an animal can't act in a way that won't consciously violate YOURS, and so doesn't recognize rights, and therefore has none... simple, right?

    "Be confused no more!"...

  • @YooTooobJeff WRONG! this "law of identity "bullshit does justify cruel exploittion of animals. The fact that they are capable of suffering entitles them to rights .

  • @lunchmind your attitude sucks bitch

  • I can'tbelieve that the lead guitar player in this great song degenerated into to an animal -hating red-neck

  • @lunchmind

he ain t no redneck and are u a vegetarian. hunting and eating your own meat is more humane than going to any top chain fast food joint or eating processed stuff

  • Uncle Ted Rocks!!! Nuff Said!!

  • I love Ted, I don't get why people think this is a great song, it's awful, lol, complete crap

  • @CletusColtrane true. However the guitar part is amazing. On side note; I believe Ted stalked and killed the piano player for the Amboy Dukes on his ranch in Texas. I think it was in 2003.

  • @CletusColtrane douche, it was a classic psychedelic song from the 60s...go listen to your Jay Z.

  • @fumetti

Lol, someone's got their panties in a bunch...Can I go listen to John Lee Hooker, hurry back and let me know Francis

  • @CletusColtrane you cannot compare two different genres...that is like comparing Wagner and Louis Armstrong.

  • Luke skywalker has gone psychedelic !

  • Amboy Dukes is the first heavy metal bands

  • Gotta love Ted!

  • The biggest hypocrite is the one who points out everyone else's hypocrisy.

  • UNCLE TED!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love the lead singer in this band. He is soo cute with his crystal clear blues eyes. And the Keyboard player looks amazing too.

  • AWESOME fuzz break at 1:42.

  • @WillHear432

    lol

  • @CletusColtrane What I meant is that it was Blue Cheer-esque.

  • ...and they say the Beatles re-invented music?.....BULLSHIT!....listen to the Amboy dukes or Iron butterfly and Steppenwolf...Americans re-invented music!

  • This song was truly in it's day an invitation to take acid.I did accept that invitation on many occasions. Very many.

  • @vintagezigg Are you a public school teacher?

  • @Cassandraspetcanary Know Om Knot

  • Im trying to find an old version of this song where they actually sing.

  • All the best music takes you on a journey to the center of your mind !

  • I Jamed with Greg Arama the Bass players in Corralitos California, Ted Nugent is a great guitar player (Ted Claims to be clean and sober) he also is a Sherriffs and likes to hunt just for fun. Yes that was the best lead ive heard, other than Jimmy Hendrix

  • @TheMidcoast1...Then I proclaim Ted Nugent for Prez and then you can leave a for a bannana republic like good ole Mexico!

  • Ted Nugent swears that he didn't know this song was about drug use. Do you believe him?

  • @DharmaLogos Who says it was. It's a myth that everyone in the 60's was drugged. Many songs that had nothing to do with drugs were claimed by the druggies. Ever heard of meditation? It was huge at the time.

  • The words the music totally emazing

  • I wonder if Ted was a flag-waving reactionary back when he was with the Dukes?

I guess this would have been around the time (according to Ted) that he shit his pants for a week to get out of going to 'Nam. Typical chicken hawk ....

  • @librarianeric If that were true, he should be a hero to you damn dirty hippi cause you go for that kind of thing. You dont need a reason to shit your pants and you wipe your ass with the flag would be my guess.

  • @Cassandraspetcanary Is it really too much to ask that you learn how to spell before you spout your presumptive bullshit? Try thinking critically instead of reflexively. That you question my patriotism because I point out Ted's flagrant hypocrisy reveals, in spades, your hyper anti-intellectualism.

  • @librarianeric Only a hippi who hates Nugent would trawl Nugent videos looking for a political fight. Only a marxist uses words like reactionary and reflexively. A patriot doesn’t use the phrase 'flag-waver' as a pejorative. I also question your sources. I think they are not factual.

