  • SCA Forever!

  • is that the music of stronghold legends?

  • Im just curious is how do you join?

  • I would really like to know how to make those axes and hammers and maces those look fun to use >:)

  • It's a shame Rapier wasn't covered, whereas the focus was mostly heavy and the community.

  • @KNIGHTOFSCOTS : I haven't actually seen any of this yet? Care to show me a video or something of live steel going full contact? I'm interested.

  • Would it be ok to use this video as a recruitment tool at a demo?

  • @SgtMonster Yeah absolutely. No problem at all. :)

  • 100% Pure geek hahaha

  • knights are hot. just sayin...

  • Because it bugs me, i have to say something, the reason for rattan is not because it will break before bones, that is totally untrue, bones break long before rattan ever will, it is actually because when it breaks it kinda just turns into a mush of strings rather than a bunch of sharp pieces of wood

  • lol love it :) I fight out of TX The Stellar Kingdom of Ansteorra!

  • I hope its 15 raipers dont seem fun

  • Do they still dobthis im really interestef in doing this and im 15 can I do it

  • @sage481 Yes, they still do it. I believe the youngest is 16 with parent's permission

  • @sage481 you'll have to wait 3 years to fight in any events.

  • @Aserox : Says the official rules of the SCA, to fight in heavy list you have to be 18. If not they are severely breaking the rules of the oganization.

  • @Halofreakanoid from the marshalls hand book:

    B. Minor Authorization: Minors (ages 14–17) may authorize with these additional requirements:

    1. In order to be authorized as a combatant or marshal in adult armored combat, an individual must have

attained his or her sixteenth (16th) birthday.

  • @namvart : I was told differently at the Great Northeastern War. They wouldn't let me fight because I was 17.

  • @Halofreakanoid really?...I guess they got an age limit in general or maybe its state. that sucks

  • @TheMonsterSkull : Possibly, and yeah it did really suck. It would have hurt a lot because of all those huge guys out there but it would have been awesome too. Saw a axeman get shield smashed to the ground in a large battle.

Luckily I'm 21 now so I can participate and such.

  • really well done! Keep up the work, videos like this is what'll keep the society alive.

  • bloody brilliant I love the way he says "shut up your dead!" at 7:55 is just pricless!

  • ha ha ha, I love the war noises! I use them also to explain the battles!

  • fighting with steel is not more fun??

  • @wasiek1982 No doubt its fun, but first its kinda dangerous...then your blades chip and its costly to repair them....

  • @wasiek1982 : Depends on your perspective, it's a lot more dangerous when you're hitting each other with full force. And since steel can go through steel, I wouldn't try it.

  • @shadowman1269 : I'm sure it is for dis-honorable weaklings

  • @shadowman1269 : I Robert Montgomery On Behalf Of My Brothers & Sisters In The SCA. Do Here By Challenge & Triple Dog Dare You To Come Out to A Practice Or Larger Event & Sute Up. Then Tell Us If Snipping Someone Is Better Then Face To Face Combat. I Can Tell You That Nothing Beats the Comradship, Friendship Made, & Family Of The SCA. I Shall Say It Again. What Better Way To Relieve Stress. Then To Sute Up & Legally Beat Someone Up With A Stick. They're There For The Same Thing!!!

  • @shadowman1269 so you come on a youtube that has nothing to do with paintball, and you talk about saying ts better?gtfo

  • i could work with herblore

  • paintball is to modern warfare is as SCA to medieval warfare. Awesome

  • XD This is awesome. Love the geek line. Hahaha. And it's SO true.

  • My lord they are some mighty sneakers that you wear...

Thankyou servant, I got them during a mighty crusade to Paul's Warehouse

  • FUCK THAT SHIT UP

  • i think every guy secretly dreams of doing this

  • my bullet can go threw ur sword lol

  • @deaddeer345 My sword doesnt run out of bullets. :)

  • @ThanagarianTragedy tusha but id only need one

  • @deaddeer345 Good point, make it count! LOL

  • I wonder when the other 5 parts are coming?

  • @ulfhirtha never, probably

  • And I thought I had to die to go to heaven. :}

  • "Oi! Geroff me!" "Shut up, you're dead!"

