Was there, was awesome, class acts, among my top 5! I think this was right after the break, the crowd went absolutely nuts, I remember walking back to my seat and it sounding like an earthquake, took me a second to figure out why. Sting was a bonus to an already great show. Thanks for the memories.
I'm outside of the Zappa school, but a fan of the police & admire Zappa. Never knew about this or the Swaggart incident. This is the best thing I've come across on YouTube. Awesome.
Because regardless of the major belief that you NEED a score in order to memorize a story of notes isn't necessarely true, you can memorize every song you know by heart and when you're as experience as Zappa and his bands were they can zone into any song immediately just by recognizing the first note.
Orchestra's don't do this because there can be up too 100's of people playing instruments kinda hard to keep long instrumentals synced for paid events lol.
@dakutiusmaximus I really think they could have learn it in less 30mn. They're all geniuses, and this tune isn't THAT hard to remember in comparison of Frank's ones.
Good musicians can play anything they want by ear, they probably listened to the song and figured it out together and then played it. Frank had the absolute best musicians of his time.
@dakutiusmaximus According to the diaries of the guitar player in this group, Mike Kenneally, Sting came on stage to perform Stolen Moments with the band but because the theme of the show was Swaggart "he came out and did a rap about Jimmy Swaggart, who had said a few years ago that the song “Murder By Numbers” was written and performed by the devil. And while we were playing “Stolen Moments” under him, Sting started singing “Murder By Numbers” and it was impressive."
This version's sound is awesome !!! Where did you get the material ? I've got it on both Broadway the hard way and some other live but none have this sound... I NEED that material :)
From cd "Broadway the hardway" used windows movie maker. Got lucky? I know it sounds kick ass on my system to! Then again I use 15in. JBL and a crown amp for my sound...................PEACE......DR.Z

awesome version...The arrangement is superb and Sting vocals are just perfect with it. More jazzier than the original. Two musical geniuses togheter. btw love scott thunes bass sound
as anyone else, FrannyRenee will find it on "Broadway The Hard Way" (1989). A fantasic album close to the end of a unique carreer and living - maybe published as commercial video, I don't know

If FZ was being honest and they just met that afternoon how the f*%K did the band learn the song in just a couple hours?
They are that good at sight reading and Sting produced the score?
