do airbuses have the worst history,or what? if the gear had snapped however then that would mean more money to pay out for damage. so the cause of the twisted landing gear? tell me please.
everyone talks about the "scarebus" but i think if anything, this has shown that even in emergencies airbus has proved its reliability. Look how gracefully the plane came down and how safely it was able to manuver in a state of emergency. Emergencies happen no matter who makes the plane..but it is how the plane reacts to it that counts. And in this case, it handled it very well. Great pilot too btw
Can somebody please tell the rescue trucks that if they wait at the EnD of the runway, they dont have to go so far! They always seem to be way way back there, like they wait at the beginning of the runway until the plane passes over them, then they give chase. I mean, wtf, no?
They wait by the touchdown zone so that they can follow the plane to where it stops, because what if they wait at the end of the runway, but the plane's landing gear collapses at the beginning, then they have to go even farther than they do by following it
But seriously, if your not an airport emergency I.C., don't tell them how to do their job.
Ok, Plane touches down, gear collapses, aircraft burst into flames, the fire trucks following it, will be able to start the rescue almost immediately, whereas the fire trucks sitting at the end of the runway, have to drive for a minute or two up to the crash, in that minute or two, lives could be lost, so being at the end of the runway delays the entire rescue process
And excellent job by the pilots, I can tell you there is no irregular checklist for "nosegear stuck sideways"...well, there might be one now, but there certainly wasn't when these pilots were presented with it. The pilots had to improvise, and they did a great job. Note to Airbus: Fix that please!
It was a good opportunity to raise revenue. The police are at times, insensitive in this community. Some people there were truly interested in the fate of the plane, others were there to view a possible wreck. An ENG truck was cited. That upset me because if the police needed a news organization's help, they come to town and broadcast a report, missing child, rapist on loose, etc. I saw it as a "cheap shot."
@Philflash Well, the did violate parking regs, but I know it would have been nice of the cop to have "overlooked" it, considering what was going down at the moment.
@dollarboy500 im pretty sure he used the speed brake and the spoilers to break his speed b4 touch down and then raised them back to 0d and set thrust to idle b4 final,, The spoilers at 30 degrees will push the nose down after touch down, but in his case he didnt want that he wants to keep the nose up long as he can,and once he touch down,he set his auto brakes, applied about 30% thrust to slightly keep the nose from fallen, and manualy use the brakes until the nose fell
i live in LA county so i was watching this live on the edge of my seat!! i was like "oh crap!!! they gonna die!!!". i'd fuckn make love to the pilot for sticking that landing if i was a passenger.
It was rather great for the pilot to hold the nose up as long as possible but either he is dumb or for safety reasons, he did'nt turn on his reverse thrusts nor he armed his airbrakes. He was pretty lucky there and if not, it'll be a different outcome!
I think that would have been worse if he turn on the reverse thrust or braked hard. That would put all the momentum and weight on the front and possibly cause the front landing gear to colapse, causing more harm.
Nice beginning, got to give credit to that officer...but, the way you kept right on JBU292 was spectacular...I never lost sight of the plane or the sparking gear. I give that a 10 out of 10 :)
That officer is ugly! Good job, pal!

Well who is the Airport IC? You, or them?
They wait by the touchdown zone so that they can follow the plane to where it stops, because what if they wait at the end of the runway, but the plane's landing gear collapses at the beginning, then they have to go even farther than they do by following it

@dollarboy500 i thing he didn't apply them cause he wanted a smooth breaking so the gear wouldn't break

IN AN EMERGANCY LANDING YOU DON'T USE REVERSER OR AIRBRAKES AS TE SPARKS CAN LEAK OUT FUEL FROM THE OPENINGS!!!
