being an ambidextrous person (who can play tennis with both hands like this), i suggest you pick a hand and stay with it bc once you get to play against people who can really hit with pace, it'll be very tough to switch hands to hit. you should just focus on getting ur racket back early to hit well. and to be honest, ur barely a 4.0. ur serve is good, but everyone can see that ur groundies aren't up to a 4.5 and up at all. and i doubt u can compete with a 6.0, or else those players are terrible
Going pro? Are you serious?! Nobody who doesn't play tennis for 4 years has a chance at going pro. Your strokes are decent at best, but I know many 16s players in my section that could beat you easily. When I saw this video I googled your name and a year after this video was posted you were still playing opens...
He will never go pro because it is impossible to play like this against someone who knows what they are doing in a game of tennis, the reason is that he will simply not have enough time to change hands and maneuverability will be an issue. and also i have a double handed back hand and any one else who also has a double handed backhand will understand that it is not very hard to hit a forehand with both hands, that said the fat that is can serve with both hands is amazing and very useful.
Ok so the guy plays with two forehands so?? i mean how is this related on using your whole brain?? i dont get it. Explanation needed on the description
@ignacioambort The fact that he is able to use either hand to hit forehands and serve indicates that he is using more of his brain power to produce these unusual motor controls . Most people do not have this ability because their brain's are wired only one side for serious coordination.
@wholebrainplanet As far as i´m concerned the left side of the brain works step by step on learning something (secuencialy) and the right side of the brain learns with "images" all in one. So this is why i think that the fact that he is Ambidextrous doesnt mean anything. For me is all about the learning process. I´m a tennis instructor myself (and im passioned about education) and kids when they are under 5 years old are all ambidietrous. We teach to play bothanders because is tennis evolution
@ignacioambort long story short, your left side of your brain controls your right side. and your right side of your brain controls your left side of your whole body, so if your a righty, you use ur left side of your brain to move it. but if youre ambidextrious, you control both side of your body therefore you are using all of your brain :)
@ignacioambort im full ambidextrous too. The left side of our brain give move to our right hand, and the right one give move tour left hand. Thats why ambidxtrs players use their wholebrain.
I have actually played ambidextrous before and I have to say that it is very effective as your opponent doesn't expect you to hit a forehand on the backhand side and it confuses them. I have only one question... when you are playing someone who hits powerful shots to both sides... how can you change grip quicker as that it basically all I need to be able to play with both hands.
I have always struggled changing grips and i would appreciate your assistance.
@bwa123forlife It is just a matter of practicing juggling the racquet back and forth between your hands. You will be surprised at how fast you get at the change. Check out my book. It has all kinds of secrets to improve at ambidexterity. Hammer
@wholebrainplanet thanks for the tip... i may try playing with both hands again !!! one other comment.. do you know what grip he uses ?? it seems like he hits with an extreme grip as it looks like he hist straight up the ball. BwA
So is your theory to teach all players to play ambidextrous tennis? I am ambidextrous and a certified tennis professional for 6 years, so I have given a lot of thought to these subjects.
My concern is that many studies have shown that forcing children to use their non-dominant hand in certain activities can potentially lead to learning disabilities.
@donavonmatthews1 My theory is written about in my book, Whole Brain Power. The studies about forcing a child to use the non dominant hand are based upon stopping the dominant hand from doing what it wants to do. That include eating and writing. This causes all kinds of problems. My opinion is that musical training such as piano which requires lots of ambidexterity is what leads to super learning.
Nadal was switched to his left arm by uncle Toni and he has done prettty well. Hammer
Wow! Pretty good service power on both arms. The downside to this technique is that you have to train double the time for your serve. The best thing to do is to use the most powerful arm for the serve and focus on it on training.
this looks awesome but yeah is form is really ugly and this ambidextrous tennis may take years because not everyone has the ability to play left and right.
Ugly preperation ... the non hitting arm should be shoulder high and inline with the baseline ... watch pros ... and it seems that you generate spin from the wrist ... otherwise good shots
I feel like on both sides he doesn't extend his arm enough. its like hes muscling the ball. This was two years ago so he probably alot better now. Best of luck to him going pro though, it's really good that he's dedicated. Does he still play other sports now or just focusing in on tennis?

