Anche se con ritardo dalla data della sua Morte, Di stefano, dopo Gigli è stato il più grande tenore che la lirica abbia mai avuto. Voce schietta limpida sincera, tenore pucciniano per eccellenza si esaltava in opere come Pescatore Di Perle, Boheme, Tosca Pagliacci e Cavalleria per citarne alcune. Credo, ma sono certo, che mai avremo un'altra voce come la sua.

I think this is from the 60's. DI Stefano sang "Cavalleria rusticana" with Stella and Dondi (whom I seem to recognize at the curtain call) in Rome in 1962 and in Palermo in 1963.

Se Giuseppe di Stefano non avesse scelleratamente optato per una tecnica maciullatoria della propria voce, data la sua IMMENSA caratura artistico-interpretativa sarebbe riuscito a contendere al divino Lauri volpi la qualifica del più grande cantore d'ogni tempo!

Che bella voce! DiStefano was a wonderful lyric tenor.He had a lovely timbre and expressed such feeling and emotion in his voice.Unfortunately,he took on roles later in his career that were too heavy for his lyric voice.But he was great in his early years.Addio Pippo,riposa in pace.