God I'd love to visit Lochac!

    Huzzah from An Tir!

  • avesome

  • Мне всегда нравилось когда люди не просто играют,а живут своим увлечением. 7:^)

  • Seriously?

54 seconds of intro before any action???

    >;(

  • ied love to make my own coat of plate but i need a helping hand in the right methouds and a cheap way to do it. ied love it if any SCA members in kansas could hit me up and help me out

  • @jarhead1stlt there is a whole kingdom of people who can help you! pm me and we can talk.

  • The SCA is about learning how to do things the way they did in the Middle Ages. Arts and Crafts, Dancing, Cooking, Brewing, Using your imagination. Learning how to make Medieval Clothing.

If I did nothing but go to watch the fighting I would still go. I wasn't born in the SCA, but I will die in the SCA.

  • Well done, Sir! Well done indeed!

  • Damn fine video. I will likely add it to my myspace page in the near future for new people to see when I give out my sca business card.

    Syr Krotuas Horek - Trimaris

  • Best times of my whole life were spent in the SCA. Great video...thanks for sharing. Miss my squire brothers...

  • @impressiveink Why don't you go back and join them? Or is real life taking up your time?

  • Yes indeed, real life....and real bad knees...lol...thought about going back just for the events and not doing any heavy combat...perhaps merchanting or other...

  • Why not do that. You don't have to be a fighter. There's other stuff to do. Bardic Circle, Drumming for the Belly Dancers, Making stuff. If all the SCA was about was the fighting I wouldn't have joined.

  • i want to see people smack each other with real steel weapons (dull) and real steel armor

  • Yes, because it's more heavier. Attack speed will be more real.

  • a real sword isnt heavier. I have one, and it aint a mock up. Its only about 3.5lbs. TOTAL.

  • and thos wood things weight about 400 grams ?

  • Mine is 5.2 pounds. I do believe they put a weight limit on it somewhere in the martial handbook. This is to make sure you don't cave someones head in. A sword of this weight easily dents 16 gauge steel helmets.

  • Actually its not the weight that makes it unrealistic, the inertia and physics of the blows makes them "bounce" back a bit. With a sword you would have to pull it back before making another move, the rattan sword easily returns to the fighting posture.

  • pretty bank ass geek

  • hey you guys who made the video come to european medieval-events and you will see that youz have to work hard to get on that standard(in europe there are bad events too). i see you cook in a modern citchen.....remove these little details of the modern times and it will make much more fun than before and you will feel medieval times much better

    good luck

  • what an AWSOME video

  • I <3 SCA!

Wars are great, doing crafts is also great you just need to find something you're good at. And you get to meet people from all over the world because the SCA is truly worldwide, the largest medieval society by a huge margin.

  • Why the hell doesnt anyone around here do that? I should start it up, I know several people who would be thrilled to do it.

  • Rowany festival is being held at Peats Ridge this year, or is it next year? Must check that out. I'd like to go along and have a look, maybe show off some of my chainmail.

  • 12 Year SCA Vet here. I palyed in Atemisia. Now I play with the Barony of Starkhafn, Kingdom of Caid. Go SCA Huzzah. Go Starkhafn and Caid. Huzzah, Huzzah, Huzzah.

  • how do you get into this stuff it looks like a good laugh and mabey to learn a few things if you could tell me i would like that a lot HUZZA!

  • you play larping? what is it like please tell me

  • sca isn't larping. There is no yelling magic missile etc. That said you do have an SCA personality as who you are in whatever period between 600 and 1600 ad you are from. Eg I'm late period german born in 1582 called Sigfried.

it is great fun i have a blast and some bruises on odd occasion. check out the website and find a branch near you if you are interested

  • nice vid with music from stronghold legends :) keep up the good work :)

  • good video, I was looking forward to join before I saw this but this video made it even more absolute. thanks for sharing.

  • i love the sca!!!!growing up into it is awsome!!

  • SCA its the best thing.

  • It is wonderful to see such total enthusiasm for what the SCA offers.

  • This video is what inspired me to join the SCA.

    For the Kingdom of Meridies!

  • SCA should be SL = Soft Larp ;)

  • I actually used steel, the weapons do break :/ but so do you, they also cause bites which suck imo

  • can 17 year old's join?