  • @Cassandraspetcanary Okay, you got me - I'm a Marxist anti-Nugent troll who uses bigger words than the few to which you are accustomed. But is it really too much to ask that you learn how to spell the word "hippie"? Good god Almighty. Question my sources all you want - that story is straight out of Ted's mouth.

  • @cengeb ...You seem like a civil person but you have this undying vendetta against Ted. Give it up man, if we want to listen to Ted, thats are biz. Ted and hunters like him are managing game populations so people don't get injured or worse hitting deer on the roads. Ted Nugent for Govenor of Michigan.

  • @goldfortress And that's the day I'd get the hell out of MI.....

  • Fucking awesome video....

The Amboy Dukes' version of "Baby Please Don't Go" is the best version of that song I've ever heard thanks to Uncle Ted's kick ass distorted guitar riffs...

Van Morrison and Them gave it a whirl but just couldn't touch the Nuge...

  • Ted can stick his anti hippie remarks up his ass. He jumped on the bandwagon like everyone else. I wonder if he still has that orange velvet suit....

  • Never liked his antics but l loved that hollow body pickin sound of his.

  • @cengeb...I hope Uncle Ted and the Dukes find you a home in an assisted living project for steaming piles of skunk manure like yourself. May the fleas of a thousand camels infest your Justin Bieber bedroom comforter and pillow. Who invited you to this site anyway creep. Court adjourned!

  • @goldfortress

Ted Nuggent is a nut. His music blows, he is a horrible musician, loudmouth dolt.

  • Comment removed

  • @cengeb....

  • horrible musician?well he's got the fame & fortune you don't

  • @flyinv1967 Ted Nuggent is a RETARD, doesn't matter what he has, he's still a mental case. shoots arrows LIVE arrows on stage, and all his dumb politics, he's a blow hard. When he's gone on Stern , he's a blahtering nitwit. He may have eaten too many wild animals, maybe he has rabis? Horrible boring music, nothing original. BORING.

  • @cengeb You're a fucking idiot.

I love this music...so does my Dad...My friends and I used to drink around the campfire back in college and listen to "Stranglehold"....we're 28-29 yrs old now....

You're obviously some worthless fuck that came here to trash the video....go back and listen to your Barbara Streisand records and do your Jane Fonda Step Aerobics ya fuckin NANCY

Take your politics elsewhere too ya daft cunt

  • @arvydas0069

I've lived through the entire era of all of Ted N. and everything else. you are truly clueless. If you knew anything about music, you would realize he's a joke. Loud mouthed load. Now why don't you get educated about real music, from the 50's and 60's. This guy had one hi, and he was part of a group. His solo garbage is just that. You have a lot of learning to do.

  • Gun slinging Vietnam war dodger! Teddy boy is a coward!

  • @cozener1 So when does a loser from the United Kingdom get to comment on a great American like Ted Nugent. Viet Nam was an illegal war. Do your homework chump, then comment.

  • @thechosenonedead Wow, you really are an A hole, Buddy Guy is 74 years old, when you see him live, he's incredible, who do you think all these guys like Ted learned stuff from Buddy guy influenced em all. your name calling really shows what a low class load YOU are.

  • This is pre Ted's political BS, and shooting arrows at live events, I seen him once that was enough, he sucks now, they had one great song, this one. Ted N. is nuts, and blathers like a psychopath.

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • @thechosenonedead Mine is the only one that matters, absolutely . attend one of Ted's live shows, horrible, old age has taken it' toll. Unlike many others that are superb!

  • Comment removed

  • @thechosenonedead Ever wonder why they all have a comments section, for people to put comments. Where do it say the comments need be only positive? I think you may not understand things. How dare i put my comment if it doesn't agree with yours. Ted N. sure ain't no Buddy Guy or Mick J. He's a load mouth load.

  • @thechosenonedead Why would you accept such mediocre and basically lousy musical performances, as something good. Ted N. is horrible, big ZERO, loud mouth putz. His routines on living healthy and killing shit is an act that has failed. Horrible musician, he needs to go into the forest and dissipate. His political rants are total BS. He's got a few loose screws.

  • Comment removed

  • @cengeb yer an idiot.

