Actually, it is pop. Watch Anthology, and see how many times that the Beatles themselves call it pop. So it IS pop, and it stayed pop, until Rubber Soul, which was put under pyschedelic rock.

I use both ! A note played on an open string have a brighter tone and better sustain than a fretted note.
