This is my nan's song, the drug's did'nt help her to get better and she died on bonfire night. RIP my angel cause i know i'll see you're face again <3
there's something about this song that just touches me like no other song ever before or since...I think tears can flow when u listen to the words and are touched by the music....beautiful Urban Hymns a brilliant album...if u haven't listened to it then do now!!!
Dedicated 2 Liz, I wonder if u ever heard me sing this to u after we split? 18 years is a long time, I missed u and only in my life would something like this happen. Love Always.
well id just like to say awsome song and its true what he says in this song the drugs dont work,i lost the only person i could really talk to and not only that person a mother, she was sick for quiet awhile and doctors said the same old shit take these antibiotics and it will be ok,then out of nowhere bang CANCER everywhere and before you no it that person you could only talk to and to make is worse my mother had months to live.i feel for anyone who has cancer i truely do R.I.P MAM
Its nice to see that some people on here know what this song is truely about, other than the people that think its just about himself with with a drug habbit...people really need to do they're research!! Either way I still love this song!!
id like to dedicate this to any one whos lost a relative or any one els thats close ...trust us the drugs dont work lol. and no alo blac is a chump the answer isnt inside the bottle :)
Everyone sees songs differently and this one takes me to my grandpas last few days and I couldn't hold back my tears while I watched him suffer. They say drugs don't work and our society today is so quick to discriminate and judge someone with a drug problem but the only way I could face life at that particular time was drugs.Without pills,I wouldn't have made it past the 1st sentence in my funeral speech. Judge me how you want but I think sometimes we all deserve a pass to use and not be judged.
@rnrjunkie44 I hear you, and I'm sorry for your pain. I know the Verve as a whole were big drug users in their youths so I'm sure they'd be on your side there.
@rnrjunkie44 i am in no way gonna try and put you to rights, but i think you need a little help mate, grandparents are one thing, but losing parents is a totaly different story!! PLEASE seek some help!!!!
My middle-school computer teacher just died from cancer... He may have been a bit eccentric and it has been a few years since I've seen him, but he was still a pretty awesome guy. Thank you, Mr. Lampard. :)
the song is about his needing drugs, and how drugs prolonged his dad's life. Either way, EXCELLENT!, coz nobodys perfect and life can be a total bitch!
You know what's sadder than a drug addict? A drug addict who's so desperate for a song to relate to that he'll steal its meaning from the terminally ill. That's all the people here who are yelling at a guy for saying this song is about a loved one dying from cancer.
this song reminds me of my uncle who's suffering from cancer. although that's because he taught me how to play it on guitar.... it does fit well with anyone with a terminal illness though.
I've never seen people be so kind and sympathetic on a youtube video as they are on this one. It really shows what music can truly do to people, to unite complete strangers through their deepest emotions. Rest in peace Nana and Grandad xx
@ultimateinfinite no Wigan is Wigan and Manchester is Manchester, what your'e saying is the same as saying Bradford is Leeds or Wolverhampton is Birmingham, it simply isn't.
I was going to propose to my girlfriend, It was 2 years ago now. But I never had the chance to ask her, though I know she wanted it very much. The day before I was going to propose she died in a car accident. I don't want to bring any negative feelings into this clip, I just want to say please...... value your loved ones. Before you know it fate takes them away from you. I love <3 you Vanessa.
Hello mate, I am so sorry for your lose. We as human tend to value something only after it is gone. The wisest person is that who sees what others have lost ad learn to value it before it is gone. But not many actully do it. This is our nature and there is not much really we can do about it. Try to smile and find the joy in everyday, if not for you than for those who are not around anymore. May only you have only happiness and joy in your life.
@lumberjack988 You cant just go around dedicating other peoples work you have nothing to do with willy nilly... make your own shit and you can dedicate the fuck out of it
I'm not art/poetry-conscious. At least for me, however Mr. Ashcroft may be inspired, this beautiful song will always remind me of very awful stuff I did in the past and warns me that the horrible path is always just around the corner and I must be very careful not to be stupid again. So, thumbs up and thank you The Verve.
People, THIS SONG IS NOT ABOUT HIS FATHER. Stop spreading misinformation. It was written in 1994/95, at the time when his relationship with his girlfriend of 6 years ended. Almost all Verve songs from around that time and on A Norther Soul are about that experience. The original lyrics to this one were "the drugs don't work/they make ME worse." If you keep that in mind and listen to the rest of the lyrics, it makes perfect sense as a love song.
@demoncleaner45 exactly...."There's a new track I've just written [...] It goes 'the drugs don't work, they just make me worse, and I know I'll see your face again'. That's how I'm feeling at the moment. They make me worse, man. But I still take 'em. Out of boredom and frustration you turn to something else to escape."
@HigherPoker Unfortunetly gold and shit are standing very close to eachother, that may be the answer why so terrible bands can be famous and such superb bands like The Verve can be invisible to billions...it's hard to find the difference. And ofchorse the media, mainstream....fucking long and sad story....
@SemyonKirov You seriously need to broaden your horizons if you think hes the most gifted guitar player of 90's. He is good, and may be your favorite but not the most gifted by a long shot. I mean the song is just a simple ole' 5 chord song.

Hello Everybody!! =D
There’s nothing that I want more than come true my dream.
I sing, dancing and acting, every day I work so hard to get better day by day.
All what I do, I do it because I love it.
Music changed my life and I owe it.
I don’t know if when you’re listening to music you feel the same way I feel when I sing.
I just uploaded some covers on my channel
And I would like you all check out my covers.
Please support me, I'll be so grateful, THANK YOU.
