  • That language is so beautiful!

  • It would be helpful if you could write the pinyin as well. mǎ instead of ma3 would be the preferable method, by the way. I think just giving the tone would be helpful (just write 1,2,3,4, or 5 under the character) since some struggle with tones through only listening. I get your idea though, and these are really helpful.

  • xie xie

  • Awesome vid!!!! Love it :) Thanks heaps

  • Clear and concise...God bless you for this!!

  • Xie xie

  • this was great. thanks!

  • have my baby

  • You need to "juanshe" (curl your tongue) more in words like "shi" and "zhong" and "sheng"! Otherwise you end up with a southern or Taiwanese accent!! :)

  • Thanks, you'r not boring but you should also write how the words are pronounced in English; it;s a good mnemonic device for students

  • You are doing really well. I have various chinese cards and books, but to really get started I needed someone to do the very basic sounds and how they are written. You not only got me started, but my children found your style so interesting, that they got their white-boards and started following you in writing. Keep up the good work, and if there is feedback from more advanced chinese, please incorporate it but keep your style. Well done!

It's really interesting, I think it's a great way to learn chinese with learning the characters the same time (especially for japanese people^^), but I'm also looking forward to some grammar!

    Thank you for teaching :)

  • Ni hao. I think it would be better for people if you write the pinyin outt. It shows then how to pronounce & then people will be able to prounce it betterr. & also. Make sure u specify clearlyy which one is traditional & which one is simplified. Xiexie.

  • it would really help if you wrote the chinese words in like umbb english but with the accents and stuff (":

  • agree, you better teach English to Chinese people

  • Xie Xie!

  • rosetta stone sucks

  • students, don't worry too much about pronunciation. i have lived in HK, taiwan, hainan and dalian. in each location, the residentsof each place insisted that they had the proper speech. get it in your head. this teacher here is close enough that any chinese person in china will understand you well enough. enjoy.

  • hi... I am planning to learn chinese now. I found that your lesson is very clear and useful. Pls do continue for next lessons. :) Thank you so much..

  • I'm currently learning Japanese as my second language, and after that I am moving on to Chinese. (maybe a little in between)

Your tutorial is good I learned a few words from it! :)

  • fom a completely fluent chinese speaker's point of view, your pronounciation is not very good; its been westernised. also your writing is quite sloppy

  • your chinese is not ok, i m sorry to say. i hope the students won't be guided the wrong way .i am really sorry to say , " is" "是“should be pronounced as "shi" not "si"

中 also should be pronouced as " zhong" not "zong"

i think if you teach English is better.

  • the chinese writing system makes absolutely no sense

  • well actually it does. it's like a meta-code. just imagine u could go anywhere u want to, no matter which country and you could read and understand everything! spoken chinese is not all the same, but the writing is (only some exceptions)

  • ¿por qué eligiste ver este video si no te gusta ni el inglés ni el chino? ¿el título no te explicó lo que era antes de verlo? bueno, te puedo solucionar tu problema con esta chica. es muy fácil: si no escribís la palabra "chinese," así en inglés, cuando hacés una busqueda, no encontrarás videos que se tratan del chino en inglés. :-)

  • chinese isn't an ethnicity, it's a nationality. I think you probably mean Han.

  • im italian and i study english... i learn the chinese language in english, im very fun!! you transmit happiness and speak simple, anyone can see if I understand! tanks for lession ^^

  • You are a very good teacher, but your Chinese words and saying are kinda of off a little bit. and you have sloppy handwriting.

  • Well Chinese is my second language, so obviously I'm gonna have an accent and my handwriting isn't going to look like a native Chinese person's but this is just for fun, not to be taken seriously.

  • CELEBRITYADDICT, Thank you for your great lesson! Please make more! ^_^

    >like the word SHI (to be), you pronounce it >with the S sound of the word sink

AFAIK, although the most standard way (Beijing) is really SHI, still SI is OK. Quite many Chinese pronounce SI. I even wonder whether not the majority. If you come to Singapore or Taiwan you'll hear mainly 'SHI, DJI,..' instead of 'SI, DZI,..'. Either way should be OK. You'll be understood. More important - pay attention to the tones!!!

  • Sorry, I mistyped. In Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia (Southern) places you'll most probably hear 'SI, DZI,...' instead of 'SHI, DJI,...'. The second type is the Beijing (Northern) way.

  • Yeah I am taiwanese so I pronounce 'shi' as 'si' but yeah I know what you mean :)

  • you are a great teacher!! but you have an accent that sounds particularly not standard... like the word SHI (to be), you pronounce it with the S sound of the word sink. my teacher (beijing native) says it is more like the SH sound in the english word sure. like SHRR... with a very sharp and pronounced R sound at the end. is mandarin your regional dialect?

  • Your video is a scream. I wanted to try a few lessons online before I dive into a college level class and your informal lesson, especially the writing is helpful in helping overcome my fear of writing-please keep up the strong work!

  • i love ur chinese videos i watch them all time

  • Thanks for the lessons, i am just starting to learn.. but i think you cant say "wo xiang ni" as "i like you" cause my teacher tought me its different from spanish, you cant say wo yao ni or wo xiang ni , for love i heard yo could say "wo ai ni" i would be waiting for your response as i want to be sure, THANX FOR THE VID ill chek out your other lessons

  • did you say nigga? i thought it was different? i was told something else

    xx

  • RAD! thanks!

  • Please continue teaching. You are very good. I started learning chinese some years ago then stopped. I would like to start back learning and this is a very good way to learn. XIE XIE !!!!!

  • Very good! Please keep going. Your choice of words/phrases to teach us is the best bit about your teaching.

