  • R.I.P race In peace

  • @TheDorapapi321 shameful comment and will be removed.

  • R.I.P.

  • Meira can't drive that's why dan is dead

  • What a lad!

  • It's so weird watching him knowing that he is no longer with us. I'm not a huge racing fan at all but I have to give credit to any man that won the Indy 500 twice. Rest in peace Dan Wheldon & God Bless.

  • I wish you a great past life, R.I.P. Dan. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family

  • @JakeTV370 take some Valium you complete and utter freak

  • 6:18, letterman says you don't mant them climbing up over the wheels, unfortunate things happen, its weird that he says that to dan wheldon.....

    r.i.p. dan

  • RIP Dan :-(

  • Any person who suggests IndyCar is a "redneck sport" and/or the drivers are "not athletes" is woefully uninformed. Everytime I hear this....everytime....it is from am individual unversed in the sport and terribly ignorant. To that end, it is easy to dismiss them. The Indianapolis 500 and the sport of IndyCar racing, auto racing around the world outside of NASCAR, is a very sophisticated endeavor and the professionals who compete, talented athletes in every way. Wheldon was such a person.

  • indy car is not a redneck sport NASCAR is oh and by the way dan wheldons scottish not american and also NASCAR SUCKS stupid rednecks

  • @haloman117100 english actually

  • Considering Letterman was co-owner of Rahal-Letterman Racing!

  • 6:16, so tragic :'(. R.I.P. Dan.

  • 6:16...they had no idea how true those words were :(

  • RIP dan, you did Britain proud.

  • At least he got a few epic wins before he died. Lived fast and died young.

  • crazy he talks about wheels climbing over each other and dan says he wants no part of that RIP!

  • 6:20 Very very eerie.

  • @SGSUPERMAN105 just thought the same :(

  • Oh god this is so awful. This guy doesn't deserve to die like that. Fuck off with these 1.5 mile tracks, Make them bigger for the fast cars.

  • R.I.P Mate

  • I was so sad to hear you died Dan Wheldon, may god bless you and rest in peace - a true champion

  • R.I.P :/ always remember you

  • Jeeze, even his face looks aerodynamic.

  • Damn man, he seems like a really nice guy. Didn't know if 4 months he would be dead. Very eerie how he mentioned tires and did not want to be in the air.

  • @SteveWard3928 I agree, Wheldon was such a likable fellow. I have just felt awful for his wife and 2 little boys. I mean, the youngest is just a baby, born in March, I think. It's just the saddest thing ever.

  • I started to cry once I heard what Dan & Dave were talking about after 6:00 about the rear tires, because that's exactly what launched him into the air & killed him. RIP Dan. :(

  • saw this on cnn, didnt know about him but breaks my heart...rest in peace dan.

  • I'm british and he sounds to have a slight aussie twang

  • @bowler8 nope its all english, its a middle class south east accent

you find its the australians that have an english twang considering they came form us

  • rip

  • he died on octoper 16 11

  • 1:27 i wish it really wast the only race he ran

  • He shoulda stayed unemployed, never really got to enjoy that 2.6 mil..

  • "That's the best unemployment check I've ever seen" Dan Wheldon, after Winning Indy the 2nd time.

    1978-2011 R.I.P

  • 6:20

  • I wanted to see this guy race with the big boys in F1 and have a 4th British driver in F1 and we will never see it now.... major sadness!

  • nice person really....he lost his british accent...almost...........RIP

  • RIP Dan... will be sorely missed...

  • R.i.p. dan

  • RIP.... Great Champion

  • 6:19

  • @Bienville 25

    You sir are a &@nt

    Go play in traffic

  • RIP Dan Wheldon...

  • @Bienville25

indycar is not a red neck sport.

you are getting confused by nascar which appeals to southern americans for the most part.

Indycar has a different demographic due to it including road races and 75% of the field being from outside of the US.

Its not a redneck sport, never has been and never will be.

    Borrow a clue

  • @InsideLine2011 indycar is awsome. but i liked the champcars better

  • @InsideLine2011 NASCAR isn't a redneck sport either, just ignorant people think it is.

