"Je n'aurai pas le temps" (c. 1962) music and lyrics by Pierre Leroyer under the pseudonym "Pierre Delanoë" (1918-2006) for Michel Fugain (1942-) translated by Jack Fishman (1920-1997) as "If I Only Had Time".
"If I Only Had Time". It's the story of our lives but it doesn't have to be. You have to make time. Beg, borrow or steal time but don't let it slip by and forget those who mean a lot to you because one day it will be to late.
My daddy loved this - he passed in 1982 and still i never tire of listening to this beautiful song ! Respect for posting - live long and prosper ! ! !
This song really touched my heart after all we are all only human with a short life. Don't waste our time, spend best quality time with all love ones!
Pierre Delanoe, a French songwriter/lyricist, was the writer of "Je n'aurai pas le temps" also known as "If I Only Had Tme." The source for this information is the Wiki article on songwriter Pierre Delanoe which indicates the song was written for Michel Fugain. No date of publication is given. This seems to be confirmed by the BMI database when searching for Pierre Delanoe. The song dates from at least 1962 because it was released in English by early Rock and Roll star Gene Pitney.
My mother used to listen to his songs all the time. Looking back we disliked most of her music and thought it was old fashion, now I find myself looking up some of her old songs on youtube and listening to it and god forbid favouriting it. Must be getting old!
My brother used to play this record a lot as I grew up. I had the privelege hearing John live in New Plymouth in 1986 and to meet him after the show was a highlight too.
I had just moved to Hawaii in the early 70's when one night for a moment, I heard John Rowles singing from an open air lounge of a hotel by the ocean. I was captivated. Now for the second time I found him here by accident. This is why I love YouTube. I never heard many of his songs before and this is beautiful. Mahalo nui loa, Diane :o)
Pretty good. Wouldn't it be cool to praise the good stuff and say nothing about the "bad stuff," and make no mistake there is a TON of bad stuff on YouTube and the vast majority isn't just the bad music.
Go through all the Male singers /songs there have ever been. Is there really anything better than this, for Performance,Words, Meaning and still a Top Class entertainer.Sure many other Artistes have had more hits but do any beat this ? I think not.
I was so happy to again hear John sing this song! So good to catch up with him again after so many years have past when I knew him and his manager when we all lived in Earls Court, London/ Gorgeous voice! Great to catch up with you again, John!! Often thought of you and this song over the years. Also, Hush Not a Word to Mary. I lived on Trebovir Road. Not sure which name you knew me under at that time as I changed my name while I was living in Earls Court. Keep up the good works!

People just don't realise how short a time we got, spend our time waiting for the right time and then all of a sudden there;s no time left, and then spend our life's regreting spending so long waiting

It is indeed a great song and one which isn't covered enough in my opinion. But if you ever get a chance to listen to Joe Longthorne's version then please do.

If I only had time, only time.
So much to do, if I only had time,
If I only had ti-ime.