@wholebrainplanet am i the one putting myself up on public eyes for criticism? lmao. the saddest situation is when you have to defend yourself by asking what the public can show. If he's an aspiring pro, is he going to ask what every critic what they can do? i.e. if federer plays a certain shot in poor form, and is criticized by john mcenroe? does john mcenroe have to display the better form to make his criticism legitimate?
@CerebralPrince10 lmao, alright, then is this "ambidextrous player" a pro? :( If you wana use that argument on me, you'll have to look at the relativity of this player. @gabe228 before you take shots at me I'd like for you to look at the videos of my channel, starting with the video that is posted as a video response called "Ambidextrous Table Tennis Phenom".
The point I'm trying to make is that you are someone with NO credentials criticizing a high school district singles champion (there are more videos of his ambidextrous tennis improvement on the whole brain planet account) Johnny Mac is a proven HOF calliber tennis player.
@gabe228 Just "look at the relativity" of you in comparison to the person you are criticizing and then compare McEnroe to Federer. Also if McEnroe were to criticize Federer everybody would know about it, you can flap your yap and hide behind anonymity.
And in case I had to make it clear i do not live in my mothers basement.
I'm an advanced player who, due to right arm injury, can no longer let the racket drop fully behind my back to help generate service whip. I may be better off with a lefty serve. Can anyone put me in touch with Chris or Michael Lavery or anyone who could help personally? I think I'd do better with the right help, not just reading and working alone. I'm willing to pay. My coach plays on the pro tour, but this is a unique problem for him. Paul, Los Angeles, athlete at linkline dot commm

Absolute strength refers to what a person is doing in the weight room. Functional strength is a determination of how naturally strong a person is. For instance lots of farm boys from the past had lots of functional strength from working with their hands and were extremely strong at baseball and yet did not do bench pressing etc. Through repitition of working with their arms in doing farm work and then throwing a ball and swinging a bat they became extremely strong.

ummm , I'm an ambidextrous tennis player , I use two forehands :) , when I injured my right hand I startet playing with my left hand cause I really have the urge to play tennis , then by the time my right hand healed that's when I became ambidextrous :)
We are working on videos of Steven with his awesome skateboarding skills and both Chris and James can hit baseballs very well as switch hitters. I hope your Whole Brain Power training is going well. I am looking forward to some of your new posts. Hammer