  • @jgrlogano well nascar started by rednecks in the south. duh.

  • @EDJR0 Yeah but it's come a long way, I'll admit it used to be, but it's not anymore.

  • @InsideLine2011 yeah, plus the fact that nascar roots are laden in moonshine runners' cars, modified to outrun the law....lol. pretty cool, though.

  • @InsideLine2011

obviously you need a clue cause indycar does not run any road races. also nascar appeals to all people not just rednecks.

  • @infamousjdmr half of the indycar season is road courses. you get the god damn clue, fucktard. also, NASCAR is more dominant in the South. so think before you type.

  • @infamousjdmr

lol what ? so the 11 races i watched on road courses this year were a figment of my imagination ?

they run more road races than they do ovals. go and check the schedule on the official indycar site

  • @InsideLine2011 I have been to Nascar races in Charlotte, and to a F1 in Indiana . The spectators are totally different. Big fat, beer belching, fool acting red necks in Charlotte! In the F1 race in Indy, the spectators were very dapper, reserved, quiet, polite, seemingly educated. Yes, there was beer (Fosters), but everyone knew how to handle it!! Anyhow, Nascar is deffinately a red neck sport for sure!

  • @InsideLine2011 Appeals to Southern Americans? You're a fucking dumbass. I'm from New York and I watch NASCAR and I most of the time I ignore clueless douchebags that only follow NASCAR stereotypes. Approximately 80% of the current NASCAR drivers were born outside of the southern states (TX, MS, AL, GA, SC, NC, VA, WV, KY, OK, AR, LA, TN). Oh, and if you reply back saying, 'DERP WELL I SAID FOR THE MOST PART HERP DERP.', well, I don't care, you need to stop following stereotypes, bitch.

  • @JakeTV370 jesus buddy...relax

  • @JakeTV370

I suggest you ake some valium you absolute freak

ps: lol at your youtube channel, you look like the ultimate 13 year old poin dexter, quit trying to act like the big man on youtube.

  • @InsideLine2011 You're an incompetent asshole. Nice job of making your account unavailable.

  • When Dave mentioned that when wheels make contact "bad things happen" , the pause in Dan's voice when he said "Yeah... I don't want any part of that"... I literally doubled over for a second. Poor poor man. You rest with the angels now, Mr. Wheldon.

  • @lazykunoichi1 So sad...freaking foreshadowing..

  • R.I.P DANNY BOY

  • RIP fella

  • RIP hero

  • 06:19 :/ :/. No comment..

    RIP Dan....

  • He said : " Indianapolis 500 without a doubt the biggest sporting event in the world." LOL my ass

  • @lesrambles1 In a matter of context, the Indy 500 is the biggest single-day sporting event on earth. Largest attendance, prize-money etc...

  • @boneman2 its a really shit sport though :) its nowhere near the biggest sporting event on the planet

  • @boneman2 One of the biggest, dont forget about the Great American Race which is the Daytona 500. Not trying to start anything just to let u know

  • @boneman2 Bigger than the Superbowl? Bigger than the Champions League final?

  • @largesatsuma yes . . . over 300,000 people in attendance

  • @ChesterDoraemon No, he wasn't raising you he was raising two sweet little boys! Once again, you are confused you vile clown!

  • His two little boys are now fatherless--- that's the worst part of this tragedy.

  • @bebopdelux10 I know I was just about to say the same thing....

My dad watches the races all the time and I always paid attention to you. You were amazing and seemed like such a nice guy. Sometimes things like this happen to great people. Forever in our hearts...

  • RIP Dan, I'm happy you more then likely felt no pain and it was quick. You were and always will be one of the best and always will be the definition of a champion!

  • its eerie how there talking about the new safety features of the new cars protecting wheel contact on the rear of the wheels

  • wow, the line: "I want no part of that." I felt pain go straight through me.

  • RIP Dan, we will always remember you.

  • Wow he seemed nice. So sad.

  • @mondiablue yeah he was probably THE nicest driver in the garage R.I.P dan

  • He was such a cute guy.

  • @ImpressivePilot your dad is a arrogant gaylord with a husband and crossed legs

  • He sounds like D-Becks.

