I'm doing research before deciding what engine I want, so I'm going to ask you, why did you choose the silvertop over the black top? What do you like about the silver top?
Price and availability, the silvertop also has a stronger bottom end.
The silvertop parts were way cheaper and easier to get than blacktop parts.
The blacktop has a superior engine management to the silvertop. The silvertop's vane airflow sensor is the weak point, but I haven't had much trouble with it. The blacktop will turn a couple hundred rpm more than the silvertop.
One issue with both engines is the vvt actuator, mine started leaking oil through the solenoid into the electric socket
hey dude is the 1.6 liter automatic harsh on shifting?...im thinking of getting one with that engine..but i heard its not to kind...whats your opinion?
Beat up old prism + 20v swap = ultimate sleeper.

i too have a 94 prizm. where could i find one these motors. what kinda money would i need? and you said its vairalble timing, like v-tec?

prisms dont have 4age. they have 4afe and 7afe. i own a turbocharged 7afe 1.8 liter in my 1994 toyota corolla

I have a standard transmission. The automatics are not harsh shifters when they are working properly.

From Japan? They export used engines. Good idea to have it shipped FOB to you in a container.
