Informative video. I went with the Cokin Z but looked at the Lee. Both hard to get now but someone offered to sell me an extra holder so I got it. I dont think the holder one gets is a huge deal. The filters are what matters. I just ordered the hitech as well. From what I read they are a good middle ground between the cheap Cokin and expensive lee. This video is old so I'm sure you used the filters. How did you like them? How is the Lee holder working? Only things I didn't like about the le
@Uscbryan949 Hello, Sorry for the delay, I was traveling in British Columbia, and did not look at my w mail.
I love the filters, I do not however use them as much as i would like. I find that the Nd filters are a must to get some slow shutter speed effects, but I find that the ND grads and the Color filters are not as useful a i would have imagined. The reason is that I shoot in Raw mode and I find that I can do more when I process in camera Raw (photoshop).
part 2 setting up these filters can be time consuming. I find that Camera raw permits me to do do more with less experimentation. This does not mean that i do not use them if I have the time and that the conditions are such that it will save me some post processing time. I love my Hitech ND Filters they do a great job. My Lee filters thought seam to be better built and feel very professional. I hope this answers your questions.
Hello Jono5661 Sorry for the delay, I Do not own any Cokin filters because although they are less expensive, they apparently have a magenta color cast. I do not know if they fit but lee filters are 4 by 6 inches and Cokin are 100 mm by 150 mm basically the same thing but I cannot confirm that they fit.
The best thing would be to go in a store and compare the two filters to be sure.
Hello Renatosamba, Thank you for the positive review. Hitech filters are from England, so it is probably easy to find them there, Since I have never been in the UK, I purchased mine on E bay, . Hitech is a parent company of Format, they do sell format filters on their web site
They are more expensive but they do offer 100mm x 150 mm filters witch is a great advantage.
It's a big help, thank you very much for the review!
Just a few questions though.. with just the standard 77mm adapter (NOT the wide angle one) will you get vignetting on FX using a 16-35 or 17-35 Nikkor? Thanks
The Cokin system, and associated filters are a small faction of the price. Granted there are drawbacks for sure, many people complain about the quality of the filter holder and of the optics but considering the price…
I just purchased the Cokin holder, adapter ring, circular polaizer and an ND8 filter for under $200 CAD.
Had I gone with the Lee system and gotten the cheapest circular polarizer and ND8 available from B&H I was looking at close to $500.
No The Hitech Filters ND Filters have no color cast, They are completely neutral. The only draw back withe the Hitech ND Grad Filters is that it is 4 x 5. For that reason I got The Original Lee 4x6. I also realized that if you get a 4x6 Hard grad from Lee, you can use it as a regular ND . So if In fact even though the lee filters are more expensive, in the end they will save you money. you wont have to buy both ND And ND Grad.
Hey Pascal, I am wondering if the Hitech ND filters have any color cast on the photos, since some of the Cokins have obvious magneta cast. I am not sure if Hitechs are like that too...
Thanks Mate for uploading this video. I had a few worries about getting a Lee Filter System..By after showing this video I feel a whole lot more confident. Only problem with Lee filter System is to add there circular polarizer cost a fortune compared to a regular good quality screw filter.
Hey just a quick question. Have you found over time that the Hi Tech filters have become loose in the Lee System or are they still just as snug and effective as they were when you posted this? Thanks!
@rossdunn Hello Rossdunn, thank you for the comment. No I did not find that the slot has become loose after time although the second slot is looser than the first one, But that was like that from the start. Please not that Lee does sell specific blades for Hitech Filters for about 15 $, but for now anyways, they seem useless. I Hope this helps.
Nicely done! Thank you for doing this - it helped me get a better feel for what I was about to buy (for a lot of money!). Even better, you discussed the hitech filters which I was wondering about. Cheers
Excellent video, thanks for sharing... nice photos, too!

Great video. Would you say that the Cokin Z pro filters would fit in the Lee Holder?
Thanks

@pascs1977 Thanks anyway, opted out for a B+W 106ND instead because of the colour cast and bad quality people had said about the Cokin grads..
jono5661 10 months ago
Yes, this was the 100 mm filter. If you have any wide angle lenses, you have no choice to get 100 mm if you want it to fit. good luck

Hi there. That was informative for me since I'm looking to buy some filters but don't know much about them.
Was this the 100mm set?
