I was 23 when this came out and when I look back, a lot of the music back then was c..p. This song is timeless, it could have been released today for the first time and still hit No1. Not indifferent to the way the film star wars could be released today and be as current as ever.
Amazing to think the BBC actually got complaints over this cos Neneh performed the track a few months pregnant (shock, horror!) I think a few journalists might have moaned about it too. Shows how society has changed for the better, nowadays women appearing on telly whilst pregnant is no big deal at all. Minor landmark in a way this. And yeah, M.I.A. is a rip off of her, hadn't thought of that.
@kdchmln in the 80's they all had to lip sync cos it went out live and they didn't want any artists saying anything they werent suposed to during prime time on a governemnt funded tv chanel. Sometime they recorded them live beforehand and played the live track while the artists mimed.

This was a huge hit in 1989 but i could gueees it was releaased in late 88 ...no wonder it got so big..its one of the best of the 80s and it is the best dance-hit of the 80s
I was 14 when I first saw this actual live performance on TOTP and remember her dancing about heavily pregnant. She was probably one of the first performers to do that. Incredible to think that kid is now 21! Thanks for sharing! Great memories!
