so holy shit. this song is just beautiful, and that you've graced it with your beautiful voice is just amazing. you are amazing. this is better than the original. just perfect. thank you so much for this.
WOW this is incredible!! i thought it would just be another slightly iffy cover cos of the lighting, but i heard your beautiful voice and guitar and i was like why hasn't this got more views!!!! I have just discovered the antlers and i LOVE them but i prefer your version! BEAUTIFUL!
aww yea. I did one also today, but your version almost makes me want to remove it. this is sheer beauty. still i'd be honored if you'd check out my rendition.
@nataliewheeleryo Actually this song and in fact whole album is about the guy's girlfriend getting cancer of the bone and their struggle to uphold the relationship as she fights for her life. The 'bear' he refers to is a metaphor for the cancer.
@fghtffyrdmns5iana why would you make caves or find food for cancer to eat? why would cancer be loud or have vocal chords? it's kind of obvious that it's an analogy for abortion.
@ratlover35 Kettering is a hospice (hence the album name) for terminal patients. Pregnancy isn't terminal. In regards to the lyrics it's all metaphorical, the cancer being 'loud' is how the toll of the illness is not ignorable. The relationship needs 'caves' & 'food' for progression but they're 'terrified of one another' because of how they're acting whilst she's ill. Learn to google.
@fghtffyrdmns5iana it's about abortion. you don't call cancer a "he" even when being metaphorical. you're not supposed to drink alcohol when you're pregnant. there's no reason to be secretive about making appts for a terminal illness or saying "no one has to know!" you have CANCER. it won't be going away after one appt, ppl will find out. by the way, this song isn't kettering, therefore your reasoning is invalid as for saying they're making an appt in a hospice.
@fghtffyrdmns5iana the album is about a man who works at kettering meeting a patient and falling in love. they marry, experience an abusive relationship until she dies and she haunts him even after she's dead (epilogue). during the course of their marriage, or even before, she got pregnant and they realized they weren't as in love as they thought and get an abortion. that's why they're bigger strangers than ever afterwards.
@fghtffyrdmns5iana the chorus "we're too old, we're not old at all" is saying that they're old enough to care for a baby and have one, but so young really, they have their entire lives ahead of them.
Best cover of this I've heard by far - I've taken to coverng Kettering, Wake, and Epilogue on piano even though I usually play guitar - something about that album just begs to be played on a piano. Anyway, excellent excellent cover and you killed the vocal. I'm seeing them in April in Madison with Phantogram opening. So excited.
wow. I have not been able to stop singing this song for a week. I was thinking of covering this myself, and came to see what else was here. I didn't think anybody would do The Antlers any justice, but I was wrong. Your voice is amazing!
if you haven't been listening to Bon Iver and The XX, start now. If Bon Iver tickles your fancy grab Volcano Choir. If you've got time, look up Mostly Bears, Michael Trent, The Films, and Chris Garneau. Even if you don't, keep up the music. you're great at it
@gorinator Thank you so much!! And thanks for the suggestions I really appreciate it. You should definitely do a cover of this song its so beautiful and there's barely any out there.
yeah, the issue is my lack of camera or microphone. I might steal my brother's lappy while he's home and see what i can do. I hope you like the music, and i can suggest others if you'd like, and I'm open to suggestions myself. are you really 16? I am (too?) but i think this profile says I'm twenty something
I love your taste in music! I have never heard of this band either but among my similar interests are Frightened Rabbit, Ra Ra Riot and Eisley. They arent *that* similar, mewithoutyou is probably the closest to this band, but those are all bands that kinda sorta are close to the same genre?
@nataliewheeleryo Say Anything has been one of my favorite bands for a while now but Nashville never gets any good shows unfortunately. Heard of Nightmare of You?
Best antlers cover I've heard.