  • Dan Wheldon should have been a model or an actor he had great hair, teeth and skin. damn good looking guy! like if you agree.

  • RIP

  • Rest in peace.

  • He just died :(

  • a week ago, it was hard to find a person who knew the name Dan Wheldon.

Now, it's hard to find someone who DOESN'T know the name Dan Wheldon

  • rip dan wheldon, é nóis!

  • Fuckin stupid white men

  • @ImpressivePilot You're the arrogant gaylord!

  • Dan will be missed forever....

  • typically American shit, crap blah blah blah show.....

  • @activeworldholidays american shit. dude this sport is loved all over the world.

  • and he didn't even live out the year...a dangerous business this racing business. :(

  • letterman was just being cynical as always. Wheldon's loss was a tradgedy, I can assure you dave didnt see it coming, so.. um.. hop off his cock

  • R.I.P DAN WHELDON:(

  • Dan était un grand pilote.

  • Dan died doing what he loved. It's a dangerous sport but any motorsports enthusiast will agree that the driver's understand and accept the risk every time they strap-in. Still a horrific and tragic loss. RIP.

  • @ImpressivePilot u sir r going to hell hahaha

  • Too ironic.

  • letterman does get annoying with the whole unemployment thing. really distracts from the interview and excitement of his win at indy

  • Heartbreaking...

  • @ImpressivePilot You're an incredible ass.

  • HAHAHAHAHA LETTERMAN IS HILARIOUSLY FUNNY

  • r.i.p dan we love u!

  • Comment removed

  • He died living life to the max, I feel like I aint even living life...RIP bigman

  • @Murphy252000 I know how you feel.

  • Rip very sad news

  • Quite ironic at 6:05........RIP Dan Wheldon

  • Full time in 2012... it hurts listening to that bit :'(

  • R.I.P DAN.

  • RIP

  • I am not a fan of car racing by any means therefore have never heard of Mr. Wheldon until news reported this tragedy. My heart goes out to his family and loved ones

  • The "unemployed champion." What a classic underdog story. Your story will inspire future racers forever.

  • 6:19 dave syas that the 2012 car has new rear wheel protection so "nasty things dont happen"

if only they had these on sunday he would still be with us

  • This is very sad that this young charming man is now deceased. Yes, he died doing what he loved, but I think most of them think it wont be them or they wont die in this particular race. This was a young man with a family. It is awful that he leaves behind two young children and a widow. Rest in peace Dan Wheldon... Prayers to his family during this difficult time... Sad stuff...

  • The only thing i think is i wish he had stuck to the whole "not another race till 2012." RIP man you'll be missed through the races and life <3

  • the irony here is the new car dan tested would have saved him. I hope he is indy cars dale earnhardt - the last one to die for a long long time..

  • Why are people trying to compare Indy Car Racing to F1? They're two completely different sports & cars!? It's like comparing an Ostrich with a Humming Bird... One is light a nimble, the other is heavy and fast. Rest in peace Dan

  • @flaviothebrazilian thats a homophobic statement at worst

  • Top Shelf classy guy all the way around. Was sitting on the straightaway at Indy this year when he won his 2nd. He lived a great life, and to the haters, you can go back now to your poor, pathetic, miserable, wasted lives...

  • @knowspin I was at Indy too, on the straightaway. I became a Dan Wheldon fan after seeing his emotion after winning this year and was looking forward to cheering for him at the 500 in 2012. I was impressed by his class during June-Oct, when he was forced to sit out of most of the rest of the season. Instead of whining, he was grateful. RIP Dan.

  • I've never heard or seen this guy until now, but to see him step out and onto the couch, i felt an incredible burst of emotion go through me to know that man is no longer living, leaving behind a wife and two small children. R.I.P. ='[

  • I never knew anything about him before this terrible crash but he seemed soo nice and likeable. Sends a chill down my spine when he says regarding getting launched into the air 'I don't want any part of that' truly awful. I'm sorry I was so ignorant to his talent and wonderful personality.

  • They do this sport and te developments are in the future used in commercial cars. So....please stop saying that this is not important. And yes....lots of people die everyday, but most of them are just average humans.