  • @cengeb You blather like a douchebag .

  • I remember my brother buying this album i took it to school for music day the teacher sent me to the principles office for the water pipe being on the cover something nugent disliked as well back then but siome record company douchebag put it through against teds wishes .

  • @kingdiamond69 In the book Grit Noise and Revolution The Birth of Detroit Rock and Roll by David Carson, Ted says he didn'tf even know what that crap was till someone told him. Where did u get your info? Just curious. I know Nugent is anti-drug but in those years I don't think he was in any position to take on record companies.

  • This is still one of the best guitar solos ever. Ted's best without a doubt.

  • In color!Awesome :-)

  • Ted Nugent claimed he never knew the song was about drugs.WINK, WINK!

  • NUGE!!!!!!!!

  • damn ted nugent has changed from complete acid rock to hard rock but everything he does is awesome this however is his best work

  • Whatever happened to the lead singer? I think his name is John Drake.

  • @vladimir998 john sang with the amboy dukes for their reunion on the detroit music awards 2009. the video is right here on youtube.

  • aciddd

  • Nice groove but these guys are high as The British Crown. "Take a ride to the land inside of your mind". I guess that would take a few x-pills and acid...lol!!! The lead singers expression says it all. Awesome Jam overall!!!! Ted is rocking the axe!!!

  • Fantastic!

  • WOW! Ted rocks!

  • This was the best thing Ted Nugent ever did....

  • @writerjmd Agreed. He needs to shut his racist mouth.

  • UNCLE TED!!!!!

  • Looks kind of like a Mike Meyers 'Groovy' Kind of 'Happening Scene' - Yeah baby !!!

  • yeahh !!!!!! great music

  • To bad this is lip synched. Haha they made it soo obvious in this video.

  • lead singers always got the same expression in every clip ive seen him. Also wondering if ted could have his guitar pulled up any higher lol

  • I love seeing straight Ted playing with a bunch of guys that are so obviously stoned to the gills. GREAT song!

  • @robin7771 Ted probably took a journey to the center of his mind, found nothing there, and came back outraged. Ergo current Tea Party Ted..

  • @friendlier hahaha gasp lmfao!!!yeah the tea party shit all over DEMS and clobbered them into submission.....oh-dumb-a a true socialist clown....

  • @LEWFROST2 Do you use roads and streets? Are those streets lit by streetlights and have stop signs and other road signs. Does the city and state you live in have police and fire departments? Oh! You SOCIALIST you !!!! Dumbass......stop being an imbecilic moron all your life.

  • @LEWFROST2 As I saw on a Navy Master Chief's bumper last week: "Save America......Sterilize a Liberal"

  • @robin7771 fuck you redneck...

  • @robin7771 agree..but i have to admit, you'd have to have a will and self-control of steel to avoid drugs in those days, especially if you were a rock-n-roller. I don't know how he did it. I think Bruce Springsteen is the only other person i know who was a teetotaler

  • @BeyondNeptune I think Jeff Beck was drug free also.

  • @spyguys I think Gene Simmons is the only other rock star who claims to have never taken drugs or drank alcohol.

  • @BeyondNeptune are you and all the others really buying into this load of crap that Ted never did drugs? People who toured with him will tell you otherwise ...

  • @Carus0e Ted is no fool, he keeps it going, don't you get it ?? Your all in the thick of it....

  • Wow ! Talk about your CLASSIC !

  • woah, thats the only time ive ever seen ted look at his guitar for where his fingers need to be, and it doesnt even seem the same person!

  • is that rob ruska on bass?

  • LONG LIVE THE NUGE!!!

  • If bands playing in clubs would play this kind of old music they would stay packed & there proubley be less trouble.my band opened with this song & then went into Whipping post by ABB.

