I got to play a Jem 6 like that in the early 1990's...It was pretty strange since I wasnt used toa solid body,locking nut, fine tuners or tremelo ..guess I should have plugged it in..since they seem very responsive amped.

In the first 5 or 8 years that I started to play guitar, I never tuned with a tuner. And then I stopped playing the guitar, perhaps for that very reason. After a few months ago I got a tuner for Android, and tune my guitar with that, and really never thought it could sound so good.

As Steve Vai said, that the first simple rule, and if you do not, really can sound terrible.