It is good to hear that you are having success at your ambidexterity in your football and tennis. Hopefully you can check out my book Whole Brain Power and learn some of the methods that enhance your talents.
im left but i play right LOL weird i know but i can play left but im not that great left for me is a fuck around hand n i get serious with my right so ill play left n when i see they get serious ill go right n they'll be like W T F
I hope that Laguna wins in the semi-finals and gets to play against you guys. Chris is a fun player to go up against. Good luck. I hope you can check out my book Whole Brain Power. It is being used by lots of athletes.
Chris would be more than happy to challenge anything that you have to offer. Come on down to Southern Ca and see what you can show the tennis world. Hammer
If he can hit backhands when he's in a tight situation, this skill could really revelutionise play. Changing hands isn't always more efficient when you are trying to do it fast. Do it when you have time and hit backhands accordingly would be more efficient than changing hands for every shot.
I appreciate your input. Chris has the ability to hit backhands as well. He usually will use the two handed backhand when the situation calls. He is surprising people with his unusual style. He just won the Orange Coast Singles Title.
then, i can see the advantage of this playing style when it's mastered. the fact that this has not been done before regularly is quite suprising, since i'm sure that everyone has once thought about hitting two forehands since it seems like the way out of the backhand trap. it's weird that such style is so rare and never seen on the pro tours.
I believe that at the present Chris is mastering this ambidextrous style more than any other player in the world. It works at the high school level and I can see it working at the college level and even in the pros. Check out the latest videos of his game. He is always improving.
Ambidextrous tennis is legal on the pro tour. Beverly Baker Fleitz played with two single handed forehands in the 50's and Luke Jensen served with either arm and won the French Open. A player is not required to hit a backhand if that is his or her intention. Hammer
Keep on working on the left handed serve and build up the strength in your wrist and the pain will go away. After you start to serve 100 mph with the left hand you will be diificult to play against. Hammer
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
i weigh 109 and my shots are harder than yours. weight will not help you hit it harder in tennis and your shots are not as fast as you think, go get them checked via radar. it would be incredibly easy for me to throw you off balance due to your high weight, being heavy means you cant change direction as fast.
also, if you weight like 190 now youll be 200+ by the time youre 20 lol. try boxing instead
2. Lebron James weighs 260 and he's as quick as a cat. A basketball player might not be the best example but many people who have alot of muscle are still really agile.
Chris, keep up the good work---I'm doing the same or similar thing in new york's long island as a 9.0 player(5.0 righty and 4.5 lefty)....would love to hit sometime
5.0 righty? 4.5 lefty? sweet ive been wanting to challenge a 9.0 soon, sounds fun,if i could rank my left hand i'd say 3.5-3.7,until my left builds up some endurance, i'll only be able to play with it in a quick paced match for mayb 15mins,but its fun to try competitive play with ur non-dominant hand.
yeah, the lefty(non-dominant)serve thing is tough--I only get it p to 75-80mph myself,,,but swinging/slicing it out wide to a righty's backhand in the ad court(especially when there's a left-to right wind ,and/or the blinding sun is at 1 or 2oclock making the toss an issue......or even in the duece court slicing it down the T......let's hit if you're ever in NY or so.florida....
Technically its not too hard if u practice, but unfortunately for me my serve speed is reduced from 117 to 70 when i use my left hand, lol thats not too fast.
Chris must be the son of Michael Lavery, who convinced me 10 years ago to try to become an ambidextrous player. If they're from Laguna Beach, then it's the same guy. As a matter of fact, that court looks familiar..is it the court at the Top of the World?
mmm, a lefty and a righty, means you get half the life times practice with both hands so i hope you are training 8 hours a day instead of 4, good luck champ
uh no cos he doesnt learn backhand with both hands , so its the same but sooo unpredictable in a match you're so surprised you dont know where to shoot
great stuff! looks like Chris has little trouble changing grip in time. I'd love to see a player doing this successfully as a pro, perhaps it may happen.

wow, impressive! I hope this guy will become a pro and Nadal will be happy to play with him. BTW, can a tennis player switch hand in the middle of a match? Are there any rules? Thanks.
rexsonyful 2 years ago
Thanks for the comment. Please check out other videos of Chris on our wholebrainplanet channel. He has improved since this post. The player can change the racquet during points. Plus he can serve with either arm too in the match. Check out my book Whole Brain Power. Hammer

Take a look at the other videos of Chris on my wholebrainplanet channel. He has improved quite a bit since this was shot last year. If you want to learn more about how to become a totally ambidextrous player you can find lots of info in my book Whole Brain Power. Thanks for your comment.

ummm , I'm an ambidextrous tennis player , I use two forehands :) , when I injured my right hand I startet playing with my left hand cause I really have the urge to play tennis , then by the time my right hand healed that's when I became ambidextrous :)
daekoaram1990 2 years ago
I would like to see what kind of skills you have at ambidextrous tennis. Maybe you can post a video,
wholebrainplanet 2 years ago
do you have any videos of Chris, James, and/or Steven in other sports besides tennis and golf?
CerebralPrince10 2 years ago
We are working on videos of Steven with his awesome skateboarding skills and both Chris and James can hit baseballs very well as switch hitters. I hope your Whole Brain Power training is going well. I am looking forward to some of your new posts. Hammer

this is the dumbest thing i've ever seen

If this is the dumbest thing you have ever seen you must not watch any current movies. Come on down to So. Cal and lets see how you do against Chris. Maybe you can post your tennis skills to see if it is worth his time. Hammer

