@deferential1 Don't know about you, but I'm not much for the later britpop lush, before that though, they only made beautiful music, almost up their with mbv
I long for the days of this song. I even recently went back and time/pitch edited the song to the correct pitch, since it was obviously tampered with in the studio to speed it up some... it should be slower, as the bass motif is centered around E, and the pitch on this is almost a half step off.
Awesome!! The 1st time I heard & listened to LUSH was a spring morning of 1992 on MTV. The music vid was "Stray". Little did I know the next time I would the LUSH "Stray" vid would be 11 1/2 years later (Dec. 2003) on VH1's The Alternative. I was home sick. If I had been at work that morning, I would have not seen it ever again. Lush is wearing avant garde desgn clothing and there is psychedelic imagery interspersed in this music video. Does any else recall seeing the LUSH "Stray" video???
@Tothe2012 I agree 100%...the early 90's, just like the late 60's was awash in REAL artistry...not losers like today's Justin Bieber. I'm especially proud of the early 90's bands because people like Billy Corgan and Perry Farrell were my peers, it was my generation which expressed itself musically from 1990-95. That said, I'd hate to see these bands try to make a comeback...that was then, this is now. Nothing sadder than a fat, balding or greying rock god trying to "get it up"!!
This band made some of the most beautiful sounds i've ever heard... I only listen to hardcore rock and rap music. but stuff like this really soothes my mind :)
We were watching 120 Minutes on MTV back in the early 90's: they showed 'De Luxe' while I was tripping on some very kind/sweet/loving/dancing bear acid: I was hooked, and went to Planet Music as soon as they opened the next morning and bought all of their CDs. RIP Chris...
First saw them on MTV's "120 Minutes" and later on "Postmodern MTV" w/Dave Kendall back in 1990. I still have original 1990 CD. This music is timeless and holding up well even after 20 years!
@BabyBeastie1 I miss 120 Minutes. Not the new version of VH1, but the original with guests, interviews and liver performance. I found out about some great bands from that show. Lush, Nirvana, Sonic Youth, and Smashing Pumpkins were just some of them. There are bands that remain unheard of to this day.
I miss Lush. In retrospect, I can't believe there were so many good fucking bands producing music at the same time in the past. Let's hope this current desert passes soon for a period of great music again.
Listening to this song is a reflection of how incredible beautiful life can be.
Listening to Adam Lambert makes me think the world is ending soon ROFL.
@Tothe2012 Agree with what you have to say, except your statement about Adam Lambert. Listening to him doesn't make me think the world is ending soon, listening to him makes me WISH the world would end soon.
@Tothe2012 I agree. I am still listening to all of them. Lush, Ride, Swervedriver, Cocteau Twins, etc, etc... I was very fortunate to grow up in the late 80s and early 90s.
The early 90s were some of the best time for music for sure. And no Rock Band and Internet was needed to find good bands. You had college radio and MTV (when they actually played videos and had shows like 120 Minute) for that.
@WWEFalcon I'm just making the arguement that back in the day you didn't need Rock Band or the Internet to find cool bands like Lush. I'm glad that people are now getting into this band because of Rock Band, though I really don't care for the game myself. I play real guitar.
@fatcatbuzz Yeah, me too. I didn't say that for the sake of argument. I'm just saying since all radio plays now is overrated wannabes...Rock Band/Guitar Hero/stuff like that are good ways to be introduced to bands that are worth something. But yeah I know what you mean.
@WWEFalcon No prob. I just use the word argument in a language sense. I too old to argue on Youtube and don' do it myself. There are some great indie stations were I'm from in St. Paul/Minneapolis. However, I live in South Korea so the Internet is great for finding new stuff out here. Commercial music these days is horrible for the most part. But, this weekend I was in a club in Gwangju and can use a dose of that stuff every now and then. But, I still go back to music like this.
@ndfitness To tell you honestly, I love Youtube. I moved to Korea about a year ago and didn't bring all my records and have alot of free time to kill. So, the Internet and Youtube are great. But, I would give it all up for great music. I think the Internet is a blessing in one area and a curse in others. But, I got to see all these great music videos and live performances that wouldn't be possible with out Youtube and the Internet. I think for music, it's mostly positive.
@fatcatbuzz My high school years were spent scouring liner notes, looking for producers, shout outs to other bands/band members, etc; anything to link to other bands producing similar sounds to what I already liked & knew. Those links(along with the local indie record stores) were primarily how I built my music library and became aware of great music like this during the eighties & nineties.
@veedub87 Me, too, and this was the way to do things back then. Don't get me wrong, the Internet is a great tool for finding new and old new indie bands as well as bands in the mainstream. I moved here to Korea found a site were I can download all these Korea girl groups (the last kind of music I ever thought I would get into, 하하하). But, I'm in my 30s and still remember the days when everything was organic and I really miss those days. Ever record find was an adventure, you know what I mean?
@fatcatbuzz Indeed. That organic element was what distanced the casual music folks from the enthusiasts. The internet is obviously fantastic for finding music, but I think a lot of us music minded people took pride in physically tracking down those bands and enjoying what the majority didn't even know existed because they didn't care to or didn't know to look in the same way we did. I have no problem with digital music, but I surely do miss the physicality of cds and lps.
@veedub87 I still get vinyl, tapes and CDs just for the fact that they sound better than MP3 and videos posted on Youtube. I do like the Internet for finding great new bands as well old music and usually find new groups all the time or listen to bands I never had chance to before simply because I never heard their music. So, in that way the Internet is a good thing. But still, like so many of us that grew up in the 70s, 80s, and 90s, I sometimes think there is something missing to today's music.
Eargasm.
