dude... what's fucked up is I use to always say I wanted to make an MMO... I only knew a little bit of C++. No socket programming. People didn't laugh at me though. They were coders but not game coders.... idk maybe they were scared to laugh at me xD

Make RPG with zombies, and cars, and guns and shops, and you can do misisons, and you can shoot people, and there's zombies attacking you, and this game wouls be multiplayer with max 500 players per server, huge 3D maps with high detailed textures and make it for free...everybody would play it...

Haha, awesome. I have some experiance with the C Language, but I mainly use the Warcraft 3 Map Editor to craft games (since I don't even know any OpenGL or SDL).

I'd love to have some ideas for games, AND I could help you out with existing projects (as long as it does not include programming in Winsock, OpenGL, SDL, or stuff of that sort)

Actually, I'd play that Abe Lincon game. Especially if it involved hippos. And You got a giant chiwawa every 25 pickle catches in a row combo that ate all the bad things on the screen. And it had a script like bulletstorm.

THE PERFECT BLEACH GAME NEEDS: 3 species, shinigami, human, arrancar. Customizable zanpacto (how it looks sheathed and released). Transformations like a vizard mask, arrancar zanpacto realeases, bankai ex Ichigo's. Those transformations should be customizable and obtainable through special missions. Abilities and skills like kidou and stuff. I'm not sure if I left anything but ppl if you really want this we gotta ideas to different developer companies

A seizure game. The game flashes Red and Blue lights and after every ten seconds the flashing got faster. I made it... IN GAME MAKER!!!! >:D And the flashing got so fast that it just turned into a purple screen. Sadly, no seizures were witnissed...

I have an online buddy, I sent him the first game I made (with help from your tutorials ^^) And he says "Woah, that's pretty cool! But it sucks cause it's 2D" (basically exactly what you said about the DBZ thing) and then told me I should make "a game like dawn of war but with better graphics" And I told him that 30 people working on art takes way less time than 1 person working on art and programming and school as well. People, please think about the programmers before you ask dumb questions!

RTS games are pretty complicated on their own, and even more complicated to create from scratch.

I know, but.. its all in the Variables.. i use a language wich basicly is the simplest thing ever. GML ( Game maker Language )

Well sure, if you're using Game Maker.

For an RTS, it'd require me to write:

- A user interface (hopefully intuitive)

- AI, from pathfinding to computer managing it's team

- State saving / loading

- Actually presenting the stuff on screen (the basic sprite animating and such).

Plus, I am a lousy level designer and I'm no good at balancing stats or anything else out.

The task, by itself, is a bit overwhelming for just me.

Yeah i get what your saying, since GML has an Built in Path Fining Algorythm the hard part is left out, AI can be programmed by checkpoints and well in GML Animations and Presenting isnt that off a big deal. Though GML aint like a "real' programming language.

I know this is about a year old, but why not have an rpg where your character has to recruit people to make a game with each member having a specific speciality - like game designer, programmer, level editor, etc. So basically, it's a game about making a game.

Yeah. It wouldn't be a bad concept, but I tend to shy away from making games with characters that belong to someone else, as they tend to get shut down by the companies.

(There was a 3D remake of Chrono Trigger, and all that work went for nothing when Square told them to stop and not distribute any of it)

I joined a team once to do art for their game and it was just some stupid RPG maker sort of thing and they already had sprites for it and there were like 30,000 items and they were only using like 10 of them and the director was basically just like "um yuh redraw all of these in two days" with no indication of what he actually wanted them to look like. Fucking noobs.

Wow, I feel sorry for you, being stuck up with those noobs. RPG maker is for noobs too lazy to program. If you do art for a team make sure they're programming (for real), and those people you qorked with will fail in life.

None of the games you listed have any market base to economically facilitate content creators the means to which to create, for profit that is.

Not to mention that even the most basic games these days are easily over 30,000 lines of C/C++, some upward to several million lines.

Most people who say "I want to make an MMO" are laughed at, quite literally, simply because there is a lot of overhead and control flow that needs addressed - newbies do not posses the experience necessary to understand.

MMO's SUCK, THe best thinng you could start is with an FPS, yes, its easy and you will always have ideas, since we (almost) all like FPS, such as Counter Strike, Half Life, Quake, UT, and so on, there are a lot of them ,and there will be.

DOnt start with a SAndbox game or something like GTa, because you will like have too much to code. BUt why not make simple games such as pong, space invaders (as our friend Gyrovorbis said, its a good start). I have my own idea, and once i will make it...yeah

When you start game programming, you need to do something that's basic, requires no scripting, basic AI, and 2D graphics. Arcade games and such are good places to start.

WEll then a mario forever.... you dont really have to AI those mushrooms, its good if you made them move and make a colision between blocks,(and player), or a bloobs kind game, shoot bubbles:). Like at DarkBasic the tutorials i found where rather for making an FPS game, still thats a game purpose language...
