I believe these were the best tutorials I have ever watched under any subject. You explain things so well and point out little things that most people would get stumped on. Thanks for the video.
Nice tutorial however it's incomplete, what about actually putting the texture on the hat? I was doing so well and then all of a sudden no part 3 :( How do you actually load up a texture onto a model? I don't want a model to have that letters texture :(
@FullCircle360D Yea, there are a lot more features to the UV mapping tools in Wings3d. I intend to do a few more tutorials covering some of them.
To address your question, I generally just leave the letter map and change it after I import the model in my animating and rendering software. You can render in Wings with some plugins though. Just import an image then, in the Outliner window, drag the image on top of the shader. A pop up will ask you what channel of the shader you want it in.
You mean to make a UV template? In the UV editor window you can go to "View" in the menu up top, select "Show/Hide background image" To get rid of the ugly distortion guide. Then right-click in a blank area of the texture map area and select "Create Texture" which will create a pop up menu with a few options.
Now a UV map texture should appear in the outliner window. You can right click on it and export it to anywhere on your hard drive that you prefer.
When you export to .obj, your textures will show up in whatever location you selected for the .obj and .mtl files. Alternately if you want to view or work on your maps while in wings, you can pick textures in the outliner and make them external. This puts them outside of the .wings file. And that way you can paint them and re-import the textures, etc.
Haha :) That's the whole reason for putting up the tutorial. I was intimidated and confused for the longest time about the UV mapper. Once I got a few basics down I was surprised at how easy it was.
You've done it again. Excellent set of tutorials. Your a natural teacher. Thanks tremendously as this was something that wasn't clicking for me at all and you have cleared it up in my mind.
Is there a way to combine seperate UV Maps?

I like the way you explain. Your way of talking and the voice poured the info into my head.
You don't sound like those boombastic fantastic plastic way of speaking. You're simple and explaining-oriented.
Keep up the good work.