TheLittlestRiceball5 2 years ago
I appreciate your input. Chris has the ability to hit backhands as well. He usually will use the two handed backhand when the situation calls. He is surprising people with his unusual style. He just won the Orange Coast Singles Title.
wholebrainplanet 2 years ago
then, i can see the advantage of this playing style when it's mastered. the fact that this has not been done before regularly is quite suprising, since i'm sure that everyone has once thought about hitting two forehands since it seems like the way out of the backhand trap. it's weird that such style is so rare and never seen on the pro tours.
TheLittlestRiceball5 2 years ago
I believe that at the present Chris is mastering this ambidextrous style more than any other player in the world. It works at the high school level and I can see it working at the college level and even in the pros. Check out the latest videos of his game. He is always improving.
wholebrainplanet 2 years ago
ambidextrous play style isn't allowed on proffesional tennis...tough luck kid...still gotta use a backhand
..
coolioseven 2 years ago
Ambidextrous tennis is legal on the pro tour. Beverly Baker Fleitz played with two single handed forehands in the 50's and Luke Jensen served with either arm and won the French Open. A player is not required to hit a backhand if that is his or her intention. Hammer

Keep on working on the left handed serve and build up the strength in your wrist and the pain will go away. After you start to serve 100 mph with the left hand you will be diificult to play against. Hammer

This comment has received too many negative votes show
i weigh 109 and my shots are harder than yours. weight will not help you hit it harder in tennis and your shots are not as fast as you think, go get them checked via radar. it would be incredibly easy for me to throw you off balance due to your high weight, being heavy means you cant change direction as fast.
also, if you weight like 190 now youll be 200+ by the time youre 20 lol. try boxing instead
ProjectCat9000 3 years ago
1. If you hit harder prove it post a vid
2. Lebron James weighs 260 and he's as quick as a cat. A basketball player might not be the best example but many people who have alot of muscle are still really agile.
3. If you weigh 109 I'd go see a doctor

Chris, keep up the good work---I'm doing the same or similar thing in new york's long island as a 9.0 player(5.0 righty and 4.5 lefty)....would love to hit sometime
pianomanal2000 3 years ago
5.0 righty? 4.5 lefty? sweet ive been wanting to challenge a 9.0 soon, sounds fun,if i could rank my left hand i'd say 3.5-3.7,until my left builds up some endurance, i'll only be able to play with it in a quick paced match for mayb 15mins,but its fun to try competitive play with ur non-dominant hand.
AtobeTanhausser01 3 years ago
yeah, the lefty(non-dominant)serve thing is tough--I only get it p to 75-80mph myself,,,but swinging/slicing it out wide to a righty's backhand in the ad court(especially when there's a left-to right wind ,and/or the blinding sun is at 1 or 2oclock making the toss an issue......or even in the duece court slicing it down the T......let's hit if you're ever in NY or so.florida....
pianomanal2000 3 years ago
sounds good
AtobeTanhausser01 3 years ago
atobe,my reply to your comment ended up right above yours here instead of right below
pianomanal2000 3 years ago
Technically its not too hard if u practice, but unfortunately for me my serve speed is reduced from 117 to 70 when i use my left hand, lol thats not too fast.

whats amazing is that he can serve with both arms. thats rare.
fedex19912000 3 years ago
if you don't go to state in school then you have no chance of going pro, even then your nobody untile you get in the top 15 in your region.
fedex19912000 3 years ago
Chris must be the son of Michael Lavery, who convinced me 10 years ago to try to become an ambidextrous player. If they're from Laguna Beach, then it's the same guy. As a matter of fact, that court looks familiar..is it the court at the Top of the World?
berkeleyhome 3 years ago
mmm, a lefty and a righty, means you get half the life times practice with both hands so i hope you are training 8 hours a day instead of 4, good luck champ
RafaeINadal 3 years ago
uh no cos he doesnt learn backhand with both hands , so its the same but sooo unpredictable in a match you're so surprised you dont know where to shoot
noidea4aName 3 years ago
wait, how do you have a spiritual relationship with tennis?
bluenigma 3 years ago
I don't know. It's great to have the ability but the strokes have quite a windup to them, a little loopy, you know?
It won't be much of a problem on clay but on faster surfaces I could see it being a hindrance.
10aces 3 years ago
great stuff! looks like Chris has little trouble changing grip in time. I'd love to see a player doing this successfully as a pro, perhaps it may happen.