  • @mitch222ful I couldn't agree more...We came a little later...playing cover in the early 80`s. but all the jersey club bands in the 70`s were tearing it up. All fun, nobody getting hurt, plenty of drugs and women but still...no one getting hurt. Not this Hip-Hop : Rap FKn BS, today Bloze big time. my first concert was GENESIS at The Tower Theater in 74`...sounds you may have a couple years on me...Don't know...just a guess....CYA LTR

  • @LEHIGHDRIVE Cool u were one of the few that got to see Peter Gabriel with Genesis .I had my first band in 68 I ws 14 & we were fighting the bubble gum crap that ws back then like the Archies & David Cassidy so we focused hard the Dukes,Cream& Blue Cheer & after I saw uncle TED in 68 he's been my idle ever since

  • @mitch222ful So cool of you to say..as Gabriel became my Idol for many years, there after...Still is. He actually appeared in the audience, as he always did, and my buddy and I doing some serious hallucinogens, got to shake hands with him. An everlasting impact as i was 14 or 15 at the time...good story, mitch

  • @LEHIGHDRIVE U knw its hard to hve any inteligent conversation wth anyone about music anymore without everybody giveing there opinion which always comes to the same ol'e crap either OZZY rules or Metalica does, granted they r very talented artist & they've stood the test of time & u will notice a true artist/musician has an open mind 4 GOD SAKES I"VE BEEN INTO MOTOWN ALL MY LIFE (give me sme TEMPS or sme 4TOPS or RARE EARTH & I"M GOOD 2 GO)

  • @LEHIGHDRIVE Is that Rob Ruska on bass.

  • Saw them in 1968 when they opened 4 The Vanilla Fudge with Appice bro's

  • can somone tell me what album this is on.

  • @bigczech7 Their Second album on Mainstream..this is the Title track. It was reissued on CD by Repertoire (Germany) but i believe that too is out of print.

  • @yclept57 thanx

  • In my opinion this is one of the best songs EVER!! Hands down!

  • that's better!!...reunion great, but maybe sometimes its better to remember a group in their hey day. Trying to capture magic 40yrs later....whata ya going to do??

  • Nice little drum on the guitar touch by Nugent at 2:40!

  • @voidforpurpose OOps! Meant 1:56!

  • got give him credit for clean living though. That very much makes him an anomoly among rock stars. The rest of the dukes sound and look like they spent the last 40 years in a sewer. Ted is still on his shit. So as it turned out he was right about all that draconian ant-drug shit.

  • there's millions of right wing nut jobs with a third grade education just like him. he's an amazing guitarist. that makes him special, being an idiot hillbilly with a stockpile of guns, a big mouth and an infantile understanding of economics doesn't make him special. it makes him an idiot

  • @bellydweller He is a police officer know it all. You Obama ass licker.

  • My favorite song of all time as soon as it was released! The lead singer looks like a star football player.

  • ted white and blue

  • TED NUGENT IS COOL MAN!

  • Uncle fuckin Ted is 19 here............

  • em[Zappa66 need to take a journey to his moma I DID wasnt that great but she liked it though.

  • John Drake is awesome.. don't take me wrong, but hey.. what a dorky apperance duuh! :D

This is 42 years ago, when Ted Nugent actually still was quite cool! ;)

  • @mrtwig80 jimmy page showed the world how to look kool with a guitar - a les paul slung low , bouncing off the knee... lol

  • @justtex1975 i'm a liberal and an atheist, and I couldn't agree with you more. The whole point is that we must be able to make our choices individually. The liberals I grew up with did NOT want the govt to tell us who to love, what to wear, who (if anyone) to worship, etc. I don't agree with Nugent's politics or religion, but none of that means he isn't a great guitarist, and if he doesn't get into the HOF, then the HOF is a mockery.

  • Very well said, bckm54@justtex1975. This is what makes (made?) this country unique among nations. I'm at the other end of the spectrum but recognize that we all need to respect the positions, choices, LIVES that others choose to live... and those governing should not dictate what those are.

  • He`s still GREAT...Standing as a Tall American, NRA, Pro Gun, pro republican and wholesome Human.......Find another one like him

  • @LEHIGHDRIVE He's nothing more then a drunk draft dodger, who jumped on the conservative bandwagon when it suited his purpose. He's a fraud.
