Everyone sees songs differently and this one takes me to my grandpas last few days and I couldn't hold back my tears while I watched him suffer.They say drugs don't work and our society today is so quick to discriminate and judge someone with a drug problem but the only way I could face life at that particular time was drugs.Without pills,I wouldn't have made it past the 1st sentence in my funeral speech. Judge me how you want but I think sometimes we all deserve a pass to use and not be judged.

People, THIS SONG IS NOT ABOUT HIS FATHER. Stop spreading misinformation. It was written in 1994/95, at the time when his relationship with his girlfriend of 6 years ended. Almost all Verve songs from around that time and on A Norther Soul are about that experience. The original lyrics to this one were "the drugs don't work/they make ME worse." If you keep that in mind and listen to the rest of the lyrics, it makes perfect sense as a love song.
