  • so proud to own this record

  • Best.Ever. Version. of the Mass.

  • The B side of the 45rpm Sanctus single which I preferred to the better known A side. I thought it had been completely forgotten. Thank you!

  • En 1958, à l'expo de Bruxelles,j'ai vu et entendu les Troubadours du roi Baudouin, j'avais 11ans et j'en garde un merveilleux souvenir. Les entendre me ravi.Michèle C.

  • I also an Atheist and strangely enough this is also one of my all time favorite albums.

  • From the 1960's movie "IF"

  • This gives me the chills it's so beautiful and haunting.

  • I am an atheist and this is one of my favourite records ever. Beautiful.

  • The best. :)

  • Fantastic choir brillant idea to blend African and Latin church music together, one of my favorite African songs as well

  • listed in Tim Lawrence's book Love Saves The Day in one of David Mancuso's playlists at his famous nightclub ( The LOFT ) in NYC.......amazing album

  • I had not heard this since college many, many years ago, when I and other taped it off records then available. Thank you!

  • Congo!!

Praise these geniuses... They where (one of) the bands that Led Zeppelin inspired themselves from.

Don't believe me? Google told me so...

  • Music to cook missionaries by

  • I grew up listening to this every Easter morning. So beautiful. Thanks Dad for exposing me this!

  • All of us, with our voices, our sounds, our colors praysing the Great I AM.

    Praised be the Lord.

  • Kyrie elejson

  • pierwszy raz słucham. Całkiem dobre!!! kto szuka znajdzie

  • im checkin´this out also after readin´Mojo about Mr.Mojo

  • Herre förbarma dig, Kriste förbarma dig, Herre förbarma dig!

  • This is used as the finale in the 1966 MGM movie "The Singing Nun".

  • Jimmy Page recommends Missa Luba in the February 2010 issue of Mojo magazine. I grew up with the record in my house. My dad, who's a good 49 years older than me, tried to get me to listen when my age was in the single digits. I didn't get it then. Next time I visit, I'll tell him the guitarist of Led Zeppelin recommended I give Missa Luba another try and see what he says.

  • Yeah...that's why I'm checkin'this out....

althougfh I'm open to all kinds of music,I'm not yet convinced,

It says something about Page's open mind that he apreciated this in '65, still...

I think it was more because of it's curiosity value,as he more or less admitted.

  • I heard this back in '65 and like it even more. It is a great example of liturgical blending. While retaining the Roman rite it uses local expression techniques to bring meaning to the mass. Currently, however, the local language is encouraged.

  • The text on the LP, as shown in this video, says these Congolese compositions are devoid of Western influence. Yeah, except they're in Latin and Greek and are parts of the Catholic Mass. Plus, the Kyrie is in 4/4 time and a major scale. Other than all of those major factors, and probably others, it's devoid of Western influence.

  • Gloire à Dieu, merci pour cette chanson, elle m'a réchauffé le cœur.

  • Thanks again malgray2, now I just need to try and find it and then pluck up the courage to watch it again-- last time was very emotional, used lots of kleenex!

  • fantastic exciting

  • Thank you malgray2-- yes I remember it in "If'" wow-- long time ago, good movie though. Anyone know who made the movie "Kes"?

  • Ken Loach

  • STILL gives me chills listening to this record. My father played it for me when I was younger.

  • This is not a European masss it is African, but not sure which african country it is.

  • Belgian Congo. Now Democratic Republic of Congo.

This music was used in the Lindsay Andersen film "If".

  • I loved this Album when when I was when I was 18 yrs of age & now I am 59 yrs of age & I love it just as much as then. Can anyone give me an idea where I maybe able to buy the 1965 original CD version

  • Go to Amazon (on the web), search Missa Luba - it's still in print on CD, the original version recorded in 1958 and released in the US in 1965, although Wikipedia mentioned they may have left off some tracks from the original LP, on the CD release.

  • Of course, the CD was not in print when this song was posted to YouTube, so the original poster is correct, it wasn't availble on CD (atleast in USA), until 2008.

  • This has got to be one of the best albums ever made. Still gives me goosebumps.

  • Beautiful music. This is my favourite off the album. I bought Missa Luba on vinyl for one Euro in a charity shop, and I'll never sell it.

  • Eu tive este vinil até 1974, depois foi-se...

Grande alegria encontrar esta música de novo...Africa está aqui!

Thank you for posting this wonderfull album.

  • amazing! thank you for posting it.

  • The most amazing Mass ever. I love all the European Mass settings as well (of course), but this one has something different to it. A sense of humanity, perhaps? While the European settings often make one think of a choir of angels, this one makes me think of the whole of mankind and how we can and should praise and bless God with everything we've got.

    Soli Deo Gloria

  • So beautiful! Thanks for posting it on you tube!

  • I used to play this album every Sunday morning on our hi-fi when I lived in Manhattan in the early mid-60s, and still

have it in storage although I gave my turntable away a few

years ago. I mentioned it to a friend who lived in MN and she

said that she used to listen to that lp too. The innocence of the voices still make me tear-up. o listen to Missa Luba is to be transported.... and to believe all's right in the world. Thanks 4 putting it on Youtube. Glad to hear there's a cd now.

  • The innocence is so notable, but the power of the singers is electrifying, especially the lead singer. So nice to hear this again!

  • My dad God rest his soul loved this and the purity of the music....trult amazing...thank you

  • I have the original LP. Time after time I listen to this version of Kyrie, and the versions of hundreds of choir groups around the world and none match this version. Absolutely beautiful.

  • This LP has been reissued on CD very recently - and it's a cheap CD as well... and still on the Philips label...

  • I have always loved this album even now that I am an atheist. It's so pure. The Congo has such a sad history

  • If I recall correctly, this was played at the end of the movie, "The Singing Nun." I also once heard it at an opening exhibit of African art at a museum. This, as part of the Missa Luba, is, in my opinion, enculturation at its best--blending the Roman liturgy with African music.

Thanks for putting this on YouTube :D

  • i like it

  • tenho o vinil até hoje!!! era da minha mãe. quando eu quero "falar com Deus", ponho no toca-discos(!) e danço!!!

  • So pure and true. Innocent voices.

  • The sounds of my childhood replayed - thank you!

  • Thank you for posting this. I have become enamored by the missa lubba and I was thrilled when it was in the movie "If..."

  • i heard this sog once during a dance performance and i loved it ever since

  • My 9th grade English teacher played this for us in class and I was so moved I had to buy the album. It has since been lost and I couldn't remember the name of it. Thanx you so much. I am 61 yrs old and have carried this song in my heart.

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH! i used to listen to Missa Luba when i was 15 and was never able to find the album again! this is it...the original, it's beautiful, thank you!

  • been looking for this since i first heard it in 1969. thanks for posting ...

  • Been looking for this everywhere!!!

  • Glorious!!! Les Troubadour du Roi Baudoin this song was featured in Maclom McDowell 1960 film "IF" a must see

  • It's just glorious

  • I have looked high and low for this. THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART. This is heavenly music and no attempt to reproduce it has come close to this original.

  • I agree rosestephenc. . .We sang this hauntingly beautiful song in High School chorus and it's melody and words have followed me over 40 years throughout my life. It's a real experience to hear the original again.

  • O calor africano, o calor do ritmo! A voz de Deus UNIVERSAL!