  • I hope you negative people believe in karma.. Hope your car doesnt end up in a guardrail in a firey crash!! Dumbass

  • R I P. A True Racer...

  • @MrThomStar piss off retard. hope you drop dead soon. the world will be a better place.

  • Life is scary, one day you are talking to David Letterman, other day you are dead as dead...

  • looks like a bit like Christian Bale, or more speciifically Patrick Bateman

    RIP man

  • R.i.p

  • What a professional, what a great smile and a sense of humor. Our prayers go out to Susie, his sons and his family. Godspeed, Dan Wheldon.

  • Awww poignant watching this. RIP beautiful man :(

  • What a nice person such a sad thing what's happened R.I.P mate :o(

  • Grande Dan, grande pilota! RIP great man

  • "You dont want the wheels climbing up over eachother because thats when unpleasant things happen." Dan: "Exactly and I dont want any part of that."

    Rip man

  • @Psylonz Exactly, thats precisely the sentence that got my attention too ... :(

  • So sad how he died.

RIP to him and I'll watch this later today I have to go to damn sleep! :(

  • so he didn't actually have a drive this season? was he just filling in for the vegas race?

  • Rest In Peace Dan

  • RIP Dan Wheldon, if only he hadn't taken the $5m challenge he maybe would've been at the front & still be here.

  • RIP Dan Wheldon

  • On the day before the crash he posted in a blog on USA Today, that the race "would be a pack race, and in a race like that you never know how that's gonna turn out." In light of today's terrible accident, those words have a tragic irony to them, and almost sound in some sense prophetic. RIP Dan, you shall be missed

  • Wow.. this sad to see this interview especially the part about safety... RIP Dan Wheldon

  • @sttie402 i know, it sends a chill down my spine when he mentions he wants no part of a crash

  • I am sorry for Dan but the fault comes from safety rules, disability of engineers and organisers to prevent such things to happen. A F1 car driving double speed of Dan's car would incure nothing, to pilot's cabin. You are so far from F1. The safety there seems like racing with kit cars at 200km/h

  • @Remines1983 F1 cars don't travel at twice the speed that wheldon was traveling at. if an F1 car did manage to get up to double the speed that wheldon was going before it hit a wall, there would be nothing left of it.

he wasn't traveling at 200kmh, he was traveling at nearly 225mph, going at that speed alone, let alone twice the speed would have a massive effect on the structural integrity of the car if it hit a wall.

  • @SurebrecUK maybe not twice the speed, but you can ask Ayrton Senna's family whats left of you if you hit a wall frontal at top speed with an f1 car

  • @spacegarnaal senna didn't hit the wall front on, he hit at an angle that was much less than head on, and he wasn't going top speed, he was still accelerating as he entered tamburello at which point it is believed he tried to apply the brakes. also, the fatality was caused by a freak event involving the front suspension. drivers have crashed at similar speeds and angles in the past and survived.

indycars are also a lot heavier than F1 cars, so they are going to hit harder at comparable speeds

  • @SurebrecUK read it over, indeed in an angle and not on top speed,

but wasnt it a faulty steering column that caused it? the front right suspension was forced back into the car

hitting him in the head causing severe head trauma,

but this isnt about senna, its about wheldon sorry for even mentioning it

  • @spacegarnaal senna was the last in F1. You know any other accident after him?

  • @SurebrecUK Thanks for details. you are really smart but wasn't this the goal of my comment.

  • drive on, you're not alone...

  • 6:13 ..... :(

  • R.I.P.

  • List to what he said 6:20 into the interview. It's kinda of strange because that what took his life.

  • RIP

  • That video just made everything worse

  • Feels insanely strange to be watching this video. For a while I forgot that he had passed away, and it wasn't until the video was over when it hit me. It's awful, so tragic, so sad. I've never been huge into Indy car racing, and never got too familiar with the drivers, but Mr. Wheldon's passing hits just as hard as when Colin McRae died, or DE's crash 10 years ago. Even when the death is confirmed, there is still that part which hopes unrealistically that the person will turn out to be all right