  • you have to be 18 for multiple reasons to do steel fighting, try shinai to gain experience,

  • yes, but you cant fight heavy til 18

  • @SirAroace Yes you can join. You just can't fight in the heavy fighting. If you join and have a written note from your parents I think they will let you fight. Otherwise you have to wait until youre 18, but that gives you time to become a squire to a Knight and learn how to fight well.

  • How many here are going to Antir/West War this year?

  • i MIGHT be. I really hope I am, but I have to plan and everything so I don't know yet if I am going.

  • I'll be there!

  • WHOA WHOA WHOA now...rattan DOES NOT break before bones!

That is exactly why rattan is a favorite material for Escrima stylists world-wide.

I've broken ribs using rattan. It will eventually shred against armor, of course, but never will it be seriously damaged against the Human body. So, yes...avoid testing that theory, mate! :D

  • I love this guy's commentary. He captures the general spirit of the whole thing really well.

  • i have actually done this once in my life and it's an experience that i will never forget

  • I did it when I was 17 I did shinai though then did steel fighting when I turned 18 for about a month then got wayyy to busy now Im looking to get back into it again just need a suit, wouldn't mind making my own if anyone has any advice? I make my own chainmail because I have that much time on my hands now adays.

  • I think this guy really gets it! His description is what I experience at events. Standing on a line with 50 guys, trying to hold a line against a column charge, now that's martial arts :) I'm a kung fu man in practice and I love the chance to go 'test' myself in the field of 'battle'. Great times. many good friends met!

  • PS Steel passed on this year 2008 The boys are all now over 60 and want no credit but said would fight to this day and their proud of the societies accomplishments as I made Iron attend a tourny in early 2002 His main comment "Nice Helmet Boy" PSS Ive been a fighter for 25 years wanna argue the point Ill meet you on the feild

  • I plz beg to differ as the Society began with 3 young men playing with buckets, trash can lids and 2x4s On the site that is now Disneyland Cali. The idea grew as friends joined and then the idea was expanded over a few months and taken to Berkly as a demo. The boys called themselves "Iron, Steel and Bronze" the first SCA personas. The legends truth was changed by ladies stealing glory. Fighters not cooks started the Society

  • wonderful video! very nicely done. my only question is why is it called "Knight Shots"? I must have missed it but I didn't see any knights, lots of squires, but no knights. just wondering.

  • Great video! well done folks looks like you have a great group!

  • This is a awesome Video, it really shows all the fun & Learning the SCA has to offer

  • There's even a group called "The Great Dark Horde" and it's made up of Mongols, etc.

  • You have to choose a time period between 600 AD to 1600 AD. And as far as I know they even allow people to portray American Indians and Pirates. I went to one SCA Event and they had a Camp Gate that looked like a Pirate Ship in 2 separate parts and at nite they had a Belly Dancing Party and everyone ended up there. There was alot of the guys who fought playing drums for the dancers too. So the guys do more than just fight.

  • Yeah, anything that is time period. Some places are a bit harder core and make sure that it was really there there in time period, not just plausibl look it up on the internet

  • In Antir it's 16 with parents permission and 18 otherwise to do Heavy Fighting. That's what it is in the SCA. I don't think any of the SCA Kingdoms will allow anyone to fight under the age of 16 w/parents permission and 18 with proof of age.

  • that was kinda funny at about 7.55

bodys fallen over people geting steped.

    hey your steping on me!!

shut up your supose to be dead.

  • Antir = Oregon, Washington, B.C. Canada and there are some other states just can't remember right off what they are.

  • northwest idaho as well

  • Mytleholt Shire = Grants Pass, Oregon

  • aah get of me, shut up your dead. lol

  • nerd 4 life!! huzzah

  • "We're still geeks. Now we're just geeks with really big swords."

He has NO clue how right he is! And the geeks shall inherit the Earth. =0)

  • i waNNA FUCKING JOINNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ARHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH:@:@:d:d:d;D:D

    DEMOGORGORNOTH~

  • Great video Milord! Huzzah!

  • This works as an incredible advertisement. XD So cool.

  • hahaha hey go college of st basil (thats me in perth, western australia)!!

