Great singing and peaceful protest. Whilst some prices will go down, on the whole things get more expensive for the town. There will be less jobs, less creativity, less organic range, less local produce etc, etc.
I agree with Byron, large company tactic is to enter at a low price, knock down competition then up prices when there's no longer a choice. Happening in Albany a lot too. Woolworths have their place in big cities, lets leave them there and allow small towns to retain their character.
Just like to point out the half of the people shop at woolies and one of the chief people protesting about it was seen shopping in woolies up the coast
Errr...hate to break it to you, but the entire Woolworths chain went bankrupt in the UK and every single Woolworths closed down. They never sold fruit & veg though...just household goods, electrical, toys etc.
mullumbimby had the chance to have a larger supermarket in their town. which would've been ran by LOCALS who grew up in the town. it still would've of been called mallams still same works too just bigger and cheaper. but you just had to protest which put them into det which made them have to sell to woolworths. ( the only australian grocery company). so really YOU BRANG WOOLWORTHS TO MULLUM. and half the people who own shops in mullum arn't even locals in the first place
The suckers who support a Woolworts box will be sorry when: all the little busineses are forced out of business: Woolworts puts up prices; the money the businesses used to make leaves town and goes to shareholders; they have to buy month old, manky over priced vegies; the middle aged suckers who now work for mallams go over to Woolworts and are replaced with 15 year olds, paid $12.50 an hour; the traffic from the bogans form Ocean Shores flocking to Mullum chokes the town. Boycott Woolwort's!
do you really think a clothes store would go out of bussines cause of woolworths and i bet you have friends and family on ocean shores so are calling your friends and family bogans. yes you are gezz i bet you well have a lot of friends soo
Great song! Great voice! Only 14 years old ... that's fantastic! I'm not going to get into the politics of the situation, but I think the singer / songwriter is going to go a long way! This is an awesome song!
has anyone had a look at there docket after shopping at iga or mallams in mullumbimby? they charge a fortune. im sick of having to drive to ocean shores to do my shopping. i cant wait to shop at woolies... best thing to happen to mullum in years...

Prices at Woolworths will only be cheap until they have put the local fruit and veg, butchers and bakers out of business. Then have another look at your docket.
Great song. I live in Maleny and we had our own struggle a few years back. Only a concerted effort by local people to continue supporting our small stores and local supermarket in the face of undercutting saved our main street. We lost our battle to keep them out, but we did win concessions in that they had to abandon a larger box design and make a more aesthetically pleasing building facade. We are busy growing trees along Obi Obi Creek to fully screen it out from view. Good onya Mullum.
omg i love u rachel stevens ur sooo bloody amazing

@fretboardyoda What a stupid argument . you don't need to inherit money to have an alternative lifestyle , in fact the opposite is more true.