  • I've never seen Chinese taught so easily! Please continue

  • I hope you're not lying I'll use this! :3

  • I AM TRY CHINESE WITH YOUR VIDEO

  • There is a Chinese couple working at the local snackbar here , and I always give them a paper wit hthe order^^ so I'm gonna try write 'hello' on it next time.

  • i miss your chinese lessons (and fiveawesomeasians)!!

  • awesome. this is mandarin, right?

  • yep.

  • i reall your liked your video and i told my other friends to watch this one because i thought it was an awesome video!!!!!! i am fluent in cantonese too so i am just writing the characters down for my friends to practice so keep posting videos and i felt good about watching someone just as fluent as i am speak cantonese. nee nuh? anyways love the video !!!! keep posting!

  • hmm, some words she pronounced differently from how I knew it, but it wasnt different enough to be a different dialect. she also did the "men" character differently than how i knew it, and some of the strokes weren't consistent. but hell, what do I know? i've only learned chinese for one semester.

  • great video, i am a student of chinese and japanese. All that i can get helps and i found this lesson very easy to follow. PLEASE continue i would love to see more

  • hey!! you're so good as a teacher! thanx for this, it has been really helpful! =)

  • This is really helpful! I took Chinese in college briefly but I loved it and I am trying to pick up again. This is really nice.

    Xie Xie!

  • This is very helpful, be nice to have more lessons on Chinese.

  • why are ppl criticizing her for?! girl, dont listen to any of them with the whole cantonese crap.

you're awesome, and you make mandarin fun!! <3

  • Lol dude its mandarin O_o

  • Sorry but I study chinese mandarin from 2 years and what can i hear here is not mandarin but another kind of dialect.

  • You're mistaken. I've studied mandarin chinese formally since I was 5. I am chinese. I am pretty sure my first words were in mandarin chinese. Cantonese originates from Hong Kong/Guan Dong. My parents are Taiwanese. What do they speak in Taiwan? Mandarin Chinese and Taiwanese. Not Cantonese.

  • It's cantonese not mandarin

  • Uhm no. It's Mandarin. I'd think I'd know what dialect I am speaking.

  • is this cantonese or mandarin?

  • mandarin

  • wo shi jong gwo ren.

haha my mando sucks. im only good at canto

  • Is "jiao" only used for introducing yourself???

  • no "jiao" by itself means "yelling"

  • But when you say, "Wo jiao" then your name..Ummm..It's correct for introducing yourself, right?

  • yeahh.

  • Xie xie ni!!!...^.^

  • i didnt think this was boring at all :) xie xie

  • Hey youre awesome!

Ni tai hao le xD =]

Keep it up, imma keep watching xD

  • aw xiexie! :)

  • Why dont u have glasses here? Why dont u just wear contacts then? =p

  • I'm not the kind of person who wear contacts all the time once I get contacts. Sometimes I'm too lazy to put contacts in so in some of my videos I'm wearing glasses and some of them I'm not.

  • i have never seen a chinese girl write so bad chenese character, so many wrong character, what a pity

  • uhhh I didnt write ANY wrong characters, thanks.

My handwriting may be ugly but dont say that I've written wrong characters.

  • I want to learn chinese, and this is great!!!!!!

    thankss

    ..keep going =D

  • ahhh... my head hurts... im learning japanese right now since i already know english and spanish and im trying to learn new things so im gonna o with japanese and mandarin/chinese, and later other things such ass french, italian, Portuguese, and Latin... yes i have no life so what the hell..... hey you have msn!

  • Brill!!! Not boring at all...Please keep going.

  • thank u thank u thank u. I started to learn it 20 minutes ago... and decided to check out some videos... it is so hard language, but im gonna do it!!

  • You're a good teacher!

I know "wo" means "I" or "me," but by itself, can it also mean "my," or do you HAVE to add "de" at the end?

  • you have to add "de" to make it "mine"

  • Thanks a bunch.

  • this video is so good! too bad it's cantonese that i have to learn!

  • thanks a lot!!!

I am learning this lesson right now..Let me get back to it..lol

  • So the am/is/are word is used with an adjective only.

  • you're amazing :)

  • Yes! Your lessons are the best!We are waiting at your next video!

    I agree,not boring at all!

  • Excellent! Its like video 1 to 1 tuition, better than Chinesepod (just audio).

And you're not boring! Continue please, very kind of you!

  • u r great

    thanx 4 this lesson

  • How nice you are..cheers!

  • i like traditional characters :-D

  • You are very good at teaching. GOOD JOB!!!!

  • Chinese writing is difficult, but you explain very well...谢谢!

  • really nice !!! I learned a lot!

  • Awesome teaching, please continue! - many thanks :) I am keen to understand Mandarin - could I ask a question... Elsewhere I think I hear shi (to be) pronounced with the sh sound, do you say "si" because of differences in dialect? Xie xie, zai jian :)

  • "shi" can be heard in China, more acurately-- the Northern part of China.

"si" is heard in Taiwan/some parts of Southern China (like Hong Kong-ish area)

Since I'm southern, or atleast my parents are(Taiwanese)... I'm used to saying, "si"

  • Does chinese language has 3 differents ways of writting as japanese does?

  • Wo xiang ni zhong hua de fayin bu hao. Ni ye xiezi bu hao.

  • 你不喜欢我的中文发音或我写的中文字就不要看我的video了。

    Easy as that, douchebag.

  • LOL! Bie ku le. Don't sweat it, I was just kidding. I've only taken two semesters of Mandarin myself. Not to mention, the last class I took was twelve years ago so I'm really rusty with just the little bit I know. I was able to read your reply, although I had to stumble over the siplified characters. I never liked those. I know Taiwan and even China have moved toward mostly simplified, which is a shame. I think traditionals are much more elegant and aesthetic.

  • lets get married !

  • sure :)

  • good job