  • I have to say joining the Sca was a choice i will not regret any time soon

  • Nicely put together vid. Definitely going to show this to my shire next practice... course, we've got a war to attend to.

  • IS there any of this in los angeles or san diego?

  • Where do you think it started....California @ Berkley back in the 1960s. Just do a search for SCA...you will find what you need. CB

  • Look up Barony of Dreiburgen (San Diego) or Barony of the Angels (LA) online. There will be details about their meetings and activities there.

  • how old do u have to be to join??

  • There are no age restrictions on being a member, but I think you need to be 18 to fight in Caid (Southern Claifornia). You would have to check with locals (I'm in Australia).

  • west kingdom (california north and nevada) you have to be 10 yr to rapier fight and 16 to heavy fight, but you can be a part of the sca at any age without fighting

  • lucky in pittsburgh you have to be 18 to heavy fight

  • fix that you must be 18 to fight, i was tired when i wrote that hit wrong button

  • Dreiburgen = Riverside

    Calafia = San Diego

  • Greatest experience of my entire life (1976 to 1987). Lord William 'the Wolf' of Blackcastle, CSS (retired). Hoozaa!!!!!!!

  • where is this in australia??

    is it in Victoria!?

    coz if so...

    i have found heaven.

  • This isn't in Albury-Wodonga, but there are several groups in Victoria. Do a search online for Shire of Krae Glas, Barony of Stormhold or Shire of Arrowsreach. those are the Melbourne based groups, and there are groups in Ballarat, Bendigo and Albury-Wodonga, and at least one interested person in Shepparton.

  • Very cool, when can we expect the other parts?

  • What I want to know is the English/Australian guy single? He's cute and funny as hell... Shut up your dead... Lmao...

  • He was very happily taken last I heard. Sorry.

  • great video.

  • Im joining the sca in my local area and would like any tips for gathering heavyfighting gear

  • Well first off, make sure you know what kind of armour you want. Then the material. Leather stores are good for not only leather, but buckles and copper rivets, which you'll need. If you want to save some money, try using aluminum roofing nails with a washer as rivets.

If you don't get a helmet for your birthday, then I suggest ebay. They've got decent stuff.

  • thank you

  • thank you for your help

  • Don't go all out on your first suit of armor. 2 reasons: 1) you might decide that this isn't for you and you don't want to have spent a lot of money on the gear and 2) your first suit will likely get beaten up a log for the first year or three. Wait until you get good for the really spiffy stuf.

  • If you need any links to where you can buy armor let me know. Otherwise you can go to an SCA Event and buy Armor and then there is "The Renaissance Store" look it up on the internet. They have armor too.

  • I wish all SCA videos were this well produced and informative. Would make it a lot easier to explain why I dress up and beat people with sticks on the weekends to my mundane friends.

  • lol

  • not all scadians were outcasts in school. just most

  • To be a geek is not to be an outcast. I just came out of my schooling, and was popular enough. But I'm certainly in the SCA, and I'm certainly a geek!

  • "We're still geeks, just geeks with really big swords." Love that line. Great doco!

  • Nice doco. Pete, you did really well explaining it all. I was sitting there going, oh yay, I know that person, and that person and that person heheee.

  • The guy all dressed in red is awsome!

  • OMG, this is great. Looking for Part 2.

  • you gotta love the line "you're stepping on me" "aye shut up you're dead"

  • OK, I watched it at least 4 times at Borderwar, and have watched it at least every night since, as well as emailing to all my email list. I still resent the camera being on me when talking about ugly armour, and being scared of the glave. I wasnt scared, just unprepared.

    Top video.

  • Excellent stuff!

  • Loved it!! Great Doco, Just one thing though I think this would be much better if someone died during the making of it... so you can have that in the end credits, you know "two months after the filming of this documentry Brian Smith died while defending his wife's honour on the battle field"

Apart from that it was fantastic - cannot wait for the next installment.

  • Way Cool, guys.

  • Really like the doco man, I've just started in the SCA and I'll be at the Rowany festival too, I'll be under the name "Rowan the Pirate". Have done my own short films so if you need help filming stuff at the events just let me know. Look forward to seeing the full doco.
