I love his music so much. I had never heard of him until I visited Hawaii. His heart and soul are so exposed through his music. What a tremendous loss for all of us who love his music.

Unless you're an athlete (and nobody will EVER mistake this beached whale for an athlete, unless you consider stuffing your face an athletic endeavor) an enlarged heart is the OPPOSITE of healthy. Hearts become enlarged due to reasons related to heart failure. Most enlarged hearts are rigid, thereby ineffective pumps, ejecting water into the lungs, choking off breath. So if having a giant soul means having to have a huge heart and 1000 pound body, I'll pass, thank you.

This guy is amazing. I hear him a lot on this Hawaiian station that comes on Dish Network and I just think of him as the guy with the long name and the amazing voice.
I am mesmerized by Israel's music. I hadn't heard until last night when someone sent me "Over the Rainbow" and I sat here and listened to that over 20 times, I know. They were singing as a group from the 70's, If you are looking for him by searching for his name, will come up with his solo albums. Need to search for the group, to find CD's that they have done for over 20 years. They broke up when IZ went solo, and the others became the Makaha Sons. Couple on YouTube are Mehameha/White Sandy Beach, Rusty Old Steampipes, He Touched Me, I'll Remember You.

Technical brilliance can be a great boost for the ego and terrific for playing by (or with) yourself, but music's ability to touch the hearts of others is what makes it special. I'll have to take your word for it that Iz was flat on every note, it really doesn't matter. He will be loved and remembered and listened to long after you are gone.
Having just discovered Iz and being deeply touched by his music and his huge heart, I am astonished by the amount of angry and nasty comments on his videos. Perhaps these responses further reflect the true greatness that he personified.

I am mesmerized by Israel's music. I hadn't heard until last night when someone sent me "Over the Rainbow" and I sat here and listened to that over 20 times, I know. Then I sat here another two hours listening to his other videos. He is amazing! Absolutely amazing! RIP Israel....you just gained another very devoted fan! For those that criticize his looks, or hate on him, listen to the words of this song, you don't KNOW him. I know his music without even knowing him. It's a shame I took so long to discover Brudda IZ. He has so much more than just music, but a heart to go with it. He sings from the soul and loves people, but still has pride for his Hawaiian culture.
~~anyone happen to know if Brudda IZ had a condition that made him get so big, or did he not care? I'm just asking, cuz it's so sad that his time was so short on this earth as a result. He could have blessed us with so much more beautiful music. RIP!

They were singing as a group from the 70's, If you are looking for him by searching for his name, will come up with his solo albums. Need to search for the group, to find CD's that they have done for over 20 years. They broke up when IZ went solo, and the others became the Makaha Sons. Couple on YouTube are Mehameha/White Sandy Beach, Rusty Old Steampipes, He Touched Me, I'll Remember You.

A ukelele, a couple of chords, his voice and a whole lot of heart and soul was all that he needed to make music that is loved and listened to around the world.

@MrDidjcripey By the way, your insistent remarks about his pitch suggest a limited and restricted approach to music (though I guess that a piano is not able to bend or slur notes). The 'blue third' for example, can be less than a quarter tone below pitch and is often played as an ascending tone (starting a quarter tone below and rising to an unspecified point somewhere below the third) It is these variations that allow greater expression and subtlety.

Technical brilliance can be a great boost for the ego and terrific for playing by (or with) yourself, but music's ability to touch the hearts of others is what makes it special. I'll have to take your word for it that Iz was flat on every note, it really doesn't matter. He will be loved and remembered and listened to long after you are gone.
